AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop (& Surf Lessons) in Tamarindo -

The north swell that started out the week has been steadily fading.
Early this week Pico Pequeno was breaking almost head high, the left
at Pico Grande was easily head high and long. The main beach break
was basically missing it, but the river mouth was throwing out small
right barrels.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The wind has been picking up, so
expect to paddle hard. Pico Grande and Pequeno still work on what's
left of the swell, especially at a mid tide. As the south pulse
picks up, maybe the beach break will come back to life.
beach break volvera a vivir.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: In Tamarindo, look for waves
at the river mouth and at Pico Pequeno. Check out Avellanas as the
south picks up.

** Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

This was an amazing week of surf. Classic Playa Grande conditions
with many days of just over head peaks and long fast walls. The
crowds came and went. There was good surf all up and down the bay
including Villa Baulas, Tamarindo, and Chicken Head Rock. I even had
a couple of hour long sessions with no one out on the peak. While
many of the spots like Witches were windy, Playa Grande was for the
most part clean, smooth, and sculpted. The sand is so good here we
are even catching some pretty good mid-tide surf.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The high tides are in the morning
and weak which is the formula for a high probability for good surf.
The sand is perfect for the possibility of 6 hour sessions. The
offshores are a given for this time of the year and our ring of
hills (unique to Playa Grande) should keep the unmanageable gusts
off us. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor
lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: If it's real small
every one and their rasta friends will be here and if it's too big
we're going to slip down to the Tamarindo River mouth and surf with
the crocodiles.

** Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - There has been waves for days on
end. These offshore winds, combined with a second NW swell that just
doesn't seem to ever die, has produced solid rights off the
Tamarindo Rivermouth. Surf has been at its best, it hasn't broken
like this for two years and the best news is that everyone is surfed
out. I've been watching waves from the camp go unridden all week
long!! After I got two back to back in/out barrels in front of the
estuary, I can personally say its the best I've seen it in a
LOOOOOOOONG time!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - The surf seems to
be sticking around and only getting better as this weekend a late
season SW swell should fill in, starting Sunday and increasing in
size through Monday/Tuesday. Expect only more waves to go around, as
everyone will probably be watching football.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - I won't say this too
much, but THE TAMARINDO RIVERMOUTH. Yes, its true. Maybe even better
than Witch's Rock right now, which doesn't happen all that often.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- No, the Chargers aren't in the Super Bowl.
Good news is you can visit us at www.witchsrocksurfcamp.com and
forget all about real life issues for a few days/weeks. Check us out
and call our 800-number for availability. Surfs Up! - joe

** From High Tide Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Langosta y Avellanas. Buena suerte!!!!!!

JACO & HERMOSA

** From Chuck at Chosita del Surf Shop in Jaco -

2-3 ft out front in Jaco today, great longboard conditions for sure!
Winds favorable till 10 then a switch to sideshore from the north.
Biz is good and the town is super busy. Thanks to my Friends Louis
Wilson from Las Tortugas [PLAYA GRANDE} and Julio and Rodolfo from
HIGH TIDE SURF SHOP for the BIENVENIDO last week in Guanacaste,
waves not great but had some fun little ones! Oh anybody at Playa
Negra giving any lessons in SURF ETIQUETTE? How can there only be 8
guys out in the water and have out of 6 waves had to share 4 of them
with a rider out front? Remember the rider deepest on the wave has
priority and especially if he is making his waves should be left
alone? Sometimes we all share a wave or 2 with our friends but the
best surfers don't snake other guys in the water, sure maybe they
don't need to and have the paddle ability to get there and on the
wave at the right time and the best sets seem to always come to them
but that's why time in the water counts. Be respectful and DON'T
DROP IN ON SURFERS ALREADY RIDING WAVES! Best bet is usually to only
ride your waves alone! Learn the little things about surfing as well
as the act of riding waves and no matter where you are from always
be a proud representative of your people! PURA VIDA and remember
SURFERS DON'T LET FRIENDS RIDE CHINA BOARDS! CHUCK AND THE CREW FROM
