NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The North swell that pounded California Wednesday takes
its sweet time getting to Guanacaste, with the first pulses felt on
Monday afternoon with some overhead sets. Then on Tuesday a
localized NE swell fills in with consistent head high waves, but
only lasts a day. By Thursday morning, the only overhead waves are
sets coming about every hour. Then on Friday afternoon, the NE swell
picks up to head high, and overhead for the weekend. Don't try to
surf south facing beaches.

Caribbean - Waves are chest high for the first night of Hanukah, and
stay that size on Monday due to a NNE swell pushing down from the
Yucatan. Waves drop by Tuesday afternoon to waist to chest and won't
get any bigger through Thursday. Friday and Saturday look to be more
waist high surf with few sets.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 12/24)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

As this small swell changed directions this week, it became more
difficult and closed out. The off shores have been consistent and
holding most of the day.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The size won't matter much out
front until the angle changes a little and it starts to "hook".
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The sand in the Tamarindo
Estero mouth is pulling some shape out of this swell and is about
the same size as here. Just drive a few minutes down the service
road to Villa Baula and you're there.

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

This week we got a Christmas present from God--a nice westerly swell
which has waves rolling all over the place. The left in front of the
Diria this morning reminded me of my recent visit to Pavones; about
chest high and rolling forever. Pico Grande was throwing barrelles
all over the place, sometimes overhead. Off shore, of course.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The high tide is in the morning
and we've got waves, so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Nuevo!
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
to surf right now. That doesn't happen every day in Tamarindo, so
get out there and enjoy it!

** From John Lyman Photography, covering from Ollies to Ostianal -

T'was the day before Christmas and all along the shore, the ocean
was sleeping, you could almost hear it snore. The dudes were all
bumming and the chicks would all giggle, there aren't any waves, not
even a ripple.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The prognosticators say good
northwest on Monday, if you're lucky enough to be at Avellanas, that
will be your fun day.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The tide will be coming up
all morning all week, that's when the northwest will be hitting it's
peak, try the Avellanas rivermouth or maybe Little 8, drive in
through Pinilla, tell them you know Chris Kringle at the gate.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: So as I tell
you about calendars at the
http://tamarindobeach.net/photos_lyman/index.html web site, I say
cowabunga to all and to all a good night.

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Playa Nosara -

Feliz Navidad from Playa Guiones (Nosara)! Surf is small here, but a
lot of fun with morning, offshore winds and chest/head-high set
waves. It's getting a little more crowded with holiday 'turistas'
but there's plenty of waves for everyone - 'disfrute'! Propero Año
Nuevo, Coconut Harry, www.coconutharrys.com

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Sunday's chest to head high surf dioesn't stick around
long, dropping to chest high at best on Monday and down to waist to
chest by Tuesday evening. The rest of the week looks grim, waist
high at most spots, with the peak peaks and north Guanacaste coast
getting it a foot bigger. No relief until Christmas eve, straight
from the north pole, a NW swell pushing in chest to head high surf
up in the Nicoya Sunday morning and filling in farther south by the
afternoon. That swell picks up a foot on Monday, but dies off next
Tuesday down to chest high.

Caribbean - Overhead with a few foot overhead sets remain for
Sunday, with the rest of the week looking to drop a bit each day.
Monday down to head high with still a few bigger sets coming in.
Tuesday, those sets disappear, and by Wednesday down to chest high,
but still a lot of fun from the East swell sticking around in the
Caribbean. As another NE'er goes off the U.S. coast, surf will
continue to fill in for the weekend.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 12/10)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

If you wait long enough, a perfect waist high set wave comes through
to break the monotony of the knee high snappers. Crystal clear water
and no crowds to match the small surf.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Perfect tides and conditions if
the swell
decides to spike a little bit. Playa Grande sticks out in the ocean
further than any other Costa Rican surf spot, so don't be surprised
if we suck in a little extra swell and it picks up here for an hour
or two.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: There's no real focus, so
bring the kids
and beginners and pick a spot.

** From Joe's blog at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

We should get some waves by tomorrow, the wind is perfect offshore.
Supposedly the surf school trip is getting great waves right now,
and the surf tour this morning went to Nosara and had really nice
waves as well. Here in Tamarindo its looking really nice, just
really small. I haven't surfed much with my foot being injured, but
I think I'm ready to give it a go again. I think I may be a bit
lazy, as even from the skybox I can see waves off towards Playa
Grande. Besides that, things in town are pretty mellow. The true
high season looks to kick off in a week or two, and when that
happens there will be tons of people here up into September once
again. Holly and I are stoked to be back and hanging out with our
family and friends once again.

