NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Headhigh surf for the weekend, with a few overhead sets at
the bigger breaks on Saturday. Sunday will stay the same, but on
Monday the SW swell fades a foot, but stays fun at chest high.
Tuesday will see a SSW bump back to overhead in the southern part of
the country, while on Wednesday the Guanacaste coast will see some
headhigh sets. Other than those days, it's going to be small until
next Sunday's evening session - when on 8-7 a few South swell
overhead nuggets start lining the horizon for the next three days.

Caribbean - Overhead surf continues on Sunday, but by the evening
the sets get farther apart. Monday the swell drops quickly to waist
high and by Tuesday, what swell? - waist high again. Wednesday and
Thursday will see a few chest high sets, but no increase in size
until next Sunday from the ESE.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 7/29)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y
condiciones:This has been a beautiful week of great surf in the just
overhead rangewith consistent off shores. Today the swell dropped
down to head high on the sets and the wind was jittery for part of
out going but left the shape intact.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Conditions are fine for the
morning sessions and the dropping swell has perfect shape.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: As it drops in size, the
peaks in front of the hotel will be receiving the major push.

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
For the last few days the surf has been really small--about waist
high--but the good news is that the high tide is in the morning and
the wind has been off-shore in the mornings. We've had a few days
without rain, so the water is crystal clear.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): According to the swell forecast,
it's going to stay the same throughout the weekend and maybe drop
off even a little bit more. Weather-wise, expect some rain because
even though it's dry now, the skys are heavy.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Playa Grande is the pick for
weekends like these. As it hasn't rained in the last days, the road
should be fine.

** From Harry at Coconut Harry's in Playa Guiones (Nosara) -
Hola from Playa Guiones (Nosara) - it's a great time to be learning
how to surf - smaller waves with great shape - we just introduced 3
girls to this wonderful sport today - shoulda seen the smiles on
their faces when they came in from their 1st surf session - it was
true 'pura vida'! Chest high with occasional head-high set waves
showing - wind has been cooperating too, with the typical morning
offshores and then stayin light onshore (not a factor) rest of the
day with an evening glass off. Coconut Harry www.coconutharrys.com

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -
SURF REPORT AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamaño de las olas y
condiciones: The swell is backing off, back to the normal 3 to 4
foot waves, choppy conditions. Great whitewater for beginners. After
the rains hit the conditions turn glassy with good shaped fun
longboarding waves.
largas.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Qué va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is expected maybe for the
weekend the waves will pick up to 4 to 5 feet. Good shape and glassy
conditions after rainstorms.
tormentas.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar para
surfear este fin de semana en su área: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds or localism and a cleaner wave.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y días especiales: The conditions
in Samara are perfect for beginners right now, so if you've always
wanted to learn surfing come on down or over! Saturday 30th, beach
clean up! Lend a hand then go surf the waves!!... Pura Vida Las
entonces, si siempre has querido aprender a surfear ¡ven para acá!
El sábado 30, ¡limpieza de la playa! ¡Dános una mano y luego
surfeamos!...Pura Vida

** From Chuck at WOW Surf Shop in Jaco -
Bueno ¡ It wasnt so bad at the tree today , shoulder to head-high
clean conditions . If it would have been just a bit bigger ? Tides
are real good for the a.m. surf and the rains are back here again
after a weeklong absence . Hope you guys up norht took adavntage of
the offshores because its going to change again . Jaco loves rain
and its still glassy here at 12:30 midday ! Lets go surfing ! Pura
Vida and Happy Surfing ! Chuck and the crew at W.O.W. surf !

** From Rancho Coral in Esterillos -
Local Climate: Overcast, Air Temp: 91F. Water Temp 87F, Direction &
Height: Southwest 4-6ft, Sea Surface: Glass, Wind: South 0-3 MPH,
Sunrise: 5:20 AM
Sunset: 6:03 PM, Current Conditions- We have a good sized southwest
combined with a near 10 feet of tide. Get to those southwest spots
to get the most of it. We do have lots of Traffic here at The Ranch
but, it looks like lots more swell to last until August, PURA
VIDA!!!!

