Low Tide - 2.36 ft at 5:56 AM
High Tide - 7.3 ft at 12:08 PM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - A nice sized SW swell will hit Saturday
morning, peak out Sunday, and diminish by Monday back
down to head high conditions. Morning low tides mixed
with offshores bring barrels. Check the point breaks
this weekend. There might be some funk thrown in by
hurricane Julliet, so watch for peaks and double up
closeouts.

Caribbean - Copied and pasted from last week ---
nothing coming in for the right coast, perfect for
crystal blue waters and scuba diving or snorkeling.
Afternoon showers daily, but no waves. Maybe a waist
to chest high wave showing Friday afternoon.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Louis at Las Tortugas Lodge in Playa Grande-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas
y condiciones:
The waves have been waist- to chest-high at high tide.
Bigger sets are coming through, but they require a bit
of a wait. Overall, we are having fun and fast surf at
Playa Grande.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que
va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas):
The surf should remain fun at Playa Grande--as long as
the winds stays favorable. The past week has had some
great mornings of surf, and with the
better-than-average rainy season weather, it looks
like it will continue into the next week.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El
mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area:
The main peak, about fifty meters south of the beach
entrance, has been consistent. The rainy season has
brought surprisingly good weather and drained the main
peak of nearly all crowds. Plenty of waves for
everyone!

2) From Steve at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa
(north of Mal Pais):

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
We've had several days of clean surf in the shoulder
high range with plenty of West. It's a bit more
disorganised this morning and the swell is still
small.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:
Looks like it's going to get considerably bigger with
swell direction switching more to the SW. if the
weather stays fine there could be some good waves.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA:
Sta Teresa will be the spot to check first in the
morning.

4) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

The waves in upper Hermosa were about waist to chest
high and clean this morning. The swell seemed to be
coming more out of the west, today. That would mean
Corners was fun this morning as the tide came in.

tide is around 11:00AM this morning. Our in house pros

expected from the tropical system unless you head to
Mexico, where it is firing. By Monday the SW swell
fades to fun chest to head high peaks until next
Thursday. Beachbreaks working at high tide will be
most fun early and late in the day.

Caribbean - Not anything coming in for the right
coast, perfect for crystal blue waters and scuba
diving or snorkeling. Afternoon showers daily, but no
waves until next week's report.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Louis at Las Tortugas Lodge in Playa Grande-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas
y condiciones:

There has been some juice pumping into Playa Grande.
The past week has not seen waves less than chest- to
head-high, with bigger sets. The waves have been
pretty bumpy, however, and not terribly clean.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que
va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas):

If you want to surf, there will be surf. Even better,
the crowds will be minimal. You'll have good-sized
waves but it will continue to be pretty shifty, with
peaks all over the beach. Early mornings and evening
sessions will be best.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -
El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su
area:

The Main Peak at Playa Grande always has something to
offer. Even in the mid-day wind-chop sessions, fun
peaks have been coming through, yielding fun rewards
for patient surfers.

2) From Steve at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa
(north of Mal Pais):

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS.

Really fun conditions in the 1st part of the week with
beachbreaks working well, 2 - 5' and glassy all day -
with some W mixed in there. We are now being affected
by a tropical depression and the waves are a little
more untidy, though still rideable. Lots of rain.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:

Perhaps a little bigger, similar direction. Conditions
are hard to predict at this time of year as the rains
reach their peak.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA THIS WEEKEND:

Playa Carmen, other beachbreaks

JACO & HERMOSA

2) From Chuck at Chosita del Surf in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas
y condiciones:

Okay. Guess what I didnt even surf today ! Waves were
windy, choppy and 3-4 ft faces ? Tropical system in
the neighborhood so at least we are getting some much
needed RAIN !

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que
va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas):

Remember, there are always waves in Jaco if you are
HUNGRY enough !

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El
mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area:

See you in front of the COPA for the Sat. P.M. surf
and good luck to the guys surfing in the Natl. circuit
contest at ARENAL PACIFIC , should be a good contest
and it is important that we back this ! Be there or B2
, got it !

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:

Jaco the land of surf competition , results from last

3) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

The waves are still on the small side, waist to chest
high in Upper Hermosa. The wind came on it early,
around 7. With low tide being around 10:45AM and
onshore wind, it´s not the optimum conditions, but the
swell is kinda peaky so it could be fun. When the tide
starts back in and if the wind dies, it might get
really fun this afternoon. Our in house pros are
Dennis Christopher and Tobit McLean. They have started
their summer surf clinics so, call Tobit for details
and info 506 643 2078 or e-mail him at

DOMINICAL & SOUTHERN PACIFIC

4) From the director of AEC Spanish School in
Dominical:

Surfed chest to head high slop at peak high tide, 10
foot +. A few said it was great in the morning with
the tide sucking out and the peaks barreling overhead.
Right before dark it looked like it was setting up
with head high surf outside and clean waist high
peelers on the inside. Winds were on it by 9 a.m, but
stayed light. Expecting great early morning surf at
the beachbreak in the head high + range all weekend
with offshore and a.m. high tides.

TIDES *for Friday

Low Tide 1.61 ft at 5:14 AM
High Tide 8.12 ft at 11:41 AM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The south swells that have rounded New
Zealand last week are now showing up on the coast with
1 to 2 foot overhead sets, peaky sections due to mixed
swells and short periods (12 seconds). By Sunday
afternoon things should drop down to head high and
stay that way for Monday and Tuesday. Then by next
Wed., a longer period 16 second swell puts the height
back up to 2+ overhead faces. Daily rain down south.

Caribbean - Go over to the Pacific. Expect nothing
more than waist high, unless a mid to high tide push
makes the beachbreaks enjoyable with an occasional
chest high set. Mid morning or late in the day is the
best call.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Louis at Las Tortugas Lodge in Playa Grande-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas
y condiciones:
The waves have been from chest to head with some
slightly overhead sets, but a stiff sideshore wind has
created pretty messy conditions. The early mornings
have been best, with the wind picking up mid-morning
and remanining the rest of the day.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que
va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas):

The rains are finally beginning to hit Playa Grande
with consistency. There is definitely some swell out
there, but the weather has been inhibiting great waves
from forming. The mornings will probably remain fun
and sizable, with rain and wind arriving in the
afternoons.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El

3) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

Thursday, September 13, 2001 6:00 PM

The SW pulse continued to show bigger surf today.
Tulin was overhead but the wind was on it early. The
Rancho Coral surf camp crew headed back to Esterillos
and scored overhead surf with a steady onshore breeze.
Later in the afternoon we headed to Terraza for low
tide, although it had size, the wind and runouts made
it difficult. Low tide this afternoon was at 5:00PM.

4) From the director of AEC Spanish School in

It was bigger and hairy this Thursday. The swell
filled in with head high to 3 foot overhead faces
which had short rides at the beachbreak. The point was
not working at low tide and early morning rain made
the water look like cafe con leche. Hoping for a nice
offshore going to high tide session on Friday, and
then look for a lower tide spot this weekend.
