TIDES *for Friday - add 50 min. each day after

High Tide - 9.83 ft at 5:11 AM
Low Tide - (-1.09) ft at 11:19 AM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - By Saturday, surf should be consistent in the waist to chest
range,
with an occasional head high set rolling in every 15 minutes. The swell
appears
to be coming from the SW, and should increase in size by Sunday and
into next
week, with waves in the head high range, with foot overhead peaks at
the better
southern beachbreaks. High tides in the early a.m. make it great for a
2
session day. A larger short period swell forms offshore of southern
Nicarauga
and might give the northen Nicoya some nice waves for Monday.

Caribbean - The surf was ON for last weekend's contest, and it stays in
the
headhigh + range all weekend. Then on Monday it starts fading out, with
chest
to head high surf into the midweek and then dropping to waist to chest
high +
for Thursday and Friday.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Carrie at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande-

Small, small, and small again, all week long! The water's been
beautiful and
the offshores have been blowing consistently, but no swell to be seen!!
Thursday afternoon and evening showed a bit of a bump in the water,
much
appreciated for wave-starved surfers.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

Let's hope there's a good swell on the way, because the tides are right
for
double sessions, and the offshore winds are blowing consistently.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

The main peak at Grande will have waves if there's anything to be
had!!!!

2) From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

We haven't really had any waves to speak of in Tamarindo this week--a
lot of
wind, but no waves. Pico Pequeno at high tide shows only the tiniest
wash of
whitewater.
alta.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

According to predictions we may see it pick up a little on Sunday, but
it seems
like it will be a good weekend to do a little work around the house or
dust off
the running shoes.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

At best we'll have small rideable surf near the river in the early
mornings
while the tide is high and the wind is calm. I predict a good weekend
for road
trips south!
buen fin
de semana para viajes al sur.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:

New boards in our surf shop: 7'6"Corkey Carroll fun board and 6'1"
Ratboy short
board, both in tuff-lite! Gracias, Alejandro!

3) From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp out of Playa del Coco and
Tamarindo:

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -

This WEEK has been WEAK. Not much surf for a few days, waist-to-chest
high at
Ollies on the good sets, the same at Witch's Rock.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -

Finally today (Thursday 1-31) the surf picked up to shoulder high!
Friday-Sunday should be back to solid shoulder to head high, and with
these
offshore winds we're going to get some epic surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -

The new swell that will start to fill in tomorrow and saturday is
south,
meaning Ollie's will of course rule. Witch's as well, in front of the
rivermouth/estuary seeing solid shoulder-head high rights and lefts.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-

WRSC has a large schoolbus that has been transformed into a motorhome,
and is
available for custom
group surf trips. Local and international groups can contact WRSC
through our
website, www.witchsrocksurfcamp.com or by calling our office in Costa
Rica at

JACO & HERMOSA

6) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

The waves are glassy again this morning, but not much swell is showing
at all.
Tulin or Bejuco will be showing the biggest waves today, around waist
to chest
high. Hopefully the wind will stay off of it. High tide this afternoon
is
around 5:00PM. Since the waves are flat and the moon is full, fishing
has been
on the menu. Good Luck. Dennis Christopher and Tobit McLean, are doing

5) From Greg at the Adventure Education Center in Dominical-

It's a repeat from last week - "Surf has been as small as waist high,
but fun
with consistent sets up to head high out in front. Great weather with
little
rain, and nice early offshore winds." Perfect sunsets!!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

semana (clima y olas):

Swell should fill in from the SW by Sunday, sending up some 1 foot
overhead
waves. Check it early since high tides are in the morning :)
