NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Lots of action.. First, consistent head high
+ surf for Friday and Saturday, then a lull on Sunday
and Monday, dropping to chest with a head high set.
Then Tuesday shows an incredible 20 second period
southwest swell hitting the coastline, not big at
first but clean head high until next Thursday when it
jacks up two feet. By Friday the 12th it should be
double overhead.

Caribbean - A small tropical system over the Caribbean
Sea will push in a few chest high sets for Saturday
and Sunday morning. Afterwards it will be hard to find
surf, mostly in the knee to waist high range. Enjoy
the sunshine & Carnival 2001 in Limon next weekend!!!

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas
y condiciones:
The waves have been small but excellent. Waist- to
chest-high waves have been rolling into Playa Grande
for the last four days, and miraculously, the
offshores have been blowing all day!! It has been
excellent, fun, uncrowded surf!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que
Pray that the offshores hold! If they do, good waves
are guaranteed.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El
The Main Peak and the break directly in front of the
hotel (about 25 yards north of the beach entrance)
have both been firing. Fun, fun, fun. Where is
everyone?

2) From Steve at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa
(north of Mal Pais):

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
Several days of sunny weather and clean surf - even
afternoon glass offs. Swell has been dropping steadily
to chest high this morning; conditions are still
clean, but it's a greyer day with thunder in the
distance.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:
Not much swell around though it may pick up a foot or
so by Sunday. Critical factor will be the weather.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA:
With high tide moving into the morning and incoming
tide in the late p.m. Playa Carmen should have fun
waves if the onshores stay away.

JACO & HERMOSA

3) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

The waves in upper hermosa are chest high, with a
light offshore wind. Low tide is around 10:00 AM. When
the tide starts coming back in, the waves should start
to clean up and not be so closed out. The waves are a
result of a dropping west swell from this last
weekend. Esterillos also had some fun chest high bowls
for the higher tide yesterday. High tide is around
4:00 PM this afternoon. Our in house pros are Dennis
Christopher and Tobit McLean. are doing their Endless
Summer Surf Clinics so, call Tobit for details and

Friday the 13th, 2000

Brought to you each Thursday evening by local surf businesses throughout Costa Rica. See http://www.crsurf.com/links.html for pics., forecast links, and tide charts.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific – Expect a lot of south swell to push up waves in the head high to 1 foot overhead range in the early afternoon. The surf might look sloppy in the morning, with stormy weather keeping the winds mixed. Check the south facing beachbreaks and those lefts that start out at a big rivermouth. Into next week, the surf will get more powerful with a waning moon sucking out the tide. Next weekend is the call.

Caribbean – The tropical system that came through last week has left a lot of debris in the surf. Waves will drop to waist high and winds will remain variable with other storms coming through.

Low tide – Marea baja
5:11 p.m. @ -.5 ft. – (-15 cm.)

SWELL DIRECTION -- DIRECIÓN DEL SWELL

Pacific – For the weekend a dropping swell with very strong tidal surges will make points work at dropping tides and beachbreaks 2-4 hours after low tide. Wave size will be chest to head by Monday. Get on it early, winds switch around 9:30 a.m. and high tide is in the morning, too. Beach direction might play a factor for next week as a tropical system is expected to gain hurricane status near Baja and send a slight NW bump to the Nicoya coastline and open beachbreaks farther south. Another SW swell should bring in overhead surf by next weekend, but nothing crazy.

Caribbean – No swell is showing for the weekend so expect waist high+ surf until Monday. Then tropical systems from the NE will push in chest-head sets for the midweek. Lots of rain will make the winds unpredictable.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

The raw and messy swell is running about head high. The wind has been variable and trustworthy, bringing us some onshores.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):

The tide is right for great morning sessions, and we're expecting some great surf this weekend if the size holds.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:

We're looking at all points in Playa Grande, depending on the tides.

JACO & HERMOSA

3) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

Thursday August 3, 2000 10AM - Hello, from Playa Hermosa de Jaco! It's still 3-4 feet a bit smaller than the last two days. Low tide is 1 PM. The swell is South. This afternoon should be real nice on the incoming tide. Have FUN and........PURA VIDA!!!!
Check the 72 hour Scripps Forecast at http://facs.scripps.edu/surf/nepa.htm
If you need a place to stay your first and last night the Hotel Del Rey has plenty of taxis and rides to the airport 24 hours a day for about $10. Enjoy downtown San Jose by staying in the heart of it only minutes from the International Airport Juan Santa Maria!!!!

3) From Chuck at Chosita del Surf in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

Surf in Jaco is @ 3-4ft semi glassy with some funky storm bump in it , tide is super high and it is having a big effect on our conditions !

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):

Tides are getting back to normal so should be a decent weekend for waves here in Jaco!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:

Mornings are probably going to be best at Hermosa with the dropping tide and back for a fun Hotdog session here in Jaco !

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:

Toes on the nose event this week at Barranca, New longboards to arrive from Juan Rodriguez "one world " Come Check out the selection of both Used and New boards in the shop, right now we have for sure the best and largest selection of new boards in Costa Rica ! We have over 40 new boards from $335 and up! Alvaro Solano did some mean damage surfing a few days ago and seems like he is going to be out of the water for at least a 15 day period. Lets all hope and pray that its not extensive and he recuperates rapidly. Thanks - Chuck

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO

4) From Todd at Alacran Surf in Quepos -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

Diminishing swell has the local breaks in waist high sets with glassy surf for the dawn patrol & late afternoon sessions. Some head high sets can be found in Playitas and certainly at some of the more exposed breaks to the north & south.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):

With no signs of any sizeable swell, we expect that the surf will remain fairly small with most sets at waist to head high. Rain can be expected by 3:00 almost every afternoon which is cleaning things up for glassy afternoon sessions.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:

Try Playitas early in the morning & Bajos in the late afternoon for a more hollow wave...But beware, Bajos is home to many "speed bumps!" For more challenging surf, try heading south to Playa El Rey where you can expect head high surf and clean conditions in the early AM.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:

Congratulations to Christian Jimenez, winner of the local surf tournament in Playitas this past weekend. Christian works as a surf guide/instructor here at Alacran Surf Tours so if anyone out there is looking for some lessons or someone to show them around the local breaks, give us a call at 777-1721 or email us at info@alacransurf.com for more information.

5) From David at Escuela D'Amore in Manuel Antonio -

(Very strong, fast, clean and consistent rights about 6 feet at high tide. Surfers have been suprised at the size that it's had this week at this beach.)

(Clean, powerful, consisent, strong lefts and rights at 3.5 to 4 pies at high tide. The waves here are bigger than normal)

(We only know the wave are VERY big there)

(Rain is possible in the evenings and maybe the afternoons. Probably, the waves are going to be very big.)

(This week most surfers went to Espadilla because the waves have been big and more consistent. It's very possible that this weekend the beach will be elected again to surf at.)

(Yes, August 15th is the "Day of the Mothers" On this day we have lots of special activities, but the most important is for the whole family to be together and make delicious food.)

(This rep
ort was made with the help of a student of our school who has surfed for 20 years!)

DOMINICAL & SOUTHERN PACIFIC

This weekend the swell should drop, but there will good surf early AND late in the day. Don't be discouraged if it looks waist high about 2 hours before low tide. The huge tidal surge will push up the height in the p.m. Lots of rain due to tropical activity. Don't forget to catch sunsets at Paco's Pool Bar on Sundays!

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

Its been consistently overhead and a half for days now. The new swell has made for some shifty and tricky surf. You've gotta pick 'em, but the good ones are screamers.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):

It's up to the wind. Get to it as early as you can for incoming tide, and expect the size to hold.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:

All the breaks up and down the beach are working. In front of the hotel has been the biggest.

2) From Martine at Cafe de Paris in Nosara -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

Waves are not so good. Three feet high, but slow and no offshore wind.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):

Almost the same

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:

Guiones Beach

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:

No surf in Ostional, big arrivals of turtles the next three days.

3) From Steve at Tropicos Latinos in Santa Teresa -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

It's been 2 - 3' over the last few days with conditions varying with the weather...rain in the early hours = disorganized surf. Yesterday had perfect conditions with super glassy head high rights peeling in front of the hotel, today it's disorganized but surfable.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:

More swell. Conditions should remain changeable as we start to move into the second half of the rainy season.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND:

SW swell with low tide at dawn, Sta. Teresa should be the best spot

JACO & HERMOSA

4) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

Hello from Playa Hermosa de Jaco! The waves are south and bigger today 4-6ft and kinda bumpy from an off shore storm. It's sunny and a bit off shore. We have low tide around 4:00PM. This afternoon should be real nice on the incoming tide. Have FUN and........PURA VIDA. We have a south southwest coming in later this week that is going to be a biggie.

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO

Playitas once again is the spot to check first, but for those who are more adventurous - check out Isla Damas for waves 2-3 feet bigger. Watch the drift !!! For the beginners, check out the break right next to the park, it is usually knee to waist with some bigger sets and always glassy before 9 a.m.

DOMINICAL & SOUTHERN PACIFIC

You can sleep in a little this weekend after the disco at Roca Verde with a high tide around 12 noon on Sunday. Then party at Paco's on Sunday with Rosti Pollo. Large tidal surges later in the week will mush out high tide peaks and make it seem small at low tide. Check the point once the swell fills in.

Caribbean – The southeast surge coming in the past week will fade by Sunday with another tropical system filling in by next Thursday. The next one pushes in 1-2 overhead surf and worth a visit to the island.

Pacific – The current swell will be dropping off over the weekend, with longer period sets in the head high range. The winds up in Guanacaste should stay offshore until after noon. Another South swell will arrive Wednesday, pushing the surf up to 1-2 feet overhead. Then it should fill in for the weekend with smaller periods and waves with 8-12 foot faces for South facing beaches.

Caribbean – The storm system is growing SE of Puerto Viejo and will produce surf there for the weekend in the chest to head high range. If it stays or moves westward, the surf will increase Monday to 1-2 overhead at popular breaks.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

The offshores have been a boon to the surf for the past two weeks, although the swell has been droping for several days now. On Weds., we still had some head high sets and perfect conditions in the early morning.WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):

The tides are high in the morning so if the swell doesn't drop anymore, or increases, the offshores should bring us some great surf.

2:30 p.m. @ 10 ft. – 305 cm.

Low tide – Marea baja

SWELL DIRECTION -- DIRECIÓN DEL SWELL

Pacific – Expect BIG tidal surges in the mid-afternoon this weekend bringing in surf 2-3 foot overhead. Then by Tuesday, expect to do the dawn patrol for dreamlike conditions and then recover for the evening session - both with tidal surges of 10+ feet and waves overhead with light wind. The swell will be coming from the SSW to go to the beaches facing that way.

Caribbean – It's rainy season and low pressure systems in the Caribbean Sea are pushing surf in chest to head high at all breaks by Sunday. Then expect it to drop to waist-chest high by next Tuesday.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Steve at Tropico Latinos in Santa Teresa -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
Waves to head high this morning at Sta Teresa, clean with good shape. It´s 12.30 and Playa Carmen is still clean with no sign of the dreaded onshores yet. Rainy nights, sunny days, no crowds.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:
Would expect the surf to come up a bit and the weather to continue in this vein. Big tides could affect the surf. Mal Pais's infamous hill is being paved so you will either have a less slippery drive in (if they finish the job in the next day or two) or have to detour via Rio Negro.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND:
Low tide in the morning makes Sta Teresa best bet.

JACO & HERMOSA

(2) From Tommy at Hotel Fuego del Sol in Hermosa - (5/28) www.fuegodelsol.com/page3.html
Big hello from Playa Hermosa! We have solid surf! We have a South swell today coming in at four to six feet at select beaches. We have a high tide at around 12PM. Pura Vida!!!

(3) From Chuck - your friend in Costa Rica -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
head high, with the wind in the afternoon and the really high tides, it's been choppy, and mushy.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
It should stay about the same, maybe getting a little bigger after the weekend.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
Jaco has been lots of fun, if the swell gets bigger, go to the points.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
This month is the BIG Quicksilver International contest in Hermosa.

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO

From David at Escuela D'Amore in Manuel Antonio -

TIDES (for Puntarenas) – Mareas
** Full Moon - May 18th, New Moon - June 2nd **

High tide (Friday) – Marea alta (viernes)
8:32 a.m. @ 7.4 ft. – 226 cm.

Low tide – Marea baja
2:31 p.m. @ 2.2 ft. – 67 cm.

SWELL DIRECTION -- DIRECIÓN DEL SWELL

Pacific – The surf should be epic between 7 and 9 a.m. and then again right before dark, with waves two+ feet overhead and glassy. The swell will drop again by Monday and won't recover until next Thursday, but SW facing beaches should pick up any remnants. Rainshowers bring onshore conditions by 10:00 a.m.

Caribbean – This side is hot this weekend with a swell hitting from the Northeast and giving Bonita overhead surf. Southern beachbreaks will be chest to overhead until Tuesday. Be ready for lots of rain.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

(1) From Patti at Best Western Vista Villas in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
Surfing - early morning sessions as the storms and rain continue to move through the area. Surf between 5am -9:30am still holding with some offshore to variable winds. Ground swell in for a week, so sand has turned around little bit. Keep an eye on your favorite beach breaks for some new waves pitching.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
Rain in the afternoon with onshore winds. Solid pacific buildup with a New Zealand pulse coming in late next week. It's going to be big....As for the waves this weekend-shoulder high to head high at south breaks. A slight push from the west may bring up Playa Grande, Playa Avellanes and Playa Negra to headhigh. Surf it early.....

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
Playa Avellanes is still holding up and as the tides turn to low early morning over the weekend, it may be a good bet. Check out rivermouth Tamarindo for some glassy surf in the early mornings.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
Look for the RA Surf & Turf Packages at The Best Western Vista Villas. August 1st-August 8.

(2) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
The swell has been out of control here in front of the hotel for a week - up to double overhead. The early morning glass offs are not enough to clean it up. Yesterday we actually had an hour of off shores and it cleaned up as the tide dropped. The high tide is early in the morning and in the evening so we are slipping up to chicken head rock and down to the estero for some great head high surf for two sessions a day. Every day the swell seems to shape up a little as the swell drops.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
With high tide in the morning and the swell cleaning up we're looking for some good glassy morning sessions. So far the mellow weather is cooperating, but there is always the possibility of nasty weather at this time of the year which will blow out our delicate surf situation here in Playa Grande.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
We are going to check in front of the hotel on Friday and then slip north or south into the bay if its not clean or too big.

3) From Steve at Tropico Latinos in Santa Teresa -

LOCAL WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
The bad weather is starting to move North - taking the swell with it. This morning the beachbreaks were around head high with some W in the swell and glassed off in classic rainy season style mid morning.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:
Weather has been a factor so far this month - it's been a wet May with a lot of rain around dawn - not good for the surf: Hopefully it will start to improve this weekend and we will have cleaner conditions.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA THIS WEEKEND:
Beachbreaks - Playa Carmen should be favourite.

(4) From Cafe de Paris in Playa Nosara -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
We have really big waves from 3 days. 8-10 feet. If you like that, you are welcome !!!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
And normally it will stay like that two or three more days.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

(1) From Patti at Best Western Vista Villas in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
Waisthigh to headhigh surf showing as of late Thursday. Storm pressure moving through and then a south pulse on Friday followed by ground swell on Sunday. Headhigh (5+ -8+) at most breaks south facing. Onshore midday.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
Shoulderhigh to overhead at all south break. Storm movement over the weekend bringing in some onshore winds with it. By Sat. should improve.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
Check out Playa Langosta mid morning - headhigh***Playa Grande around 1:00pm with overhead conditions***Playa Avellanes morning low tide - +4 - +7. Watch the ditches - we've had rain and some of them are getting full.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
We've got the RA Legends happening in Tamarindo July 28th - August 5th and then on to the Rabbit....Big party in Tamarindo Saturday night with the Leatherbacks. Check it out at Best Western Vista Villas....

