TIDES *for Friday - add 50 min. each day after

Low Tide - .94 ft. at 6:55 AM
High Tide - 7.58 ft. at 1:14 PM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - This weekend will be the time to go east and get some good
surf while the west coast is left with chest to head high, clean
peaks, a foot smaller up around Tamarindo. The next swell arrives
slowly from the South. Tuesday you'll see a few overhead sets come
through and by Wednesday at dawn it will be consistent overhead. Add
another foot for Thursday, and mix it with a long range WNW swell. By
next weekend, surf should stay overhead and the tides will be great
for a double sesh.

Caribbean - You will not be sorry if you come to the right coast to
surf. This weekend, waves in the head high to overhead range, and by
Monday it jacks up another 2 feet. This ENE stays until Tuesday
afternoon. Wednesday is another overhead day and Thursday the swell
reintensifies, building to 2-3 foot overhead with bigger sets at the
best spots. The size then drops a foot by next weekend.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diane, the best surf instructor in Tamarindo -

It's small here in the Tamarindo bay which is nothing new. Mornings
are clean with light off-shore winds, but the rainy-season weather
pattern contines, and the wind is going on-shore between 9 and 9:30
AM. Clear skies, but on-shore winds. Is this El Nino? High tide
brings us waves of about 3 - 4 feet, but by that time the wind has
been on it for several hours.
Sera
El Nino? A la marea alta, hay olas de 3 o 4 pies, pero a esa hora el
viento es problematico.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
It's going to be sunny and gorgeous, but the surf is going to totally
depend on the wind. In the mornings when the wind is good, the tide
will be out, so it might be a good weekend to clean the house or do
some board repair!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Langosta is our only hope. There's not enough swell to break the
Tamarindo rivermouth at low tide, so if there are nice morning waves
nearby they will be in Langosta. Avellanas has some low tide breaks
for early mornings, too.
mananas tambien.

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

The swell has been slowly building for the last few days, but the
wind is eddying on this side of the cape and
keeping the well overhead surf in a slight funk, or even junky, at
the best tides.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
If the wind straightens out, it could be epic since the swell is a
good size for powerful, clean surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
The peaks in front of the hotel are lining up nicely.

** From Chuck at Chosita del Surf in Jaco -

Okay from Jaco 2-4 ft faces kind of funky bumpy with the midday winds
but still rideable !

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
medio dia entonces usted sabe! Midday high tide aint so great for us
Jaco locals and thats what we got so make the best of it !

TIDES *for Friday - add 50 min. each day after

High Tide - 9.26 ft. at 5:54 AM
Low Tide - (-0.75) ft. at 11:56 AM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - This weekend will see more surf in the chest to head high
range, with a few overhead sets coming from the SSW. This swell came
up from Peru, and is accompanied by another down south by Tahiti,
producing more waves per set. The swells die out Monday and by
Tuesday should be small up north, from waist to chest high, and chest
to head high in the central and southern zones. This trend continues
to the weekend, when another SSW swell should arrive. One nice thing
are the tides, with high tide at dawn and dusk providing two classic
beachbreak session daily.

Caribbean - Now is not the time for diving, there is surf!! Waves
head high to two foot overhead on some of the sets. Will get more
consistent by Sunday and for the rest of the week, the size should
remain the same. Time to check those reef breaks. Best to wake up
early, when the winds are non-existent.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diane, the best surf instructor in Tamarindo -

We had a one-day swell on Tuedsay of this week, but now we're back to
shore break, especially since the tides are so high. It's been
unusually cloudy for February and the winds have been going onshore
in the late morning.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
It should be interesting, seeing as the wind isn't behaving the way I
would have expected. Morning is definately the time to surf whether
we get more waves or not.
portando my raro. Definativamente la manana es el tiempo para
surfear, suban las olas o no.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Not much is going on in Tamarindo right now and the afternoons by the
estuary have more surfers than waves. It would be a great weekend to
strap the board on the car and go on a little trip!

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

The shoulder high, silky, glassy, dawn patrol on Thurs. was classic.
It was very fishy. A ten pound, jumping bonito practically landed in
my lap and I surfed over the top of a 5 foot bull shark in two feet
of clear water. Not for the squeamish. The window only lasted for a
little over an hour as the tide fell, then the wind switched to
onshore in the afternoon and blew out the afternoon session. The
evening glass off was ridable, but sloppy.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The high tides are moving into the morning with great wind conditions
and the windows are expanding every day. Great conditions for surfing
if the swell holds or jumps a little.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
The focus seems to be in front of the hotel right now.

reefs. We have west winds making for great offshores here. We are in
for a good Weekend! Look for tonight's session to be one of those
dreams are made of, PURA VIDA!!!! Costa Rica Extended Forecast- Sat
should see a Z-Lander heading in at 200-220 degrees for some fun six
foot surf but, not as much juice as last weekend's swell. We see this
one dying down Monday at two to three feet.

** From Chuck at Chosita del Surf in Jaco -

Chuck here ,fresh out of the water after a super fun longboard
session with clean 3-4 ft faces and decent shape, seems to be abit of
something new out there too ?

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Saturday morning looks good for the dawn patrol with some
head high glass, but the size drops again in the afternoon and on
Sunday. The next SWer arrives on Monday, with head high to overhead
waves for the southern and central coasts. Will be consistent all
through the week, but only chest high up north until next Wednesday,
when a WNW swell moves out over the Pacific and sends back some head
high juice for next weekend. Keep your eyes peeled for a the first
good South of the year, coming Monday the following week.

