NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - On Monday, the fun head high sets dwindle down to chest
high along the southern coasts, while still arriving every half hour
up north. Tuesday is the same, and Wednesday the NW swell sets start
stacking up one foot overhead on the Guanacaste coast. Thursday
those overhead sets get more consistent and by Friday a 1-2 punch,
NW and SW combine to bring surf up to 1 to 2 feet overhead. Saturday
and Sunday stay 1-2 foot overhead all day.

Caribbean - ENE swell, chest to head high reaching it's peak Sunday
and starting to weaken by Monday afternoon. Tuesday stays chest high
from the NE, with one or two foot overhead sets coming from a long
range ground swell from the East. Those overhead waves become the
standard by Wednesday and by Thursday surf will be 1-2 foot overhead
with 3+ overhead sets - dangerous conditions on the beachbreaks.
Friday drops a foot but won't get less than overhead through the
weekend.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 1/14)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
With the high tides in the afternoon and a well shaped, just
overhead, swell, the wind has been the major factor in the quality
of the surf this week. Excellent sessions are being divined by savvy
surfers in between the swirling wind.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): By Sunday the daybreak window
begins to open and our morning off shore cycle begins again with
great promise.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The SWesterly swell hitting
for the last few days is focusing on the main break in front of the
hotel.

** John Lyman Photos from Playa Negra at lymanphoto@... -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
The waves have been in the chest to head high range all week.
Beautiful sunny offshore mornings with the wind switching to onshore
by noonish.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The next week should be about the
same with a nice bump from the southwest for Tuesday and Wednesday.
It's low tide middays this week so the earlier you hit it, the
better.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Playa Negra should be the
spot early and then check out Avellanas Rivermouth for the low tide.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: 2006 is here.
Get your Costa Rica surfing calendar now. Check it out at:

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Playa Nosara -
The south swell is showing and it's head-high on set waves - lotsa
fun. Wind is going calm or offshore by around 3pm. Pura Vida from
Coconut Harry http://www.coconutharrys.com/

** From John at Samara Surf School -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
The swell has backed down a lot, there are some mini waves 3 to 4
foot waves coming in, good form. Off shore winds in the mornings,
then mostly choppy for the evening.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is expected to be coming
in. Hopefully bringing 6 to 7 foot waves, nice form. For the weekend
we have 3 to 4 foot waves, soft peaks, great for beginner surfers.
Good time to practice up on your skills. Perfect conditions for
starting in the whitewater.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds or localism, with a nice clean perfect wave. LONG RIDES THIS
WEEK! If you want to catch bigger waves take an adventure to Playa
Guiones and stop at "coconut harry's" surf shop! NEWS AND UPCOMING
EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: With no swell it's a great time
to support our local turtle sanctuary and great to volunteer at the
after school program through Intercultura language school. For
furthur information on either contact Jesse's 656-0055. Bring your
Pura Vida!

** From Rancho Coral in Playa Esterillos -

Local Climate: Sunny; Air Temp: 94F. Water Temp 87F; Direction &
Height: Southwest 3-4ft.; Sea Surface: Glass; Winds: Offshore 0-5
MPH; Sunrise: 5:15 AM; Sunset: 5:36 PM; Current Conditions: We have
some swell still left over firing off the reef. This week we should
see a repeat of last week, Good Luck to our National Team in Peru,
Pura Vida!

** From Brice at Land Assurance Tree Reforestation in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
Finally! There are some good overhead waves at Dominical. They
appear to be a single event with very uniform and smooth shape.
Unfortunately, they are closing out at all but high tide at the main
Dominical beach. But, back to good news, the high tide is 5:00 so
you can get two sessions: the offshore mornings and the no wind
afternoons.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It looks like more of the same.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Find a point break. I haven't
seen Punta Dominical but imagine there isn't enough swell to make it
work. Try Playa Hermosa or Uvita to the south.
