NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The combo NW swinging around to WSW swell pegs the coasts with surf a foot overhead for Monday and Tuesday, fading to overhead Wednesday and Thursday. Check out the reefs and point since low tide is early morning, and the wind is switching onshore due to the rainy season kicking in. Friday the first 2-3 foot overhead sets file in from a SSSW swell brewing by Peru. Saturday it strikes - 1-2 foot overhead surf for the south, overhead surf up north - sticking around through at least Thursday of the following week since it's backed by another fetch from the SW.

Caribbean - Wake up Monday to clean chest high surf with a few sneaker head high sets. The sets fade out by Tuesday afternoon, leaving waist to chest surf Wednesday. Waist to stomach high for Thursday and Friday and Saturday it's back to chest high from another East swell.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 4/29 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The off shores and steady swell combined this week for great surf in the perfect, just overhead, Playa Grande range. There are mackers working very well in the one and a half to double overhead size here and there. The sand has been shifting lately and is curently less than perfect.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The new swell is a little raw and tricky. If the wind holds into the afternoon it should be well overhead and good.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The whole bay is lighting up with good reports from Tamarindo . The rock at the north end of the bay has been perfect for long boarders.

** From Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (4/29)

My face is so sunburned that it feels like its about to peel off. Translation: surf is firing. Yesterday the swell hit as expected, and we are blessed with raging offshore winds that are making waves absolutely perfect. When I was walking down to the rivermouth here in Avellanas I thought it was already blown out, but instead was offshore and perfect. Then the tide filled in and Palo Seco was throwing out little barrels and clean, fast lefts and rights. The wind switched about 1230pm so we took off for Tamarindo to eat.
The surf in front of the camp was even bigger than Avellanas and even better, with hollow barrels everywhere as the wind was again howling offshore. Its a west swell and just firing. I was driving by Pico Grande with Rich and caught a perfect barreling wave breaking across the bay. I looked at Rich to point it out, saying "holy crap what a nice wave" and then some guy pulls out of the barrel! I couldn't believe it, that guy must have had a two second tube ride. As I sat at the camp totally sunburned and unable to paddle back out the surf was just going off all afternoon.
This morning I checked it at about 8am and its even bigger. The wind is howling offshore. I'm burned but can't help myself, its better than its been for a few weeks. Get out there and get some of these waves!

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:The last couple days have been great. Head high with light offshores and the swell direction is perfect for Playa Negra. Lucky for those who got up early. Look for smaller surf for the next few days. With mid tide going high happening early for the next few days, the early bird might get the waves.

** From Steve at Coconut Harrys Surf Shop in Playa Guiones - (4/28)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The waves have been 2-4 ft with overhead sets. It's been real fun in the mornings before 10:00 a.m when the wind usually turns. The evenings have been glassing off for some pura vida sunset surf sessions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): This weekend we should see the waves building today and peaking tomorrow to the 5-6 ft range. The swell is coming off the coast of South America and should give Playa Guiones some juice over the next couple of days. We hope!!
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Most of the main breaks in the area ( Guiones, Camaronal, Marbella , andOstional) will benefit from this swell.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:
There is a big end of the high season party tonight at the Tierra Magnifica on the hills of Playa Nosara. The whole town should be there so if your in the area and need directions stop at Coconut Harry's and ask for Steve. Adios for now...

** From Devad at Devad Productions Photography in Playa Hermosa - (4/29)

UP IN SIZE AND POWER FROM YESTERDAY. STRONGER S/W ,LONG UNDULATED AND BUMPED UP MORNING SICKNESS. STILL GOOD SECTIONS TO BE HAD UNTIL THE ARRIVAL OF AN EARLY ONSHORE BREEZE. CHEST,HEAD AND + SETS. INTERNET FORECAST- SHOULD BE UP ANOTHER LEVEL OF SIZE AND POWER SUNDAY, 4-6 FT S/W + SETS. DO IT EARLY FOR BEST CONDITIONS

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical - (4/29)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Shoulder high and peaky. Better at mid-tide. They are coming from the far south so the shape is good.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): By Tuesday we should have some overhead waves of the same basic characteristics.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: It looks like the best rides are being picked up in front of Coco's. However, it could be one of those "grass is greener" thingys as I'm always up by the river mouth.
