NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - SSW swell arrives Monday with a 14 second period, breaking 1-2 foot overhead. Peaks Tuesday morning with the midmorning push, 2-3 foot overhead with macker sets. Wednesday it starts to drop, with sets coming farther apart and maxing at 2 foot overhead. Thursday and Friday are smaller, overhead at most spots that face south. Then it's head high to overhead for Saturday and Sunday morning. By Sunday evening another SSW swell arrives with a 1-2 foot overhead set showing each 30 minutes. That swell lasts another four days.

Caribbean - Tiny surf this week. Flat until Wednesday, and then it's only knee with a rare waist high set. Same for Thursday through Saturday. Better for snorkeling than surfing.

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (8/25) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: After a sketchy week, Saturday is offshore ahd overhead with some excellent sets in between the funky ones.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Don't expect much as the tides move into the afternoon and the offshores become dependent on rain squalls. The swell is holding.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Tamrindo estero mouth has been pretty productive with the bigger swells we are seeing now.

** From Colin at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (8/20)

We have Marcos Conde visiting us from the International Surfing Association to work with all our instructors and coaches to help improve the surf school program here at Witch's Rock Surf Camp.

Marcos was the chief trainer for the Brazilian National Team for many years and has been working with the Tahitian National Surf Team and the Costa Rican National Team to prepare them for international competition. We are proud to host Marcos and support the ISA and the Costa Rican Surfing Federations goal to develop surfing instruction standards and protocols in Costa Rica and around the globe.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (8/18)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf has picked up with a very steep south swell moving in for the weekend. Some double overhead waves on the mid tides. Sunny in the mornings and raining in the afternoon. Water temp in the mid 80s.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Check out those south facing beaches on the incoming tide for some big waves.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: There has been a bit of morning sickness early at Playa Negra. With high tide in the mornings now, check out Negra early and then head to Avellanas and bang rails with the masses.

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (8/26)

I don't get this... it seems like we just can't get a day to line up just right... we have the waves, and the tides now, but not the winds, I guess i should just go with it and start worrying about perfect surf in December. Surf this morning looks pretty fun, it is in the head high range, with some larger sets... we are at about a dead low right now at 630AM, and waves are breaking top to bottom... which may be the redeeming factor this morning, as I saw a few nice little pits, that were makeable. Anyways, it is probably worth surfing, could lock into a good one to talk about for a few days.

** From Hotel Buenisimo in Santa Teresa (Mal Pais) - (8/25)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Chest high, some overhead. Wind/rain in the afternoon

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): May be able to catch some clean waves in the mornings

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Playa Carmen or Playa Santa Teresa

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical (8/25)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: The waves have been shoulder to head high with low tides being the best. High tides are almost unsurfable because of the small waves. However, the low tide waves have had, at times, some great and fun shoulders, little tubes and have been surfed without much effort.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): By Sunday we expect some big waves, and if the forecasts mean anything, by Tuesday we should all be at the point or down south. We've got a BIG swell coming.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: The beach will be best through Sunday morning, then either the beach or the point through Monday morning. Then probably only the point from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. Have fun!
