TIDES *for Friday - add 50 min. each day after

High Tide - 9.83 ft at 5:11 AM
Low Tide - (-1.09) ft at 11:19 AM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - This weekend, surf will be in the chest to head high range,
with a
few big sets rolling through, announcing swells arriving from the NW
and SW.
Those swell show with the incoming tide Monday morning, when surf grows
to a
foot overhead with a 13-14 second period. Tuesday and Wednesday expect
surf to
increase to 2+ overhead with a shorter 11 second period and lots of set
waves.
This should last into the weekend, but diminish back to head high by
next
Sunday. Dawn patrol at Negra sounds like a good plan.

Caribbean - Waves will be chest to head high for Saturday, with a short
8
second period. A new swell from the ENE files in head high + surf for
Sunday
afternoon and will stay in that range until next Tuesday. Lots of
showers
expected throughout the day.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Carrie at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande-

We had chest to head high waves today with bigger sets coming through
just
south of the main peak at Grande, where, unfortunately the crowd was
particularly diligent. The wind has been offshore all morning the last
two
days, with a switch to north or onshore by noon or one o'clock, ruining
the
surf.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

Let's hope the wind doesn't continue it's latest trend of switching to
onshore
by noon, since high tide is around noon tomorrow and we're not complete
without
that outgoing tide session!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

The main peak at Grande or just to the south of the main peak.

2) From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

The south west swell was small here, about waist high at the beach
between the
lifeguard tower and the river mouth. A few nice waves rolled in at the
river
today at high tide, but lacking much push, they were very short rides.
Langosta
doesn't really do much on a south swell but the walk to Grande showed
some nice
little peaks. The wind has been hard and off shore except this
afternoon it
seems to have switched.
Langosta no
unas
olas buenas.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

A lot of sun, a lot of wind and hopefully a few more waves in the next
several
days.
vienen.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

Probably more of the same: the beach north of the lifeguard tower, the
rivermouth and spots along the way to Grande are what's good when waves
come
from the south.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:

Tomorrow night at The Childrens' Park--Guanacaste String Festival. It's
a big
rock concert with all the bands in town, ending, rumor has it, with The
Leatherbacks. Manana por la noche en El Parque De Los Ninos--Guanacaste
String
Festival.
pueblo a
terminar, se dicen, con Los Leatherbacks.

3) From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp out of Playa del Coco and
Tamarindo:

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -

This last week we saw consistent shoulder-head high surf at Ollie's,
which has
been better all week with the predominant south swells. Yesterday (Fri
2-08)
saw an increase in the afternoon to head-high surf, with good offshore
winds
that weren't TOO hard.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -

The surf is now officially up. Today (Friday) is head-high with
overhead sets
at Ollie's, head-high at the Rock. We should see more waves Saturday, a
slight
drop Sunday (but still really fun)

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -

Ollie's- on the south swell, is all-time right now. Get on it.