(2) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
The surf has been big and tricky this week with one outstanding overhead smooth session at the Playa Grande side of the Tamarindo Estuary at high tide on the one day last week the wind blew off shore into mid day. The rest of the days have had a descent hour here and there but you really had to be on it to catch a few good ones. The afternoon rains (that's right rain) have been coming too late to smooth it off in time for the tide to be right. I have been tucking deep into the bay in search of smoother waves, but have had to settle for less power. Some broken boards out front mostly because of the sectioning thick unpredictable set waves.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
The swell dropped on Thurs. and tomorrow we can sample the dawn patrol. It looked messy on Thurs. morn. and I'm not expecting any miracles but you never know with dawn patrol. Over the weekend and in to next week the morning window will get longer as we go into morning surf near the end next week and a much higher probability for a great session.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
We'll try out front tomorrow and then slip deeper into the bay as this swell jumps over the weekend.

(3) From Steve at Tropico Latinos in Santa Teresa -

LOCAL WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

Much cleaner than it's been over the last few days today - even a touch of offshore! It's chest to shoulder at Playa Carmen right now, SW, fun lefts and rights.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:

Surf should continue to clean up as the bad weather moves North. Hoping for a S swell to follow it in and a good w/e for goofy footers.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND:

If there's enough S in the swell check reefs a.m. and point p.m., Sta Teresa should be good in the a.m. with the tide sucking out, Carmen on the incoming tide in the afternoon, wind permitting.

Pacific – Take a break this weekend, the swell periods lenghten out and the swell drops until Tuesday when a new swell arrives bringing some 9+ faces by Thursday. It should change to more of a south swell, so drive south by next Thursday and sit on it.

Caribbean – Time to head to the Pacific. The Caribean will be small this weekend, waves waist? maybe? Some spots better, but nothing comparable.
AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

(1) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: This swell has been running for several days and has been a little too large and junky for our area. Even steady offshores in the morning have failed to clean it up enough to take the spook out of it. Some of the sets are running double overhead and we've seen some broken boards.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): The swell seems to be settling down now and if it will drop a foot or two with the morning tides we should have a shot at a good morning session or two this weekend.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: We've been slipping down to the Playa Grade side of the Tamarindo River mouth and catching some excellent sessions. If it drops, which it seems to be doing, the area in front of the hotel should be promising.

JACO & HERMOSA

(2) From Tommy at Hotel Fuego del Sol in Hermosa - www.fuegodelsol.com/page3.html Pura Vida!!!

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO
(3) From David at Escuela de Amore in Manuel Antonio -

Pacific – A nice big week is in store for you! Big tides plus SW swell equals 8-10 faces at Nicoya beaches and points further south. Not enough south for way down south, but also expect shorter periods and waits between sets by Monday.

Caribbean – The right coast will be hit with a powerful ESE swell that will bring lots of rain and surf. Well overhead from Puerto Viejo to Playa Bonita from Saturday until next Tuesday.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

(1) From Patti at Best Western Vista Villas in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
It's been a slow week for surf, with Playa Langosta and Playa Avellanes picking up some of the surf. Onshore and variable winds on the waves throughout the day. WAM shows, some ocean swell on it's way up and we should see it by late Friday. Dawn Patrol is the best bet for surf as the high tide starts turning early morning.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
By late Fri. waves should be coming up from the southwest. Should come in at the headhigh range at most beach breaks and outside reef points at 7'-9' or two to four overhead. Winds, onshores coming in early. Get out early. Slight chance of rain over the weekend.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
Playa Langosta - am and high tide/ Playa Grande - early/ Playa Avellanes low tide.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
The information on the Rabbit is out. Check it out on : www.toesonthenose.com. Tamarindo will also be doing a Legends event the first of August. Stay tuned. any interesting new in your area - let me know at surfpati@racsa.co.cr Tico Times column twice a month for all of us surfers.

(2) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
The swell has been running overhead at just the right size for weeks. We've been killing it especially last week when the high tide was in the morning and the wind blew off shore for several days in a row and strong in the morning. The swell is tipically jumping up and down daily. Thursday it was a little smaller, but still overhead. Monday out going tide, after everybody went home was insane with powerful creasing, glassy conditions. Lots of genuine tube rides.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
The tides are moving into the dawn patrol time slot with Sat. having about an hour and a half window if it doesn't get too big. The off shores are hanging around at least until mid morning but could switch to on shore conditions any day now which will mean early morning surf only.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
The sand bars are excellent in front of the hotel and the Playa Grande side of the Tamarindo rivermouth has had some excellent form lately.

JACO & HERMOSA

(3) From Chuck at Chosita del Surf in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
It's me again for the Jaco report ! Once again 2-4 ft semi-choppy in the p.m. , wind trying to back off and seems like it wants to rain !

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
My guess at least thru sat. is small fun rideable Jaco , good tides for Sat. and Sun.! WE LIKE HIGH TIDE !

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
Early a.m. sessions at Hermosa and the P.M. sessions are right out front !

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
Diego is in california competing in a couple of junior pro events , trying to stretch his wings etc. ! After a long wait the shop just recieved a new batch of THE REALM CLOTHING and ERIE surfboards! It wont all fit in the store but we are trying !! HAH HAH , Jaco also has mellowed out a bit the weekend should be relatively uncrowded and back to normal after the last 2 weeks of CRAZINESS !!!!~~!!!!(4) From Tommy at Hotel Fuego del Sol in Hermosa - Big hello from Playa Hermosa! We have a south swell today coming in at a solid four to six feet at select beaches. We have a low tide at around 7pm. Check the cam at the top of each hour for the live footage, it's still good. www.fuegodelsol.com/page3.html Pura Vida!!!

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO

From David at Escuela de Amore in Manuel Antonio - (4/28)

The tides are in the late morning and with a little luck the morning off shores we have enjoyed this week will continue to fan the faces. The sand bars are building and getting better right now.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
We are surfing in front of the hotel up to about head high and a half and then moving down to Baulas for clean shape after that, and then to the river mouth if it gets big enough. Chicken head rock was good last week for one session.

(3) From Steve at Tropico Latino in Santa Teresa -

LOCAL WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
A powerful SW swell has been running for the last few days, the swell has been very square on so plenty of close outs, however the dry season sandbars have still produced some good ones. Swell has dropped this morning, but sets are still well overhead on take off. Weather has been more changeable as we enter the transition from wet to dry.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:
If the swell continues to drop, there should be fun head - shoulder conditions in the a.m. at the beachbreaks.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN THE AREA THIS WEEKEND:
Playa Carmen should be best for the morning session on the incoming tide - it's advisable to get up early - onshores can start early at this time of year.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

(1) From Patti at Best Western Vista Villas in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
It's been light surf throughout the week, however as of late Thursday, the swell line is starting to show from the southwest with some fun sets coming in at high tide. Current conditions: Waist to shoulder high and some light offshore winds.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
Looking for an increase from the west/southwest to bring in some headhigh surf at southwest facing breaks. Winds, offshore with a possible onshore flow as the swell comes up late Friday.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
All beaches are packed so best bets: Playa Negra Dawn patrol ***Playa Grande lots of swimmers at the break, try dawn patrol or right before sunset*** Witch's and Oli's - best day Sunday and Monday.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:

(2) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
Tues. was one of the most amazing surf days I've seen at Playa Grande in some time. The wind was off shore all day long and very light at times. The swell was well overhead and perfect- a penchant of afternoon surf when the wind holds. There was some backwash at dead high tide, but hardly noticible on most of the good sets. I got my best rides in front of the hotel on the tourquois right barrels that put you under the lip or deeper on almost every ride. The crowd was working the abundant peaks at the main break and was too busy to notice what a small group of us were doing nearby.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
The tides are moving into the early morning slot and should be excellent conditions for our area.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
Try daybreak in front of the hotel.

(3) From Hotel Cafe de Paris in Nosara -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
GREAT WAVES ALL THESE DAYS .OVER HEAD AND GLASSY IN THE MORNING. HOPE IS NOT RAINING TOO MUCH TO CHANGE THE CONDITIONS.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
IT WAS RAINING THE AFTERNOON THIS TWO LAST DAYS. TODAY SUNNY DAY. HOPE IS FOLLOWING LIKE THAT.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
THE TRADITIONAL PALM TREE IN GUIONES BEACH. IN HIGH TIDE PLAYA PELADA WITH HIS RIGHT IS NOT SO BAD.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
CONCERT AT CAFE DE PARIS THURSDAY. FREE ENRANCE! COME AND ENJOY WITH US.

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO

(5) From David at Escuela D'Amore in Manuel Antonio -