** From John Lyman Photography, covering from Ollies to Ostianal -

Flat Flat Flat!
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It's going to pick up. It can't
get any smaller.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Break out the snorkel,
skimboard or vollyball net.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: While it's
flat, flat, flat you should do your Christmas shopping. A great gift
is The 2006 Surfing Costa Rica Photo Calendars. Also available are
the Waves Of Costa Rica and The Sunsets Of Costa Rica. 13 months of
the best of the Costa Rica surfing experience. To check them out and
order yours before Christmas, go to
http://tamarindobeach.net/photos_lyman/index.html

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Playa Nosara -

Well, not much to report in the way of surf - kinda small -
occasional bigger sets come through. Low tides are pretty much
worthless. Mid mornings are best - wind has been offshore most of
the day.

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -

No screaming waves this week. Sad to say there's a pool outside.
during mid tides some white water rolls in, good for beginners and
boogie boarders.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The weather is beautiful and it's
a great time to visit the calm samara beach. Hopefully the full moon
will bring some waves to surf. In the mornings there are great off
shore winds, not much to surf.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Come surfing with us in front
of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico. No crowds, less shore break.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: With no swell
it's a great time to support our local turtle sanctuary and great to
volunteer at the after school program through Intercultura language
school. For furthur information on either contact Jesse's 656-0055.
Bring your Pura Vida!

** From Andrea at WAVESCR.com Surf Camp in Playa Hermosa -

Small, I have been watching Hermosa all week and doesnt look like it
want´s to pick up. But can definitely say : Summer is here!
Beautiful blue waters and cool offshore winds during the morning
sessions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Not too much waves...head a

Boy O BOY ! Its small after one of the best seasons or almost all
year in a long time its gone flat! Tiny clean conditions are here !
Fun longboard waves but even better on true LOG , I have been out on
a new 10'2" SOUTHPOINT and grabbing all the waist high sets that
roll thru , the worst part about this lack of swell is its not much
better anywhere else ! News is we have plenty of nice new boards in
stock and if you want a nice board you bettewr grab one NOW , after
over 50 years of making the best high quality surfboard blanks in
the world GRUBBY CLARK is done , closed doors out of business ,
extinct etc. No more new stock with these blanks and the big guys
are freakin ! Little board manufacturers are closing all over the
U.S. for lack of materials and those that have materials are going
to be the lucky ones , my sources say we are on hold for new product
until at least March or April as we start getting blanks out of
Australia [next best blank manufacturer ] . Hows that for a bummer !
Anyways if you have been dreaming of a new Channel Islands , Erie or
Matt Kechele surfboard grab one now because what is here is from the
industries best raw materials and will never be again ! I hope that
all the midsize and small manufacturers weather thru this okay and
we are hoping and praying for them and their families ! Chuck and
the CREW at W.O.W. SURF WHERE "SURFING IS WALKING ON WATER"

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -

The main swell is as small as it gets at Domincal. Really nice for
long boarders and beginners. Every once in a while a shoulder to
head high
wave pulls through if you have the patience to wait.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
Tuesday and I never believe the forecast that is out that far.

fun for longboarding with the dropping tides. The 'toes on the nose'

few overhead sets every half hour, and that swell keeps it head high
through next weekend.

Sea, growing from waist high surf on Monday to headhigh on
Wednesday. It hits fully on Thursday, with surf 1-2 foot overhead
but drops down a foot Friday. Saturday and Sunday will have more 1-2
foot overhead waves.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 12/3)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

Exactly as predicted, the slightly weird Westerly swell hit on
Thurs. Fun, head high and off shore, surf in spite of the annoying
ripple. Light crowds - very little Tamarindo spill over due to the
nasty road conditions and some swell getting in inside the bay.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): If the wind doesn't swing to a
slightly less northerly direction, the cross chop will continue to
blemish otherwise excellent head high sets.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The focus areas are markedly
skewed with the most consistent peak on Thurs. just north of Las
Tortugas Hotel and the smoother waves at the north end of Playa
Grande arouind Chicken Head Rock. Dual sessiones will begin on Sun.
with the daybreak go out.