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -
Yes, the waves are small but at Dominical we are still having
regular waves that are shoulder high and occasionally head high. The
wind is acting up in the mornings sometimes leaving the afternoon
surf to be the best. But this morning it was offshore until about
8:00 am and the waves were small but very fun.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): I don't see any big changes in
the coming week. It is a good time to practice up on the long board.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The beach at Dominical or
Hermosa.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - 1 to 2 foot overhead for the weekend with a 15 second
period Saturday (don't forget that there is a 10 foot tide swing
this weekend so the waves usually pick up on the incoming tide)
shortening to 13 seconds by Monday from the SW swell. Size drops a
little by Monday afternoon, stays overhead through Tuesday, but on
Wednesday there will be a noticable drop down to head high with only
a few bigger sets. After that, expect another drop in wave height,
with surf only chest high (head high at peak beaches) through the
following weekend and early the following week.

Caribbean - The weekend begins with fun chest to head high waves
with an occasional overhead set. By Sunday the sets get more
consistent, but not as big and on Monday it is back to waist to
chest surf. Tuesday afternoon another pulse of ESE swell fills in
with some chest high sets and from Wednesday through to next weekend
will be chest to head high, or bigger depending on the distance of
the nearby tropical storms.

surf drops a foot. Stays 2 feet overhead through next Tuesday, but
afterwards looks smaller.

Caribbean - The burst of head high+ plus coming from Emily will drop
off on Tuesday to chest high. For the rest of the week, continuous
wind swell will keep it waist to chest high with some infrequent
head high sets at the primo spots. Solid chest to head by Friday.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 7/15)

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

Tamarindo surf is small this week and has dropped even more today;
probably waist high at best. A few days have been off-shore all
morning and close to glassy at sunset. There hasn't been much rain
this week so the water is really clear.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas):This weekend will be a weekend for
sunset sessions. The swell is supposed to pick up again so we hope
not to have the late afternoon thundertsorms.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
should be the best places in the area since the surf is small. Playa
pequenas.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

The surf at this end of the bay has been huge and out of control so
we've been slipping down the service road to the Tamarindo Estero
mouth and killing it on both sides of "Baulas" with early morning
overhead beauties. It is pretty inconsistent, but smooth.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It should calm down some and
possibly be ridable elsewhere in the bay by Sunday.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: If it calms down a little we
can surf out front.

** From Harry at Coconut Harry's in Playa Guiones (Nosara) -

Hola mi amigos - it's Coconut Harry in Playa Guiones (Nosara). Huge
or BIG, like 15-18 foot faces rolling in - kinda tough to get out at
this beach break and closing out most sets. Some spots nearby are
working fairly good on this type of swell. "Olga's" was fun this
morning - a right point, surfable around the high tides. Looks like
more manageable surf by Monday. If you come to Nosara, stop by my
shop for a free, local map. Pura Vida - Coconut Harry

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -

HUGE!!! 7 to 8 foot, good shape waves with a fast peak. 3 per set,
then 8 to 10 foot closeouts roll in. Great dawn patrol with glassy
conditions.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is here, the waves may
drop down to their normal swell size 4 to 5 foot, to stick through
the weekend. Good shape and glassy conditions after rainstorms.
Choppy when it is windy. During low tides some 6 to 8 foot close
outs rolling in.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds or localism and a cleaner wave.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: The swell has
hit!!!!!!!!! Come surfing! Great beginner conditions for learning to
surf during low tides, bring the kids and the whole family. Time to
learn is now! Pura Vida

** From Chuck at WOW Surf in Jaco -

FURTHER , it doesn't get any better than what we have for rent ,

us at chucks@... or chuck@... for the latest
info and availability !

