Friday TIDES

High Tide 9.99 ft at 6:34 AM
Low Tide 0.14 ft at 12:46 PM

(These are for Puntarenas. It has been noticed that
Guanacaste tides are an hour later)

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The next few days look great, head high
Friday with a 16 seoncd period and 2 feet overhead by
Sunday with a wave period of 13 seconds. There is also
a strong morning high tide so get to those
beachbreaks. The SSW sticks around through Monday and
then by Tuesday things calm down to chest high
throughout the rest of the week. It looks like the
strong swell down near Argentina has pushed the surf
back to New Zealand, so we have to wait until another
Down Under pressure systems "turns the tide" back this
way.

Caribbean - The swell is not present, but surf is
being generated by strong winds over the Caribbean
Sea. They push in chest to head high choppy sets all
weekend. Expect it to drop to knee to waist once the
winds die down, and lots of rain is expected.

just
before sunset with the incoming tide there are some
good sets.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que
va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas):

Waves should pick up to head high, overhead on the

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas
y condiciones:

Unseasonal offshore winds have fanned excellent waves
this week, with possiblities for morning and evening
surf sessions.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que

Double sessions continuing into the weekend and with
the expected swell, we can look forward to great waves
if the wind holds offshore.

The main peak in front of the hotel will be good up to
double overhead at which time the Tamarindo rivermouth
area will be a good place to check.

3) From Steve at Tropico Latino in Santa Teresa (just
north of Mal Pais)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Small and not well
organised this morning out front on the outgoing tide
- Sta Teresa is probably a bit better. However it's
much glassier than it has been during the temporal
type conditions of the last few days and should
improve as the weather clears.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND: Looks like more SW swell
is on the way and conditions should continue to
improve, though as we move into the wettest bit of the
rainy season this is hard to predict.

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA: Both morning and
afternoons should be good at Playa Carmen on the high
tide.

5) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

Wednesday August 22, 2001 12:00 PM

Earlier this morning, upper hermosa, out front of the
Brisa del Mar had fun chest to head high barrels. The
weather was clear and sunny with a light offshore
wind. Low tide was at 11:00Am. As the tide starts
filling in this afternoon, the waves will be getting
fun again. As long as the wind stays calm, Esterillos
(out front of the Rancho Coral), will be smoking for
high tide. We are getting this SW (200-225) from a
storm that was spinning off South America last week.
This weekend, we´re expecting a bigger SW pulse. This
should be great for the contest this weekend in
Esterillos. The Rancho Coral Team will be there and
hopefully taking over the event. Our in house pros and
Lost & Dragon's own Brad Hersch and Tobit McLean. They
have started their summer surf clinics so, call Tobit
for details and info 506 643 2078 or e-mail him at

techniques, the latest equipment, boards and critique
