Overview -

Caribbean Coast - Non-existent waves for most of the week. Wednesday may see a few ENE waist high sets, but nothing past Thursday morning.

Pacific Coast - The chest to head high surf continues for the first part of the week. A SW swell with a 18 second period arrives Thursday in the Guanacaste region, and fills in the rest of the coast by Friday morning, pushing surf well overhead on the sets. This swell lasts through the weekend and fades next Monday, leaving only a short wait before another SSW swell arrives the following Thursday.

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (4/26)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Offshore, head high, and morning tides.

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): Small good surf all morning.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear en su area: The focus of this swell is at the main peak just south of the hotel.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (4/26)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf at Playa Negra has been in that fun zone chest to head high with good shape. Sunny and very hot these last few days with air temps hoving at 100 degrees and the water temp is 84 degrees. Light offshores continue in the mornings and onshore for the afternoons. That onshore wind dies about an hour before sunset and the waves have been fun for the evening glass off. The swell will pick up a bit in the next few days peaking on Monday with headhigh plus from the SW. It will back slide a bit for the middle of the week and then pick up significantly for the end of the week and the beginning of the month. The tides are perfect this upcoming week for the early morning session before the hoard gets out there.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: See daily pics at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com .

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones (4/26) -

We've got small surf here again today. This is about as small as we seem to ever see, but if you wait for the sets, there are some punchy little zippers. Pio got a couple of good ones while I was shooting and you can see from his pictures that you could get some speed if you did things right. The wind is light at report time and the tide is fairly full. We'll see what the wind does today. It shifted yesterday around 8am, but stayed light enough to not mess anything up until about 9:30. Another day another wave. Grab your board and go have fun.

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (4/19)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Some double overhead sets are mixing with the well overhead consistent surf. Surprisingly the wind is holding in the afternoon for the high tides which are high enough to throw backwash into the high tide surge excitement. The water has been a little nippy but is warming up now as the wind backs off.

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): If it doesn't get any bigger and the wind holds for the afternoon high tides, the surf should continue to be excellent until the high tides shift to the morning window in a few days.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear en su area: Pick your peak.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (4/12)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf at Playa Negra has been waist to head high with fair to good shape. Sunny and light offshores in the mornings but turning onshore well before noon. The last few days has had rain the in afternoons. The seasons are changing. The water temp is 82 degrees.

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): The waves will be picking up over the weekend and into the first part of the upcoming week. A steep angle South swell will make it's way to the best exposed south facing beaches with head high plus surf and some bigger sets every hour. Still great beach weather. Don't forget your sunscreen.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear en su area: We have high tide running through the mornings this week so check out Playa Negra early. You'll find head high plus surf and not a lot of people out here. The crowd gets thick around 8:00.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: A whole herd of surfing midgets at Little Hawaii . See the photos at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com .

** From Steve at Coconut Harrys Surf Shop in Playa Guiones -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Solid swell over 2-3 ft overhead. The outgoing low tide conditions in the morning are causing some big close outs. Waves improved as the tide came in until the wind turned onshore. Hoping for a glass off evening session.

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): More big waves and hopefully better shape for Sunday morning.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear en su area: It might pay to drive to some other spots, Garza, Pelada, Rivermouth... Good luck!!

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones (4/19) -

Andrew here for your early Saturday morning report from Guiones. The swell really filled in last night and everyone's waiting to see what the higher tide will bring. We're approaching dead low as of photo time and you've gotta be really picky and find the right shoulder. There is a small crew outside snagging some good ones. Sets are almost double overhead. Could be a really good day to travel to some of the bigger wave spots. The wind is light, so I don't expect it to stay offshore all morning today like it's been doing this week. Grab your bigger board and go get some!!

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco (4/19) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Hey its here, some great surf in the neighborhood ! Up to 3 ft over head and light winds with no rain just like you would want April to be ! Congrats to Jose Calderon on his new sponsorship with Split he will be going on to represent Costa Rica in France in June and will be sure to do great next weekend at Terrazas ! Nice job and looks like Split will also pickup one of BlowFish Surfshop riders from Dominical "ROBERTO" ! Nice work guys! Just go surfing! Chuck and the CREW at W.O.W. SURF!

** From Steve at Jazzy's River House in Dominical (4/19)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: well overhead set waves/clean all day

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): clear, blue sky morning (sat) - more of the same...

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear en su area: dominical, unless the swell builds fast then maybe the point.

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Head high...maybe a few inches over...but somehow the point is crowded and the beach empty...???

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): Same for a few days. Many different events from different directions making for peaks here and there.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear en su area: The beach at Dominical is my bet but everyone else seems to be picking other locations.

Overview - Dropping ESE swell from chest high to waist high by Tuesday. Stays the same all week, with a rare chest high set. A bigger East swell looks to push in some head high surf by Sunday.

The SW swell fades out to start the week, from overhead down to chest high by Wednesday. It's a wave drought until the weekend, when a minor SSW swell brings some head high sets, a foot bigger at the better beachbreaks.

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (4/13)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Yesterday (Sat. ) was alittle too big and raw but everything now is lining up for some great surf with the morning high tides and offshores.

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): Perfect conditions

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: bright blue skies early, high clouds filling in. Less than head high waves this morning conditions clean and uncrowded. Best local spot: Dominical. Early rainy season return: light rain last three afternoons. Baru River flowing high and muddy.

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical - (4/12)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: A bad back and a lot of work has kept me from doing any surfing over the small days of last week. Today, the swell arrived and it looks nice at the beach; I'll be out tomorrow. The point doesn't seem to be very large even though the swell shows it should be but I'll have to pick between the point or the beach for tomorrow.

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): The swell will peak tonight (Saturday) and go down during the week. Should be big enough to have good fun through Wednesday.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear en su area: Either the point or the beach. We'll see tomorrow.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (4/5)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The swell is holding, but the high tides have moved into the afternoon and the early onshore wind has been blowing it out.

WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): Evening glass offs are possible.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear en su area: Check the main peak first.

** From Rafael at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo (4/2) -

Today the waves look great in the morning, offshore wind and sizes 3ft to 5ft really good for all the surfer but in the afternon the wind change to chopped and onshore conditions..

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (4/5)

Playa Negra has been in the head high range with fair to good shape. Low tide in the mornings has made the place tube city with lots of ins and outs. Light offshore wind early but coming onshore by about 9:00 the last few mornings. More perfect beach weather and 81 degrees for the ocean. We have smaller surf on tap for the next few days. Waist to head high as small pulses of SW move through our little corner of paradise. By mid week coming up we will see more long period swells out of the SW with at least head high surf and probably bigger on the sets. Start looking for rain clouds in the afternoons as the rainy season gets closer.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Naked dancing girls on the beach at Playa Negra. www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (4/7)

If you want a local hand shape see Carton from Carton surfboards he has the ba--s to build his own boards and does a great job at it and doesn't have to BURN anyone else to sell his boards and doesn't cut corners to produce some low quality boards to sell to the unknowing !
