This swell sticks around through Wednesday, and Thursday it drops only a foot with stick a few mackin sets. Friday is the same, but by Saturday morning the waves pick up 2 feet, as another SSW swell fills in with waves 2 to 3 foot overhead at south facing beaches. (A foot smaller north of Mal Pais) BE ON THE ALERT FOR FLOODING AT HIGH TIDES !!

Caribbean - It's too quiet Monday morning, but by evening a few chest high wave file in from Hurricane Felix. It grows overnight, welcoming dawn patrollers with overhead surf and getting bigger throughout Tuesday. By midday it's 2-3 foot overhead and firing, but accompanied by wind and rain. Wednesday it's still rainy, but the surf is more managable at head high. Thursday is back to small, knee to waist surf. BE ALERT FOR FLOODING !!

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (9/1) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: We're riding overhead, messy, morning surf right now. With the morning off shore breezes, it's close to being good. The weather is tricky now that we are entering the heart of our rainy season. The hard cores are enjoying uncrowded conditions. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell is growing. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: As the swell grows we'll tuck down in the bay to the Tamarindo Estero. The service road is torn up right now so it takes about ten minutes.

** From Colin at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (9/1)

Today we were busy cataloging the new shipment of WRSC surfboards that just arrived yesterday. Meanwhile, the surf picked up a couple feet just in front of our hotel bringing some head high waves on the bigger sets. We got back just about sunset and the waves looked great with nice glassy conditions and partly cloudy skies.

And from Friday.. The surf was chest to shoulder high in front of the camp early, but the dropping tide made Avellanas the best choice. So, we brought our graduating class to test their skills. It was a beautiful sunny day with a few scattered clouds coming in the evening making for a gorgeous sunset. The report from Witch's Rock was head high A-frame peaks breaking left and right with glassy conditions. Ollies Point was a bit smaller in the waist to chest high range breaking on the inside sandbar for some fun longboarding.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (9/1)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The waves have been headhigh to a couple feet overhead on the sets. Fair to poor shape as all the rain has taken the sand from the beach and put it on the reef. Water temp is in the mid 80s. Lots of rain this past week makes the roads very bad.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): More of the same. Lots of storms downunder has cranked out swells lining up for us at Playa Negra for this upcoming week. Maybe a little less rain but watch for TS Felix as he moves up the Caribbean. We may get rain from this storm by midweek.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: High tide in the mornings means check out Playa Negra or Avellanas if you are close by. Be careful if you drive. The roads are a mess.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: If you can't get here, check it out at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (8/31)

Good Morning it is in Nosara, with light offshores and clean waves! Been a while since it has really been clean, but we have a session this morning. Sets are in the Chest to possibly Head high range. Today is the bottoming out day in between swells... and we have a macker on the way (according to the forecasts that keep blowing it!), 6.5 ft at 16 seconds at 215, which means that it is final a good SW, and Guiones should feel it.

** From Steve at Coconut Harrys Surf Shop in Playa Guiones (9/1) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: 3-4 feet cleaner conditions and fun.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The weather was nice most of the day Friday with fun waves in the afternoon. Saturday morning the weather is sunny so far cleaner head high surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Playa Guiones is catching the most of the swell. Waves should be picking up Sunday, Monday, Tuesday with new swell on the way.

** From Hotel Buenisimo in Santa Teresa (Mal Pais) - (9/1)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Strong tropical storm with high winds brought big waves but nasty conditions.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): No end in sight.

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Nice waves here in Jaco, head high to overhead on sets , sw direction and kind of juicy, high tide proved to be what we expect of it for sure! Rode a WEBBER Afterburner 6'2" off the rental rack and it goes so fast I thought I was somebody else !!! Surf should stay fun thru the weekend, may start to close out though if this swell cleans up then its off to spot X on Monday! Rain expected for the weekend so its hit or miss on the sun factor for sure! Happy Surfing from Chuck and the CREW at W.O.W. SURF !

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical (9/1)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Overhead with an occasional double are gracing the beach at Dominical. However, they are very peaky and too soft at high tide. So, the best tide is mid-tide. The wind has been good until about 8:00 am and then in the afternoons after about 3:00 pm.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND: The swell should be growing through next week with very nice waves arriving on Tuesday or Wednesday. There is a big storm off of Peru that should be sending even bigger waves after that...who knows.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: The beach is working particularly well. The waves are very peaky and it is easy to paddle out and catch lots of shoulders. Don't expect long rides unless you're on a long board.