** From Rancho Coral in Esterillos -

(from 7-16) Local Climate: Overcast, Air Temp: 91F. Water Temp 87F,
Direction & Height: Southwest 4-6ft, Sea Surface: Glass, Wind: South
0-3 MPH, Sunrise: 5:20 AM, Sunset: 6:03 PM, High Tide: 09:35 AM /
8.14 ft, Low Tide: 03:55 PM / 1.77 ft, Current Conditions- We have a
good sized southwest that should sustain through the weekend into
next week. Awsome Surf here at The Ranch, PURA VIDA!!

** From Brice at Land Assurance Reforestation in Dominical -

Big, gnarly, crashing waves at Dominical. Barely surfable. Eight
people went out yesterday at high tide and within 1/2 hour two
boards were broken and one person was left out surfing.
Unfortunately, the point isn't going off (this is not uncommon when
the swell is not deep enough from the south). So, we are sort of
shut out here for a day or two. I think as the swell shrinks just a
tad, the beach will work very well. The waves have form and some
good tubes. It is just to hard to work it.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Slightly smaller but still big
and strong.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Don't know what to say.
Hermosa looked the best yesterday off the point on the north end of
the beach but I didn't go out.

NATIONAL FORECAST
Pacific - The solid 1-2 foot overhead surf continues Tuesday and
Wednesday, and builds Thursday up to 2-4 foot overhead, 14 second
period, with a few horizon blocking sets from the South. The
northern Nicoya peninsula may see even bigger surf from a tropical
storm up by El Salvador. Friday doesn't get any bit smaller, with
more consistent sets, and only by Saturday does it drop back to a
more manageable 1-2 foot overhead. It will drop another foot Sunday,
but stay a foot overhead through next week and by the following
Thursday (7-21) another SSW swell arrives, keeping it 2-3 foot
overhead going into the next weekend.

Caribbean - Not much surf to speak about, knee to waist high at
best, with a day of swell on Thursday from hurricanes forming
farther east. Best to head over to the Pacific Coast.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 7/9)

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

Tamarindo surf is small this week and has dropped even more today;
probably waist high at best. A few days have been off-shore all
morning and close to glassy at sunset. There hasn't been much rain
this week so the water is really clear.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas):

This weekend will be a weekend for sunset sessions. The swell is
supposed to pick up again so we hope not to have the late afternoon
thundertsorms.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a

Playa Grande and Avellanas should be the best places in the area
since the surf is small. Playa Grande y Avellanas deben ser los
mejores lugares debido a las olas pequenas.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

Since yesterday we have had small (shoulder to head high) clean
swell and good early morning surface conditions. The off shore
trades are sweeping out of Papagayo and hitting us with a lot of
north side shore in the afternoon during incoming.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas):If the swell picks up a little,
the surf should be excellent for the next few days in the morning.
The afternoon session has potential if the trades can move a little
south and hit us more off shore.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The swell is hitting the
Playa Grande end of the bay.

** From Harry at Coconut Harry's in Playa Guiones (Nosara) -

It's chest-high with occasional head-high set waves. Good shape,
though and the on-shore wind has been fairly light all day. If
you're coming to Nosara, stop by my shop for a free local map. Pura
Vida, Coconut Harry

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -

The new moon just passed and with it came nice 4 to 5 foot waves,
good shape, nice form. Close outs during low and mid tides. Great
whitewater for beginners. After the rains hit the conditions turn
glassy with good shape.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Qué va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas):
A swell is here, 4 to 5 foot waves, to stick through the weekend.
good shape and glassy conditions after rainstorms. Choppy when it is
windy. During low tides some 4 to 6 foot close outs roll in.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
The best surfing spot in Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas
Del Pacifico hotel. No crowds or localism and a cleaner wave.

