Costa Rica's Weekly Surf Report
Volume 8, Issue 326
March 24th, 2006

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Saturday is still small, with a freak head high set from a long range south swell coming in. Sunday will be back to consistent chest high with head high sets and next Monday through Wednesday gets a foot bigger - overhead at the south facing beachbreaks. Looking past that, back to head high for a few days and in 20 days the first monster SW.

Caribbean - Waist to chest Saturday morning, staying clean and consistent through Sunday. Then on Monday some overhead waves arrive from the north and pick up frequency throughout the day. On Tuesday the sets come in every 20 minutes and Wednesday it grows another foot, switching from the North to the East. Thursday and Friday look big, 1-3 foot overhead peaks from the ESE staying big through next weekend.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 3/24)

** From John Lyman Photography in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf has been great these past few days. Well overhead on the sets with offshores in the mornings and glassoffs in the afternoons.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Expect overhead sets this weekend. This swell is really south so there are some fast walls on the main peak at Negra. Pick the right wave and it's a muy rapido ride. The weather will be perfect.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: We have low tide in the mornings all this upcoming week with the new moon on Wednesday and that means really low tides in the morning. negra might be a little rocky in the mornings. If you are not into a rock dance, check out Avellanas rivermouth or Little H.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Lyman shoots. Get shot. Bang! http://tamarindobeach.net/photos_lyman/index.html

** From Stephen at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: On shore most of the day with a little remaining cloud cover. Small, 2 feet at most, early morning before the onshores begin is the key. Across the river to Grande has been fun to get away from the crowds.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Supposedly a swell in the making, not expecting much more than 3 feet though. Winds may pick up by Sunday, but those early morning and sunset sessions should prove fruitful.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: I' m heading to Nosara yet again, open beach and should see some fun 3/4 footers. Negra should be a great spot as well.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:
Tranquilo weekend to recuperate after the Spring Break crowd.

** From Jesse at Samara Surf School -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: There is swell!! some 5 to 6 foot waves, good form. Some fast peaks with long rides. Nice offshore winds in the mornings, warm water and nice waves. The waves were huge two weeks ago, some double over heads rolled in, then it was flat last week. So I had nothing to report!
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell is expected to hold as the new moon is on the 29th. If the swell keeps up the waves could get much bigger, maybe up to 8 feet. Mostly big swells just come in as close outs here in the Samara bay, but the insiders of 6 feet are generally good form. The sky is clouding up early this year, making for some choppy conditions already.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Best break, less crowds and farther offshore always infront of the "Las Brisas del pacifico" Hotel.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Samara doesn't change that much, the biggest thing about to hit is "Semana Santa" in years past the beaches were packed, not enough room to ride your bike in a straight line. This time of year generally brings big waves and a fun carnival in the center of town. Come one, come all and visit us at www.samarasurfschool.com, PURA VIDA

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Playa Nosara -

Consistant headhigh surf and great shape. Winds have stayed off-shore
or light on-shore most of the mornings.

** From Chuck at Walking On Water Surf Shop in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Okay summer is still here , clean glassy fast walls in Jaco water is so clean you can see your shadow on the bottom but its only waist to belly high today , The world is here ,lots of people and plenty of waves at most of our beaches so no reason not to come ! Anyone interested in a 2 bedroom 2 bath house on a small lot with security and pool access with plenty of green areas ? How about for under 100K and 200 yards to fun surf ? Let me know I think we have a great deal to offer ! Thanks Chuck and the crew at W.O.W. surf !

** From Brice at Land Assurance Tree Reforestation in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Great waves even though a bit small have been blessing us here at Dominical. They are from shoulder to head high with good shape. More lefts than rights but enough of both for everyone.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): Looks like the same through Sunday and then possibly a bit more size on Sunday or Monday.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: The entire beach is going off with peaky waves but the current and river water are running northwest and causing a strong offshore push at the river mouth. So, if you surf from the river mouth to the 3 flags, you will spend a good bit of time trying to stay inside.
