Overview - Caribbean Coast - Perfect snorkeling conditions to start the week, but a tropical disturbance is expected to cross the country and strengthen in the Caribbean, pushing in some choppy overhead surf for Thursday and Friday.
Pacific Coast - It's a double whammy this week. Leftover SSW swell keeps the surf overhead to start the week, then a West wind swell picks up from tropical storm formation. This combines with another SSW swell Thursday, pushing the surf up to double overhead for two days. It cleans up Saturday and Sunday with dropping size and better form. More SW waves are expected the following week as well.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (5/25)-
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:Decent early morning, head high, sets are perfectly matched with the high tides - but somewhat mixed up by the proximity of the rainy season just south of us. There are lots of people out in the afternoon for the on shore messy surf.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The early morning tides are right, and the possibility of an afternoon session if it glasses off, but anything can affect the quality right now as the first part of the rainy season moves in.
** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (5/25)
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf here at Playa Negra is small and mushy. Waist high with sets up the to chest high and pretty much poor shape. Cloudy skies with light onshores. Water temp is 82 degrees.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Small surf continues for the next couple days with the rainy skies and onshore wind. The surf picks up out of the south Tuesday and peaks Wednesday some head high sets with fair shape. We've got high tide running through the mornings this week and that will help focus the swell into Playa Negra and Playa Avellanas.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Playa Negra and Playa Avellanas. Playa Grande could have some good surf early.

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones (5/26) -
Surf today is looking OK at report time as we had some really heavy rains last night. They acutally woke me up a few times. It started clearing up around 7 this morning, which is why the report is running a bit behind schedule. The photos were taken at a dead high tide and the weather was just starting to break, so there is hope for a late mornin session. Town is pretty much dead right now, which is a good thing as Kemper has been super fun to play with this month, so I am happy to hang out at the house and send her on tickle missions.
** From Hotel Buenisimo in Santa Teresa/Mal Pais (5/25) -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: 2 to 3 foot. Fun waves. Best at mid tide. Light showers.

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical (5/26) -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Shoulder high and peaky but pestered by wind and the cold, muddy river water. Good in the mornings and early afternoon if the wind isn't too strong.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): We have a big event coming on Wednesday, but its a bit hard to believe. I think it is going to be a near shore event and big but crazy - waves going this way and that all on top of each other. It could be fun or it could be out of control. We'll see.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: In front of Coco's there is a good left going off. In front of the river mouth there is a good right. Between the river mouth and Coco's there is a lot of cold muddy water.