** From Travis's blog at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

Waist high waves and off shore breezes today made for the long
boarders smile and the short boarders yawn. The current SW swell is
definitely waning and is expected to continue to do so.
Hopefully, there is something on the horizon. Right now, it doesn't
look like much... At least it isn't raining! Pura Vida, Travis Call -
Positive Vibe Technician
- WRSC

** From John Lyman at Pablos Picasso in Playa Negra -

The surf has been on the small side the past few days. Waist to
chest high with head high sets coming every once in a while.
Absolutely gorgeous mornings with offshore wind and super low tides.
Great for tide pooling.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The surf here at Playa Negra will
be best on the incoming tides. This week will see high tides in the
early morning so dawn patrol for small perfect longboard waves.
Where are the crowds? Must be in Tamarindo.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Playa Negra in front of the
hotel on the higher tides and maybe Avellanas Rivermouth on the
lower tides if there is enough swell. Should be at least chest high.

2006 Costa Rica Surfing Calendars. Also available, The Waves Of
Costa Rica and Sunsets Of Costa Rica. Check them out and order yours
before the Christmas rush.
http://tamarindobeach.net/photos_lyman/index.html

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Playa Nosara -

Surf is about head-high here with a mix of both NW and SW waves, so
a bit inconsistent at times. Best times are mid to rising high and
NOT around the low tides. Check out the new DVD on Pavones:
http://www.junglejuicefilm.com/

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -

The swell has backed down. The small 4 foot waves rolling in, soft
peaks, good form. Best conditions are right after high tide, the
waves clean up a bit and aren't as full. Easier to catch. Choppy and
windy with the rain. Occasional off shore winds, for perfect wave
conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell expected to hold over
the weekend, but will back down to the normal 4 to 5 foot waves
during high tides, and nice whitewater during low tides. Lots of
waves to catch, good inside and outside break., Some chop but nice
and glassy after the rainstorms.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds or localism, with a nice clean perfect wave. LONG RIDES THIS
WEEK!
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: The conditions
in Samara are bigger now, great for intermediate and advanced
surfers, so all surfers can come enjoy Samara.!! Also if you've
always wanted to learn surfing come on down or over! Always great
whitewater for beginner lessons! Pura Vida

** From Tommy at Rancho Coral in Playa Esterillos - (11/29)

feet. It's going off at Rancho Coral today, Pura Vida!

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -

Shoulder high waves coming mixed from the south and straight in.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It looks like what little we have
will be shrinking to nothing. I've rarely seen such calm from LOLA.
Get your long boards ready.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Monday calls for head high to overhead waves south of Play
Hermosa, chest to head high from Mal Pais to Avellanas, and waist to
chest high surf (at best) for Tamarindo. Swell is a weak one from
the SW, which after dying Tuesday is replaced by another weak one
from the WNW arriving Thursday afternoon, keeping the surf chest to
head high. Then expect a drought of waves from Friday (waist to
chest) all the way until next Sunday (12/11), when another SW
arrives as the moon goes to full.

Caribbean - Remnants of an ENE swell give the coast some waist high
surf with a sneaker chest high set every hour. Then by Tuesday it
drops to knee to waist and by Thursday knee high going into the
weekend. There is a strong ENE swell on the other side of Cuba, but
it being blocked.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 11/18)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

We've been enjoying beautiful afternoon, head high + waves this week
with glassy, and slightly off shore, overcast conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
possibility on Sat. with higher probabilities for good surface
conditions and double sessions.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The sand is a little odd and
we are seeing good waves at different spots all along the north end
of the bay. I am noticing peaks that are not being ridden as
everyone bunches up in the traditional areas.

** From Travis's blog at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

Slight onshores let up in the afternoon to allow the waist to chest
high waves to roll in. Waves were better a few hours before high
tide today, with high tide being a bit mushy...Two high tides per
day for the next couple of days should increase the chances of good
waves for the people of Tamarindo. This swell is set to pick up
steam tomorrow afternoon and hold strong until, at least, Thursday.
Check back tomorrow for me... Pura Vida, Travis Call - Positive Vibe
Technician - WRSC

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Playa Nosara -

Surf is building - better today (Friday) as the swell fills in -
some head-high set waves showing - best times are mid-to-rising high
tide. BIC boards available from me - great for beginners and surf
lessons - they DON'T ding, they dent. www.coconutharrys.com

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula - (11/10)

The swell has backed down, but there are still some bigger waves
rolling in, 4 feet waves, good form. Off shore winds, before the
rain storms, but
mostly choppy conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is expected to be coming
in with the new moon being on it's way, hopefully bringing 6 to 7
foot waves, nice form.
For the weekend we have 4 foot waves, soft peaks, great for
intermediate surfers. Good time to practice up on your skills.
Perfect conditions for beginners for whitewater. Choppy conditions
with rain.
LONG RIDES THIS
WEEK!
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Local surf
contest being held in Buena vista, Saturday November 19th, proceeds
go towards "helping the turtles project." come visit us in beautiful
playa Samara.

