NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Waves will be headhead to overhead Tuesday through Thursday, coming from the WSW and SW. Lots of set waves, and still lots of rain showers. Friday the weather clears up, but the waves clear out leaving cleaner chest to head high surf. Saturday and Sunday morning stay small, but by Sunday evening a few overhead sets show at sunset. By next Monday a SW swell greets the new week with surf overhead, growing to 2 foot overhead by next Wednesday.

Caribbean - Waist high surf Tuesday, with the sets getting more infrequent throughout the day. Wednesday and the rest of the week will be knee high with a rare waist high set at the remote beaches. The first strong NE swell shows up on the radar a week from Tuesday, 11/5.

AREA REPORTS

** From Colin at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo (10/25)-

Another sunny day. I don't think it has rained at all this entire week, which is a welcome relief from this otherwise monsoonal rainy season. Waves are good too, with chest to shoulder high waves breaking out in front of our hotel, and the conditions are still glassy and its almost 1:00 pm. Right now, the tide is rising and the waves are a bit slower than earlier, but still very surfable. I'd suggest taking out the longboard for some fun rides. Water quality is improving, due to the lack of rain. The bay is clearing up and the ocean is starting to look inviting again. Lets, hope this continues. A month from now, we will be wondering if the constant deluge this rainy season was real. We are expecting the swell to pick up over the next few days. Keep checking back for updates.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (10/27)

We have had beautiful sunny skies with no rain for the last few days. It rained a bit today but that is normal for this time of year. The surf has been small with fun shape at the incoming tides. Water temp is 83 degrees and the water quality at Playa Negra is good. Look for an increase in swell from the SW for this weekend with well overhead waves with good shape. The wind should be light offshore in the mornings but coming onshore fairly early. It's a very low tide all though the mornings this week. Watch out for those rocks. The surf stays in the headhigh to overhead range through the end of the month. Happy Holloween.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: New bikini girls at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (10/29)

Hola folks, afternoon update... a bit of rain settling in, and some onshores, but we did have good session this morning... but the water is a bit cold.. it may have dropped below 78 degrees??? weird.

** From Hotel Buenisimo in Santa Teresa (Mal Pais) - (10/27)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: 3 to 4 foot faces - some sneaker sets at 6 to 8 ft. More sun than rain this last week, so water conditions are improving.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Swell seems to be building. Off shore winds Saturday

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Suck Rock or Playa Santa Teresa.

Caribbean - The FLAT label still applies, although a tropical wave pushes rain in from the east. The forecast will improve once we get to November.

AREA REPORTS

** From Colin at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo (10/19)-

What can I say??? It has been very rainy (extreme flooding throughout Costa Rica) and the result is chocolate brown water in Tamarindo accompanied with non-stop onshore winds for the past week, not the best surfing conditions. I guess that's why its called "The Wet Season".

On a brighter note, there is swell!!! Its been head high for the past week. Hopefully, the winds will clean up a bit in the morning. The report from Avellanas is that the water was much clearer with lots of potential if someone can turn off the onshore wind machine. I'll talk to Joe!!!

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (10/19)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf has been small and blown out for the last few days with rain pretty much 24/7. We are suppose to get less rain this upcoming week and I'll believe it when I see it. The surf should pick too out of the SW with waves on Saturday reaching in the double overhead range. If that pesky onshore wind stays down it should be fun. We have the high tide running through the mornings right now so the early birds could get some surfable waves.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: New bikini girls at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (10/20)

Surf in Guiones today is a bit better than it has been. We have a good swell showing at 7.5 ft at 16 seconds. It is a bit out of the South with the direction of 203 degrees, but it has plenty of size to get into the bay. It is not raining at report time, but we did get some last night again. Hopefully these are the death-throws of the rainy season, and it will be nice again soon!

** From Hotel Buenisimo in Santa Teresa (Mal Pais) - (10/20)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco (10/21) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: 8 feet perfect with crystal clear water ! What are you talking about water quality ! Somewhere its like that! Jaco today not too bad , a bit of debris on the beach water green not brown like it's been and 3-5 ft faces and really quite fun, super peaky with a sneeker set here and there! Raining again right now and its supoosed to grow a bit size wise so let's see what tomorrow brings but don't be afraid the waves are fine and the pollution[bad stuff] not dirt, that we could have had got flushed out months ago by the first rains !!! New WEBBERS for 475$ and up right now at W.O.W. SURF –Jaco , BLOWFISH in DOMI , and BANANA SURF CLUB –Tami and soon coming to other shops near you, so if you want a rocket go to one of these INDEPENDENTLY OWNED SURF SHOPS – OWNED and OPERATED BY SURFERS and get a great board for very little bread ! NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Monday starts out 1 to 2 foot overhead, smaller with the tide going out, and the macking sets arriving with incoming tide. Lots of chop due to the wind and rain (what else can you expect for October) but the dawn patrol will be the call for later in the week. Thursday shows the waves dropping down to overhead. As the tide fills in Friday afternoon, a new round of SW swell arrives, pushing sets up to 2 foot overhead. Saturday the waves reach their peak at 2-3 foot overhead, with even bigger freak sets every 30 minutes. It drops off two feet Sunday, and stays a foot overhead through next Tuesday.

Caribbean - The week starts out flat and stays that way. Less chance for showers since the Caribbean Sea is quiet.

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (10/14) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: We still have relatively clean water here on this end of the bay while theTamarindo side is chocolate milk after it rains. The surf has been consistently poor this week with all the on shores in spite of the non stop swells.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Not much!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Take a break.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (10/13)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf has been in the headhigh range with strong onshores 24/7. October is the height of the rainy season and we have been getting plenty of it. Not much surfing going on here. With all the muddy runoff the ocean looks like chocolate milk. Water temp is running in the low 80s.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): More of the same as a low pressure centered just north of Costa Rica has stalled giving us mucho lluvia and plenty of that onshore wind.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The beach is not such a hot place to be this weekend so check the cable tv or get those things done you have been putting off.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Because the surf is shitty, check out the bikini girls at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (10/13)

The rain has let off for a bit here in Guiones, but the waves aren't yet clean. Surf height is in the head high range and the form is not good, with pretty yucky water and lots of chop. It could clean up in a day or so, but we probably won't see it today.

** From Hotel Buenisimo in Santa Teresa (Mal Pais) - (10/13)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Chest high at best. Sloppy, windy, rainy conditions. Lots of brown soup from the que brada runoffs.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Stormy, windy conditions are expected to increase. Small, sloppy swell.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Not much to choose from.

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco (10/13) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Surf is surprisingly good here in Jaco, water is muddie and you need to use super sticky wax but its been clean and peaky at 3-5 ft faces . Its pouring down again and I will tell you it's one of the longest lasting rains I have seen, Lorenzo and I were talking about one in like 92 0r 93 that lasted almost nonstop for 2 weeks so if this one gets backed up by another low pressure we may have a record runner! Sorry for the lowlying homes around, they are just getting hammered . Drive safe and if you want sun go to the caribe side, Say hi to Herschel in Puerto Viejo for us !! Chuck and the CREW at W.O.W. SURF !

** From Andrea at Waves CR Surf Camp in Playa Hermosa -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: 3 a 4 pies, desordenado, mucho viento, tormenta. No ha parado de llover en una semana

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Al parecer va a seguir lloviendo, se aproxima un swell

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Jaco, puede ser Playa Hermosa se arregle
