TIDES *for Friday - add 50 min. each day after

High Tide - 7.22 ft. at 11:57 AM
Low Tide - 1.69 ft. at 6:06 PM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - I try not to lie. When I said last week, a big SW was
coming, it was. And it still is, but won't arrive until Tuesday
afternoon. Until then, expect it to get flat, waist high if you're
lucky for the rest of the weekend. But by Tuesday morning, a few set
roll through in the overhead range. Wednesday morning, expect a mixed
swell with lots of set waves up north from a near shore NW pushing in
2 foot overhead surf. Best spot - any point break for an easy paddle
and to clean up the huge surf. Central and southern zones - 1-2
overhead on Wednesday, 3-5 foot overhead on Thursday, 1-3 foot
overhead until next Saturday. Another SW is 3 days behind this front.

Caribbean - The Caribbean coast has returned to a snorkeling
paradise - otherwise a lake until Monday afternoon, when surf picks
up a little to knee, with a few waist high mushburgers. By Wednesday
you will see a slight increase, with maybe a chest high set. And by
Thursday, the ESE swell will push in some head high waves to the best
spots.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

Chest to head high at Playa Grande with high tide now falling midday,
which means the onshore winds are already blowing just when the tide
gets right. The pattern has been light offshores until around mid-
morning with the wind switching onshore well before noon.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
Chest to head high waves, but onshore winds. Still fun, though not as
good as it can be this time of year when the offshores are usually
more consistent.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Playa Negra or Avellanas may be worth checking out in the morning
hours before the wind gets on it.

** From Diana, the best surf maestra in Tamarindo -

What a delightful week of waves. Mornings at Langosta have had
overhead waves breaking on the outside, Henry's point rolled out
lefts and rights and the beach by the lifeguard stand had beautiful
head high waves breaking both ways. The wind has been staying off-
shore until anywhere between 9 and 11 am. The water is warm again,
due to the on-shore afternoons.
manana.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
This weekend the high tides are around mid-day, so the wind could be
a problem for high tide spots. The swell is diminishing, but at this
point there's enough of it left to be able to surf low and mid tides
as well.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Definitely Playa Negra this weekend, as the swell we have left is
coming from the south and the early morning off-shores will be
perfect for Playa Negra's low-tide wave. Definitavamente Playa Negra
Playa Negra.

** From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -
This has been a STRANGE month, I think the weather has already
decided it's winter time and we're experiencing some strange
onshores. There has been surf, but the wind is getting on it early.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -
We should see a slight increase in swell, nothing bigger than
chest/head high at Witch's and Ollie's. As of thursday evening, the
wind was switching onshore/offshore/onshore etc., it will be
interesting to see what happens this weekend. Its almost as if the
wind wants to go back to normal, if it does a few lucky surfers will
score BIG.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -
Witch's Rock, with the high tide at mid day.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-
Tamarindo lifeguards no longer have any financial support and are
forced to quit! Wouldn't it be nice if many of the local Tamarindo
businesses would kick in to help support our lifeguards (as they save
tourists' lives,
which equals more tourists alive and supporting your businesses) In
an attempt to stop this, WRSC is offering to pay IN FULL FOR ALL
LIFEGUARDS TO WORK TAMARINDO BEACH. If any other businesses want to
join, please do. If not, well, I guess you can do this to.

Low Tide - (-1.21) ft. at 10:49 AM
High Tide - 10.32 ft. at 5:08 PM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Strong tides swings expected for this weekend! Surf chest
to head high up north from a consistent WNW, best up at Ollie's.
Farther south, the weekend holds a little more size - 1-2 foot
overhead until Wednesday, when it drops down to head high. Friday
should see a foot inscrease and more sets coming from some long range
SW filling in with some overhead sets. Dawn patrols are the call for
this week! Expect a powerful SW to arrive 3 days after the next new
moon in the first week of April.

Caribbean - The weekend will see surf waist high with a few chest
high sets, and remain that way until Tuesday. Then for the rest of
the week, it looks small - knee to waist - until another ESE appears
next Sunday evening.

an occasional bigger set. Stays smaller until next Thursday morning,

a few bombs every 15 minutes. Long range - next big SW swell hits
March 27th.

Caribbean - Over the weekend the last punches of an east swell will
be thrown, waves one foot overhead Saturday, dropping down to head
high Sunday and by Monday afternoon, clean and chest to shoulder

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana, the best surf instructor in Tamarindo -

The typical off-shores came back this week with all their strength
and the water temperature has dropped considerably. Waves are about
waist high, maybe picking up just a bit today. Rumor has it, we're
going to be getting more soon and we're ready for it!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
This weekend we hope for some good waves to go with our great wind.
If you have a spring suit you will definately need it out there.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
This weekend should be an easy one for waves considering the off-
shore wind and mid-day high tides. If the swell is west enough, the
Tamarindo rivermouth may start peeling, if it's more south head to
Langosta.

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

On Thurs. all the breaks in the bay were working at some tide. The
wind blew light off shore all day and the waves were generally
smooth. You still had to pic um due to the squared off nature of this
swell which has been building since Mon. There were a few over head
and a half sets in front of the hotel and broken boards were spotted.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The upper level inverted trough on the East Coast of the U. S.
reported by meteorologist Tim Deegan, which helps squeeze our off
shores through this part of Costa Rica, is predicted to dissipate
over the week end. Off shores are what we are all about so be careful
as we move into the afternoon window next week.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Any of the dozen or so breaks in the bay could be good at different
tides. The elusive Tamarindo Estero mouth, which is only about 4 min.
from the hotel on the Playa Grande service road, has been interesting
on incoming tide.

** From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -
The surf finally picked up on Wednesday, with the southwest showing
in great form. Wednesday and Thursday both head high with bigger
sets, the wind is great- blowing offshore but not too hard.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - The surf should
stick around for a couple of days, dropping this weekend.
Fortunately, we should see the next swell a day or two later. I guess
this is the official start of south swell season...

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -
Witch's Rock and Ollie's Point (always finding this question
amusing), if you can't get on the boat any south facing beach will
have surf. Check out Playa Grande if you're in the Tamarindo area.

DOMINICAL & SOUTHERN PACIFIC

** From Steve at Jazzy's River House in Dominical -

For the last two weeks, surf has been consistently overhead, with the
point working nicely in the mornings. When the waves are smaller, it
has been fun for longboarding out front at the beachbreak. Excellent
sunsets and not too crowded. Jazzy's is still serving dinner on
Wednesdays and Kim still teaches how to make baskets from palm

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diane, the best surf instructor in Tamarindo -

High tides this week have been extremely high, making mid-tide in
Tamarindo preferable to high tide. Waves max out at around shoulder
high, then drop and become smaller as the water level increases. It's
been super-hot with off-shores lasting only until 9-11 AM.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
Get up early this weekend and surf the waves before the wind
switches. It's hard to say what to expect since the wind is behaving
so uncharacteristically. I am sure that whatever we get is going to
be the best in the early morning.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
I think this weekend has a lot of potential. Playa Grande should be
very good in the morning, along with the beach break in Avellanas.
Langosta should be better later in the morning and the Tamarindo
beach break will be good at sun-up. Creo que este fin de semana tiene
muchas posibilidades.

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

The early morning, light off shore, session on Thurs. was shoulder to
head high with good, consistent form. The sand bars are less than
what they could be and are shortening the tidal windows and length of
rides.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The tides are perfect for the weekend and the wind is beginning to
cooperate finally with the possibility of double sessions.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
The entire bay has some surf with the breaks in front of the hotel as
the main focus.
