Costa Rica's Weekly Surf Report for August 30th , 2001

Brought to you each Friday evening by local surf
businesses throughout Costa Rica. See
http://www.crsurf.com/links.html for pics., forecast
links, and tide charts.

Primer Torneo - Circuito Nacional de Surf Costa Rica

Septiembre 14 y 15, Playa Jaco (NEW date!)

Send me a note if you are interested in working on a
Costa Rican chapter of the Surfrider Foundation -
Protecting the World's Oceans, Waves, and Beaches.

Friday TIDES

Low Tide 1.95 ft at 7:14 AM
High Tide 7.94 ft at 1:25 PM

(These are for Puntarenas. It has been noticed that
Guanacaste tides are about an hour later)

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The strong SSW has kept this coast happy
with head high surf continuing into Friday. It should
drop to chest high for Saturday and down to waist to
stomach by Monday. Tuesday it is the same, but have
some hope for chest high+ surf for Wednesday. A
sizable direct South swell will be pushing in for the
next weekend. Some models show a 19 second period so
this is the time to make travel plans to hit those
South facing beaches and points. High tide will also
be in the early morning next Saturday.

Caribbean - Continued storms in the Caribbean Sea are
sending short period chest to head high surf for
Friday and Saturday morning. Conditions will worsen by
Sunday, dropping to about waist high. Then for Monday
on it looks dismal, knee to maybe a waist high set for
the next few days.

The waves were a little smaller today, but still
overhead sets. It´s about 2-4 feet from the back with
bigger sets. There are some fun looking barrels and
there´s no wind. High tide was at 11:30AM. Esterillos
was also really fun this morning for the in-coming
tide, with head high peaky barrels. Our in house pros

DOMINICAL & SOUTHERN PACIFIC

5) From Jason & Karla at the Green Iguana surf camp in
Dominical:

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -

Surf has been a few feet overhead for the last few
days. The Point was juicy and doin' it's thang.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -

It's been a dry rainy season this year, and wer'e
looking for more of the same. Not much rain, and the
surf looks like it's gonna be shrinking over the next
4-5 days, however there is hope on the distant
horizon.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -

Playa Dominical picks up the most swell in the area,
and should be good even if it's flat (waist high).

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-

Fourth annual Kool Kind Cowabunga Sponge Wax Festival
starts on Monday. Adios y Pura Vida!