** From Brice at Land Assurance Reforestation in Dominical -

The waves are shoulder high and mushy even at lower tides.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Looks like the same through the
weekend with a swell coming on Monday.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Right at the Dominical beach
is the best. Off Tortilla flats is probably the best place on the
beach but for some reason, there are strong southern currents even
without big waves. So, if this continues, put in just south of the
river mouth and let the current push you south and across the flats.
You'll stop drifting south somewhere in front of the cell tower.
I've never understood this condition and what is driving it.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Surf stays small through Sunday morning, with the first
overhead sets from a 12 second period SSW swell arriving for the
late afternoon session. Monday, the 4th, it picks up a foot with in
consistent 1-2 foot overhead sets. Tuesday the swell maxes out, 1-3
foot overhead, and Wednesday it's still big, but cleaner. Thursday
it will drop two feet, and stay overhead until next weekend. More SW
swell keeps it overhead and bigger for the following week.

Caribbean - If you want to surf the Caribbean, head on over Monday
morning and wait for the East swell to fill in with some chest to
head high sets by evening. Tuesday is overhead at the best spots,
with possibly a few freak sets. Monday morning it fades quickly,
back down to waist to chest by the afternoon. And Thursday through
next weekend goes back to flatness. Atlantic tropical systems may
push in by the following week.

AREA REPORTS

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
This has been a great week for surf lessons. The waves are waist
high and the wind has been off shore every morning until almost
noon. The ocean was pretty muddy from a lot of rain last weekend,
but by now it's cleaned up and is clear again.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It should be a great weekend for
longboarding in the late morning and early afternoon.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The beach break in Tamarindo
is a great place to surf right now if you're looking for small
waves; for more size, check out Langosta.
Langosta.
Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
Thurs. morning was head high and perfect for 6 hours, but on Fri. it
dropped to a slightly drunken, chest high, long boarder
extranvaganza. The wind conditions are moving toward a more Indian
Summer off shore.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The high tide is still in the
morning so the wind should be alright at least for in coming, but
we'll need a little more swell for it to get really good not just
rideable.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: It's pretty much only hitting
out in front of the hotel.

** From Mike at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS – The surf this past weekend was
really epic. We are just coming off nice swell that leveled out at
10-12 feet and started dropping off on Tuesday. This upcoming
weekend is the first weekend in a month we will see decreasing swell
activity. The surf at Tamarindo Rivermouth has clean conditions
every morning and late in the evenings. However, all the beaches in
Northern Costa Rica are dropping in wave size as we speak.
Nevertheless, the wind has been near perfect all week and will
probably stay light off-shore throughout the weekend. My advice for
the weekend is keep the fish and long board handy, because the surf
is looking like it will be in the waist to chest high range with
clean conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) –
Due to the increase rain activity the river runoff has caused the
water to become a little murkier than usual. However, the waves are
still peeling in the usual way. This weekend will see more of the
same. The swell system will continue to drop off throughout the
weekend. The surf will go from chest high on Thursday to possibly
knee to waist high on Sunday. I would look for some smaller waves
with nice form. There is a good possibility of rain throughout the
weekend. With this in mind, your best bet would be to surf early in
the morning and late in the afternoon. On the upside I do believe we
will have a building swell heading our way by mid next week!
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA –
All the beaches in Northern Costa Rica should have waist to chest
high conditions. The swell will be dropping off throughout the
weekend. Look for Tamarindo, Avellanas, Witch's Rock, Ollie's Point,
Playa Negra, Play Grande, and Nosara to all have glassy to semi-
glassy surf in the waist high range. All the breaks should have some
fun waves to be had. Nevertheless, another S-SW swell should show up
sometime next week.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-

mornings with the glassy conditions. Looks like a 'bump-up' showing
Monday/Tuesday. Surf lessons and BIC boards for sale:

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -
With the new moon on it's way the swell looks like it's rising.
Right now the conditions are the regular 3 foot mushy waves. Close
outs during low and mid tides. Great whitewater for beginners. After
the rains hit the conditions turn glassy with good shape.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is expected to be coming
in if so nice3 to 5 foot waves, good shape and glassy conditions
after rainstorms. Choppy when it is windy.During low tides some 4 to
6 foot close outs roll in.
1.80 ms.
