NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The weekend's overhead surf quickly fades Monday morning,
leaving chest high remainders for Tuesday and not another bump up
until Wednesday evening. Thursday morning sees some head high relief
from SW, but it only lasts one day. By Friday it's down to chest
high and the dribble keeps coming in - chest with a rare head high
set for the weekend. The right coast looks more promising.

Caribbean - Great surf Monday, 2-3 foot overhead with bigger sets.
Lots of closeouts at the beachbreaks but the points look good.
Coming from the NNE, then switching Tuesday from the East. The swell
fades quickly Wednesday, down to a foot overhead. Thursday shows
headhigh with a few biggers sets with the same for Friday. Saturday
has more East swell on tap with more overhead sets.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 1/6)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

We have been enjoying a perrfect, slightly overhead, inconsistent
swell. It has a little better angle than last week and the off
shores have been holding for morning and evening sessions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It looks pretty good for the
morning session starting at daybreak as the tide moves away from the
afternoon go out.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: This swell is hitting the
whole bay. Just pick a spot with nobody out and enjoy.

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

The Christmas swell lasted into the beginning of this week, but now
has passed. Waves in Tamarindo are waist to chest high and the wind
is shifty--sometimes perfect, sometimes not. The extremely high
tides this week made it necessary to surf at mid and low tides.
medias.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): This should be a grea t surf
weekend because the high tides are in the morning and the morning
wind is generally cooperative. There were some nice lefts in front
of the Diria this morning at high tide.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Check the Diria at high tide,
Pico Grande at little lower tide and Langosta afterward.
y Langosta despues.

** John Lyman Photos from Playa Negra at lymanphoto@... -

The waves have been knee to head high depending on the tide with
even the occasional just overhead set that catches everybody inside.
Some days it offshore all day some days onshore and even some
sprinkles this afternoon.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
moderate offshores all day. This is January after all. The surf will
stay in the fun range with longboarders getting the goods.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Avellanas has been really
good at the rivermouth but don't tell anybody. High tides running
through midday this week means those beachbreaks and reefs that pull
in the west northwest swells. Langosta?
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Surfing
calendars of Costa Rica for 2006. Check them out and order at
http://tamarindobeach.net/photos_lyman/index.html

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Playa Nosara -
Surf is building now - real fun chest-headhigh sets with occasional
overhead waves. We've got the high tide in the morning, so best
times are 6am - noon. Wind has been cooperating too. Pura Vida from
Coconut Harry http://www.coconutharrys.com/

** From John at Samara Surf School -

The swell has backed down a lot, there are some mini waves 2 to 3
foot waves coming in, good form. Off shore winds in the mornings,
then mostly choppy for the evening.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is expected to be coming
in. Hopefully bringing 6 to 7 foot waves, nice form. For the weekend
we have 2 to 3 foot barreling waves, soft peaks, great for beginner
surfers. Good time to practice up on your skills. Perfect conditions
for starting in the whitewater. Choppy conditions with rain.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds or localism, with a nice clean perfect wave. LONG RIDES THIS
WEEK! If you want to catch bigger waves take an adventure to Playa
Guiones and stop at "coconut harry's" surf shop!
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: With no swell
it's a great time to support our local turtle sanctuary and great to
volunteer at the after school program through Intercultura language
school. For furthur information on either contact Jesse's 656-0055.
Bring your Pura Vida!

** From Chuck at WOW Surf Shop in Playa Jaco -

Surf is a bit bigger than the last few days and we had a couple of
headhigh ones our front this a.m. with super clean glassy
conditions , hope to see this swell rise a bit and it seems that if
you wait it out it could get pretty good ! High tides in A.M. and
the afternoon tide isnt bad either so lots of surf around ! Town is
going to be super busy today and all weekend so get a place to stay
go check out the competition at Hermosa and come by the shop and
check out our lines and such ! Thanks and Happy surfing ! Chuck and
the crew at W.O.W. SURF!

** From Rancho Coral in Playa Esterillos -

Local Climate: Sunny, Air Temp: 94F. Water Temp 87F, Direction &
Height: Southwest 3-4ft., Sea Surface: Glass, Winds: Offshore 0-5
MPH, Sunrise: 5:31 AM Sunset: 5:36 PM, Current Conditions: All our
groms passed into today's final rounds. Rookie Micheal passed all
his heats. Team Manager Arturo is still in the Men's Open. Super
Coach and Top Tico Gilbert Brown is back from a knee injury looking
powerful to lead The Open Mens. Cali is still in the semis for
Groms, Boys and Juniors, Jason Torres who made the cover of the
National Paper this morning also advanced. Congratulations, Pura
Vida!

** From Brice at Land Assurance Tree Reforestation in Dominical -

Waist high with occasional head high waves coming in. No wind even
during the middle of the day is leaving the full day. High tide is
for long boarders and mid to low tide is not too small for short
boards.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It looks like the waves will be
growing from waist high to shoulder high on average. But don't
expect overhead from the big sets.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The entire beach from the
river to Roca Verde will be ok, but most people are hanging out near
the river mouth.