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -

Just back in town after a real nice visit to Mal Pais and Santa
Theresa with a couple of girls from Canada whom we had a dual
destiniation surf camp and my wife , great waves for them and I all
the small fun waves any body could ask for and thanks to Ian and his
wife Caroline from Kina Surf with helping us feel at home ! Place is
blowing up , hadnt been there in a while and I am shocked at how
much its growing ! Jaco surf today was about 3-5 ft faces and super
fun they say with the hightide in the late P.M. ! A little bit oif
rain helped it glass off too ! All for now , Thanks ! Chuck and the
Crew at W.O.W. SURF !

** From Tommy at Rancho Coral in Playa Esterillos -

(11/17) Local Climate: Partly Sunny, Air Temp: 91F. Water Temp 85F,
Direction & Height: South 2-3ft., Sea Surface: Glass, Wind: Offshore
0-5 MPH
Sunrise: 5:31 AM Sunset: 6:12 PM, Current Conditions: We have small
surf expected to pick up tomorrow which should sustain through the
weekend 4-6 feet of fun, Pura Vida!

** New report from Manuel Antonio Surf School:

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
Playitas Beach (Manuel Antonio) can go from 3 to 6 feet. Mouth of
the river Damas Island can go from 3 to 12 feet. Devil's Elbow
breaks until 12 feet high to 20 feet. Playa del Rey from 3 to 12
feet.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
5 feet in Damas, Devil's Elbow not available (too small), Playa Del
Rey around 5 feet.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Rey. These breaking points are similar to Playa Hermosa and Jacó.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: MASS has
opened a new surf shop! We now sell t-shirts, new and used boards,
surf accesories, and t-shirts. Come by and check us out!

** From Brice at Land Assurance Tree Reforestation in Dominical -

Shoulder high waves with great rides. Good at all tides.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It looks like we might have a
bump coming for a couple of days, but these often do not
materialize. At the least, there should be a slightly bigger outside
wave for those who want to wait for it.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: I've gotten reports that
Hermosa is not happening. The point is out of the question. So, the
beach at Dominical seems like the best option.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: If anyone has
been wondering where the Dominical report has been for the last few
weeks, I've been out of the water with a back injury and will remain
out of the water for 6 months. Since I live at the beach I will
continue with the reports as I see the waves but won't be able to
comment on currents until I get back out. As a piece of advice to
any surfer who doesn't take it seriously, never (if you can help it)
go off your board head first. The beach at Dominical is very
different after this years rains. Instead of a uniform flat sandy
bottom there are sand bars, rock flats, channels, and other bumpy
bottom features especially near the river mouth. I came off a
shoulder high wave (which I tore up as best as I can remember) and
happily took a shallow dive into...surprise...about 1 foot of water.
I broke my back (totally recoverable but nevertheless) with this
stupidity. Don't be stupid.

remains of a SW swell. Tuesday drops another foot, smaller the farther north you
go from Dominical. Wednesday to Friday the WSW swell keeps some head high sets
coming in and it's not until Saturday that the first overhead sets of a SW swell
fill in. The weekend calls for overhead conditions, but you have to wait for the
sets. Best time of day is early morning low tides barrels. Caribbean - "Next
ENE swell to come in a week from Tuesday." is true from last week's forecast,
but the first head high sets will arrive on Monday. Tuesday it maxes out with
surf 1-2 foot overhead, but quickly fades back to head high on Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday still show some head high sets, but more infrequent. And
Saturday, another ENE swell shows an overhead set every forty minutes. More
swell forecasted in the next two weeks, time to book a trip or head over from
the Pacific. To do your own forecast - use our links at

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Excellent
morning surf in the head high range for several days now with light off shore
wind holding through the tides. The hotties are calling it weak and the rest of
us are feeling like we are in paradise. The sand is in fairly good shape for
long rides and very little high tide mush out. The crappy roads are opening
spaces for uncrowded sessions here and there. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND
(weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The
tides are moving into the mid day slot and threatening the perfect morning wind
conditions at out going tide. The overcast cloud conditions will help the wind
stick around. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a

CR Surf Report For 11-6-05

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 10/7)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

The afternoon sessions have been dreamy for the last few days in the
shoulder high range and perfect conditions for glassey surf and
outer space sunsets.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
probability of continuing good surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: In front of the hotel if it
stays small.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: The turtles
are here.

