Costa Rica Surf Report
10-7-98

SURF REPORT
Brought to you by Greg Gordon and local surfshops throughout Costa Rica.

TIDES
Low tide for today - 10:18; High tide - 4:34
DOMINICAL
Last weekend had the best surf in two months, with double overhead board breakers at both tides. This weekend should be smaller, with glassy conditions early in the morning, and waves head high or bigger on sets.
PLAYA JACO
Jadir Hurpando at Hotel Copacabana (#643-3131) reported on Wednesday waves 2-3 feet and glassy in the afternoon. This was a major drop from this weekend.
NICOYA PENINSULA
Alberto Clarkson at the Iguana Grill in Tamarindo (#653-0148) reported waves 2-3 in front. He surfed big Langosta over the weekend with 3 meter sets. He expects Witches' Rock to be bigger as the swell has moved north.
MANUEL ANTONIO / QUEPOS
Cecilia Lutz at Hotel Karahe (#777-0170) emailed this message: Nice and sunny mornings, heavy showers late in the afternoon. Ocean nice and calm in the mornings, in the afternoon choppy seas. Waves small to moderate. We expect this type of weather all through the month of October.
CARIBBEAN
Quoted from Mel Baker at ATEC in Limon:
"At Salsa Brava they report decent waves at about 3.5 ft. At Beach Break about 4'. There could be a tendency to level off again so it may or may not maintain. My observation: it looks pretty choppy. The afternoons usually have a lot of wind. At this time there are occasional showers often squall-like. The hurricane (Georges) did not contribute greatly to any change in the waves The weather for carnival in Limon will probably be alternate sun and rain as it does in other years. The tides hardly vary on the atlantic side, a foot or so difference between low and high."

MAREAS
Marea baja for today - 10:18; Marea Alta - 4:34
DOMINICAL
PLAYA JACO
Jadir Hurpando a Hotel Copacabana (#643-3131)
Olas pequenas a moderadas.
CARIBBEAN
Cito a Mel Baker a ATEC in Limon: "A Salsa Brava dieron cuenta de olas buenas a sobre 3,5 pies. A la playa sobre 4 pies. Posible las olas mantendran. Mi observacion: las olas aparecen agitadas. Muchas tardes tienen vientos fuertes.
