AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (5/17)-

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The tides are moving into the afternoon now, and the liklihood of good surf is remote although everyone seems to be enjoying the Florida-like conditions anyway.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The head high swell has nice shape, but the light on shores are keeping us from having great surf in the early afternoon. Pray for rain.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Pick a peak - the light crowds will probably continue.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (5/18)

The nice swells we've been having for so long are gone. Replaced by waist to chest high waves coming through every once in a while. These have been nice mornings for a mask and snorkel. Beautiful sunny skies in the mornings with those big puffy white clouds floating around up there. Light offshore wind in the mornings and blowing out onshore in the afternoons. Water temp is 84 degrees. Some rain in the late afternoons / evenings. Coming up, more of the same. Not much going on storm wise in the underworld last week so we are pretty much waveless for the next few days. A storm that went through the South Pacific a few days ago will bring some steep south swells into Central America but may be a bit too south for Playa Negra. It won't happen until next weekend anyways. So get out the longboards and lots of sunscreen. It's a long wait in between those waist high wonders. Get out there early and you'll solo. Check out some great pics daily at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones (5/18) -

Good morning folks... I hope you guys are having a great weekend. Last night our crew headed to Chandi's new restaurant in Garza. Chandi used to run Il Basilico, which was shut down, but he has now moved his pizza oven down about 150meters south to another little bar. Garza is a great place to hang out on the beach and watch the sunset over Punta Guiones.

For surf today we are looking at a building swell that will peak this afternoon in the head high range. It is looking real fun on the beach... I was worried as it rained pretty good last night, but it cleaned up real quick. The winds are light offshore and we have a pushing low tide... those are some of my favorite conidtions... should be a little skate park out there today... keep an eye out for Lluigi and the boys doing some silly tricks.

** From Hotel Buenisimo in Santa Teresa/Mal Pais (5/17) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Current swell brings some head high sets. Light winds throughout the day.

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco (5/17) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y cond iciones: Okay heres the scoop ! We have been off playing COWBOY in Arizona for the last week , thanks to "COWBOY''Terri Flemming for the great adventure including the 8 mile hike and trail ride into Fossil Creek and the adventure to Tonto Natural bridge along with the suggestion of Cowboy Club in Sedona for a great BUFFALO burger ! I couldn't believe how beautiful the South West was and how great the people were but yep no surf so I cant fill you in ! Next week we will keep you in the loop surf wise but if you want to go on "VACA" and do it somewhere new and exciting let us know and we will hook you up with Terri and Cowboy BILL and help you have great time too ! Thanks Terri it was great and we have some great photos too ! Pura Vida AMERICAN STYLE !

** From Steve at Jazzys River House in Dominical (5/17) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: saturday morning low tide. mostly blue skies, small waves and clean conditions. yesterday we had mild storm conditions with strong onshore winds most of the day - poor conditions. today looks promising...a nice longboard day like last wednesday and thursday.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): back to summer weather with small but clean surf, somewhat peaky and overall quite mellow and fun.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: as small as it is Dominical would have to be the best bet.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Dominicals' lifeguard program is expanding and restructuring and looking forward to the arrival of our new lifeguard captain: Andrew Webster from Encinitas CA. Welcome aboard Andrew.