** From Travis at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

Friday, November 4th: Beautiful, glassy conditions today were host
to head high waves in Tamarindo. At this time of year, there aren't
entirely too many people in the water which made this evening's
sunset session one to remember.

Saturday, November 5th: Slight on shore winds gave way to yet
another sunset glassoff this evening. The 4-6 foot swell coming from
the southwest at 215 degrees delivered consistent 3-5 waves this
afternoon up until high tide, at which point, the waves mushed out
for 15 minutes or so... All in all, another beautiful day in
Tamarindo. This being a high tide break, we're all looking forward
to two good sessions over the next few days, starting bright and
early tomorrow. More then! Pura Vida, Travis Call - WRSC Positive
Vibe Technician

** From John Lyman Photos at Pablo's Picasso with the Playa Negra
surf report:

The surf has been on the small side with chest to shoulder high
waves and a few headhigh and just overhead sets every now and then.
Lightly offshore in the morning with slick glassy afternoons.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): This weekend will stay in the
head high range with high tide really early in the morning and a low
low tide around noon. It should start to pick up a bit out of the
southwest by Tuesday and should stay in the fun range for the rest
of the week.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a

The waves have been small for a week and are just now picking up.
The beach is closed out and the wind is onshore. Not the best
conditions to say the least. However, this morning the point was
working even if not too clean.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Head high surf for the rest of the weekend, with a few
overhead sets. Picks up a foot on Monday with a long range SSW swell
with a 16 second period. Tuesday will stay a foot overhead with sets
getting closer together. Wednesday and Thursday will be smaller,
down to chest high up in the Nicoya Peninsula with a few freak WNW
waves coming from a swell that started up in the Aluetians last
week. Steady head high surf with an overhead set every half hour for
Friday and all weekend. Long range forecast shows more of the same,
with no big swells on the horizon but lots of consistent head high
to overhead surf and less rain in the forecast.

Caribbean - Waist to chest high surf greets Sunday's surfers, which
will disappear quickly Monday and drop to knee high by Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday will stay small, but Friday afternoon brings
some more chest high surf which should stick around over the
weekend.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 10/28)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
The latter part of the week saw light offshores, sunny skies, and
small but reasonably fun surf. Friday the wind switched onshore by
mid morning but the waves were still fun at waist to chest high.
Friday night the rain came down hard, and Saturday morning we've
seen some cloud cover with the sun trying to break through, with the
ocean glassy but the waves a bit mixed up.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin >de semana (clima y olas): Still a somewhat fun little
swell in the water, >so could be fun, though the predicted bad
weather from the hurricane could >mean onshore winds and messy
conditions.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear >este fin de semana en su area: The main peak at Grande
seems to have the >occasional fun wave while north and south it's a
little weaker.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: The turtles
are here.

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
This week we had two days of bright blue skys and light off-shores!
It was like a miracle. The ocean finally looked relaxed after being
blown into a frenzy for a month by on-shore winds. The water is
considerably cleaner after a break in the rain. Waves are waist high
and pretty fun.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It rained really hard this
morning just before daylight, and today is humid again. Waves are
going to me small, but conditions are much better than they've been
in weeks. Expect to surf in the mornings.
mananas.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: There are nice waves at Pico
Pequeno and at the beach by the rivermouth.

** From Witchs Rick Surf Camp in Tamarindo -
It was a spectacular day in Tamarindo (weather wise) today. The
waves were small but the conditions were perfect. Off shore breeze,
sunny... aaaaahhh. A new swell is on the horizon and is set to stay
with us from Tomorrow through Sunday! Look for head high waves and
(hopefully) more off shore wind for the next few days, at least.

info@... NATIONAL FORECAST Pacific - Head high surf for the rest of the
weekend, with a few overhead sets. Picks up a foot on Monday with a long range
SSW swell with a 16 second period. Tuesday will stay a foot overhead with sets
getting closer together. Wednesday and Thursday will be smaller, down to chest
high up in the Nicoya Peninsula with a few freak WNW waves coming from a swell
that started up in the Aluetians last week. Steady head high surf with an
overhead set every half hour for Friday and all weekend. Long range forecast
shows more of the same, with no big swells on the horizon but lots of consistent
head high to overhead surf and less rain in the forecast. Caribbean - Waist to
chest high surf greets Sunday's surfers, which will disappear quickly Monday and
drop to knee high by Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday will stay small, but Friday
afternoon brings some more chest high surf which should stick around over the
weekend. To do your own forecast - use our links at