Caribbean - More good surf expected over the weekend, getting to 1-2
overhead at the beachbreaks and bigger at key locales. The ESE swell
strengthens Sunday pushing 3+ overhead surf to the reefs. Stays big
until Wednesday afternoon, the quickly fades, leaving chest high
clean waves for next weekend.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diane, the best surf instructor in Tamarindo -

Another week of small surf in the bay, waves up to waist high
breaking in fairly shallow water. Some mornings this week have had
less wind, but it always cranks up by the middle of the day. Anybody
remember how we had a spell like this last year at this time? Otra

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
Sunday could be our lucky day, as reports are predicting a bit of a
pick up Sunday and Monday. Don't expect any changes in the wind
patterns, though.
lunes. No espere grandes cambios en el viento.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
It looks like the swell direcion is shifty (as there is little swell
to speak of), so head for open beaches like Nosara and Avellanas.
Avellanas.

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

Thurs. the small small, perfect conditions we have been enjoying for
the last several weeks continued to produce in the head high range on
the good sets. The long waits were well worth the wind swept perfect
lefts and rights when they finally came. The water is still warm for
this time of the year and I am surfing the mid day
sessions without my light vest.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The high tide is moving into the afternoon, but we should be all
right with the off shores in the afternoon if our current conditions
hold which is what I expect. High tide is getting a little too full
for small surf now that the moon is pulling.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
There are small waves everywhere in the bay with the bigger sets
focusing in front of Las Tortugas Hotel during incoming tide.

JACO & HERMOSA

** From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

Local Climate: Sunny, Air Temp: 97f, Water Temp: 87f, Wave Height &

Low Tide: 04:50 AM / 2.05 ft It's great surf today! Barrels and long

** From Chuck at Chosita del Surf in Jaco -

Waves are 2/3 ft or so and tide are soooo bad for me here in jaco !
Hermosa is suffering from straight on swell so its pretty closed out
too ! Maybe a quick ride to Estirillos center is the call but with
higher tide so late in the day its going to be a tough one, contest
in Quepos national circuit and its going to be SMALL so ride a
fish with a motor !

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The Nicoya peninsula remains small for the weekend, surf
waist high, with some chest sets once every 15 minutes. The next
relief comes from the WNW on Wednesday afternoon, when the surf
should grow a foot. Thursday morning looks much better, with surf
head high + and that swell should stick around until Sunday. The
central and southern coast look the same, except the the WNW won't
arrive until Thursday.

Caribbean - The Limon province is still getting hit with head high
surf with some bigger sets. The waves back off a foot on Monday and
then reorganize with another E swell in the head high range for
Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday it grows 1-2 feet, and by Friday P.V.
will see some 3-4 overhead barrels at their world class peak.

It's been another longboard week in Tamarindo. It's been waist high
from Pico Pequeno to the rivermouth and lots of off-shore wind to go
with that. Langosta has had nice fun waves before the tides get too
high. Watch out during those late afternoon sessions in Tamarindo,
though! It's that time of year when everybody and their dog is
learning how to surf and it's a zoo out there!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
I haven't heard any news of weekend swells, but I've been under the
weather sweating out some dengue fevers. My guess is that we will
have windy afternoons preceded by gorgeous sunny mornings with great
little waves.
olas pequenas.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Early morning should be good anywhere in Tamarindo, Langosta working
better in midmorning. I recommend Playa Grande for sure, as dawn
would be the time for hiking there this weekend and maybe you can
beat the crowd.
Langosta sera buena unas horas despues.

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

Another week of off shores and perfect small surf in the shoulder to
head high range. There was a slight drop on Thurs. with fewer of the
overhead sets coming through in the morning, but with perfect light
off shore wind conditions, and then in the afternoon, the wind shift
obliterated the sunset session.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The high tides are shifting to the morning raising the probability
for great surf if the swell holds or grows.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
These "westish" swells are hitting the entire bay with good sand at
most of the spots from Chicken Head Rock to Tamarindo.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Northern Pacific coast has lucked out from WNW swells that
have pegged the coast with surf headhigh or bigger on the sets. In
the Nicoya armpit, Jaco will not see the swell, but it may hit Tulin
and farther south, once again waves head high with a few bigger sets.
And the southern Pacific will be smaller - chest high +. These sizes
will be steady all weekend and into the beginning of next week, with
a drop in size by next Wednesday a foot for all beaches.

Caribbean - Waze size drops from head high to knee high between
Saturday and Monday. Next swell due for the right coast on Tuesday,
about midday will see an increase from knee to waist, to head high by
evening. On Wednesday, size increase to 1-2 overhead and by Thursday
spots are maxing 2+ overhead. Surf stays big through the weekend,
with it dropping off Sunday.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diane, the best surf instructor in Tamarindo -

1. The surf has picked up this week, starting out without much of
anything and checking in yesterday with nice head high sets. It seems
that the wind gets turned on full blast at 12 noon, though, so the
afternoon high tides are tough to surf.

2. Thank goodness as the tide moves later in the afternoon we should
have better sessions as the wind mellows in the evening. We have the
waves right now, we just need the wind to let them get to us.

3. I think the weekend surf will be good most places around here.
Avellanas, as always, where you can chose your break according to the
tide is a good idea right now so you can work around the wind. By
Sunday maybe he rivermouth in Tamarindo. Right now, give Langosta a
try.
Langosta.

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

The swell never quit this week and has been holding overhead and
improving in quality every day. Yesterday was epic in the 1-2 foot
overhead range. The wind has been offshore all day with the minimum
tide changes between the moons resulting in long high tide windows.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The high tide is moving into the afternoon and getting fuller. If the
swell holds and the wind stays off shore all day, we should continue
to have good surf conditions.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Pick your spot. The whole bay from Tamarindo to Chicken Head rock has
waves at some tide.

** From Marco at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa -
