NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The mackin SW with an 18 second period has arrived to
bring 2-4 foot overhead surf for the rest of the weekend. With it
comes lots of rain, so get on it early an hour before high tide. By
Monday it drops off two feet, and by Tuesday it's down to head high
with a freak overhead sets from the WNW. By Friday another South
swell shows up bringing 1 foot overhead surf with a long 17 second
period. The sets get more frequent next Saturday, but overall the
swell is short lived. By next Tuesday, some NW swell fills in the
Guanacaste coast with more overhead waves.

Caribbean - It's Carnival on the Caribbean coast. Check out Limon -
the parties, the drinks, the bands, and the dancing. No surf though
expected, although hurricanes are known to sprout off the coast in
October.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 10/7)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
The surf tried to clean up this week and then we got hit by more
rough conditions on Friday.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
tides are moving into the morning slot. If it clears, we'll have it
all to ourselves.

** From Travis at Witchs Rick Surf Camp in Tamarindo -
Big Waves. On shore. Look for more of the same tomorrow but high
tide is shifting to allow for calmer conditions first thing in the
morning. Pray for glass!!! Travis Call- WRSC Positive Vibe Technician

** From John Lyman Photos at Pablo's Picasso with the Playa Negra
surf report:
The surf has been headhigh to a few feet overhead and real wishy
washy. Partly sunny in the mornings, off and on rainy in the
afternoons. This morning was less windy and there were some guys
getting some fun waves.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It's suppose to pick up over the
weekend and if the wind backs down a bit Playa Negra could be the
call. It's high tide at dawn on Sat. & Sunday so check it early for
less wind and no people.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: With over a 9 foot high tide
at around 6 in the morning, check out the rivermouth at Langosta,
the beachbreak at Avellanas or the main peak at Negra.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: IT'S COSTA
RICA CALENDAR TIME AGAIN! If you aren't lucky enough to live here,
once again we are producing photo calendars for 2006. You can view
the azure ocean, warm waves, killer surfing and the vivid sunsets of
Costa Rica everyday for 13 months. Photo Tamarindo again presents
the photography of John Lyman Photos in three beautiful full color
calendars: Surfing Costa Rica's Secret Spots, The Sunsets of Costa
Rica and the 2006 edition of the ever popular The Waves of Costa
Rica. Each calendar is 8-1/2" x 11" and runs 13 months. Check them
out and place your order at
http://tamarindobeach.net/photos_lyman/index.html

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -
The swell has backed down, but there are still some bigger waves
rolling in, 4 feet waves, good form. Off shore winds, before the
rain storms, but mostly choppy conditions. 5 to 6 foot close outs on
the outside.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is expected to be coming
in, bringing 4 to 6 foot waves, nice form. For the weekend we have 4
foot waves, soft peaks, great for intermediate surfers. Good time to
practice up on your skills. Perfect conditions for beginners for
whitewater. Choppy conditions with rain.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
The best surfing spot in Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas
Del Pacifico hotel. No crowds or localism, with a nice clean perfect
wave. LONG RIDES THIS WEEK!
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: The conditions
in Samara are perfect for beginners right now, so if you've always
wanted to learn surfing come on down or over! If you love
longboarding and want calm conditions it's perfect now! Pura Vida

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -
BUENO? Waves havent really been like we like em but still not bad
Out front headhigh with some vicous currents from the south and lots
of rain water so the temperature is so un Costa Rica. Got a couple
of fast if short walls in the a.m. and then blew off the afternoon
for work and slop reasons . Hope to see a bigger session tomorrow
morning ? weather has been WET but what can we expect from October .
Tuanis , Chuck and the Crew at W.O.W. SURF !

** From Rancho Coral in Playa Esterillos -

** From Brice at Land Assurance Reforestation Services in Dominical -
The waves have been small for a week and are just now picking up.
The beach is closed out and the wind is onshore. Not the best
conditions to say the least. However, this morning the point was
working even if not too clean.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell is picking up but it is
difficult to say from what direction the waves are coming from.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
the best bet. Low tide rising is probably the best time.
