NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - copy and pasted from last week - Friday it's head high to
overhead with a foot overhead sets - staying that way through next
Tuesday afternoon (5/31) when the first 2 foot overhead sets roll in
from the South. To forecast later next week, surf not too big head
high to overhead in the Nicoya and 1 to 2 feet bigger on the
southern facing beachbreaks. Wednesday will be the best morning for
a dawn patrol at a beach break, with high tide at 9 a.m..

Caribbean - A small ESE swell picks up on Sunday, pushing in some
waist to chest high surf by the late afternoon. Monday and Tuesday
should be fun chest to head high sets and very consistent. By
Wednesday it starts to fade out, with infrequent head high sets,
dropping to waist high by Thursday. Check the tropical forecasts for
wind swell generators.

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
We finally had some decent off shore surf after a week of afternoon
on shore, bumpy waves and rainy weather. Picture summertime Florida
on a medium to big day in the afternoon.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The high tide has moved to the
morning window so we are crossing our fingers.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The swell has been hitting
more on our end of the bay although it's been smoother in Tamarindo.

** From Mike at Witch's Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS – The surf has been in the waist to
chest high range this week and we are looking at a nice size south
well building this weekend. Tamarindo Rivermouth has seen clean
conditions every morning. As we continue into the rainy season our
mornings have seen light offshore winds that have given us almost
perfect early conditions. The early week surf was extremely choppy
due to hurricane Adrian that rolled ashore in El Salvador. The early
week saw the biggest surf in Tamarindo this year. However, it was
quite choppy, but big and really fun. The surf has settled down as
well as the chop. Nevertheless, we are all looking forward to this
weekend and early next week. We have continued south swell activity,
so the surf is only going to get better this weekend and the swell
will stick around all the way through Thursday or Friday of next
week.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) – All this direct
South swell activity early on in the season only means one thing. We
are going to have a great south swell season. We have a fresh band
of S-SW swell activity coming almost directly south at 206 degrees.
The swell will level out at a 6-9 feet on Tuesday and we should see
waves from this swell all the way until next weekend. Hopefully
another one will be right behind it like we experienced this past
weekend. The swell will start building early Monday morning and will
last well into Thursday. The surf should be in the head high range
all weekend long with the swell building early next week. The wind
forecast is calling for offshore winds late this weekend and early
next week, so this swell should produce a ton of fun waves to all
the south facing beaches. My call is to take Mon. and Tues. off from
work and surf all day, cause the swell is going to be building this
weekend and firing early next week.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA – All the beaches in
Northern Costa Rica should have epic surf with glassy conditions in
the morning. If the wind treats us right we should have building
surf all weekend long. Look for Tamarindo, Avellanas, Witch's Rock,
Ollies Point, Playa Negra, Play Grande, and Nosara to all have
glassy surf in the chest to head high range. All the breaks should
have some fun waves to be had. Nevertheless, this almost direct
south swell should peak next Wednesday.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Witch's Rock Surf Camp is very proud to
tell you that we will soon be offering online DVD creation. That is
right, whether you are coming to WRSC for the first time or you have
already visited, you can create a DVD of your surf vacation at WRSC
directly on our website. Pura Vida, Mike Alto

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -
Must say pretty FLAT!!!, with some 3 foot sets rolling in. Great
beginner conditions. With the rain the conditions are pretty
glassy.¡¡¡Debemos admitir que están bastante planas!!! Aunque entran
algunas de 1 m. Condiciones magníficas para los principiantes. Con
la lluvia las condiciones son bastante cristalinas.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is expected to be coming
in from the South, if so nice 4 to 6 foot waves, good shape and
glassy conditions after rainstorms. Choppy when it is windy.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su área: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds and a cleaner wave.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y días especiales: The conditions
in Samara are perfect for beginners right now, so if you've always
wanted to learn surfing come on down or over! Pura Vida.

* From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -
Thursday evening conditions in Jaco waist to chest high semi glassy
and a bit too full tide for me ¡ If we had a bit more size it would
have been good ,expect the tides to be later in the afternoon this
weekend so should be better . Hermosa is the call for the a.m. surf
at least until next week with the tide maybe going to be too high
there for the early one and thats when Jaco is better ! The CIRCUS
is in town this weekend so lots of "surfos" and also be a good time
to either watch the best competitors we have rip it up or go for a
drive to someplace else for less crowded conditions ! Watch for a
young guy named Juan Carlos Naranjo [ Diegos little bro] in both the
Juniors and Open division , he has been surfing really well on
boards By ERIE surfboards and sponsored by W.O.W. surf and is one of
the clean drug free hard surfing local kids and is a threat to the
Open champs as well as his own age group . Anyways happy surfing and
see ya soon ! Chuck and the crew at W.O.W. surf whom are "WALKING ON
WATER " !

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - **late Sat. nite forecast - post surf - Today the swell
maxed out, and by Sunday you'll see a small dip in the set size -
but still big 2-5 foot overhead, bigger at a few spots. Monday it
drops another two feet, but Tuesday shows some West swell in the mix
for some frequent 1-3 overhead sets in the Guanacaste region.
Wednesday the sets get farther apart, and by Thursday it's down to a
foot overhead. Friday it's head high to overhead with a foot
overhead sets - staying that way through next Tuesday afternoon
(5/31) when the first 2 foot overhead sets roll in from the South.
To forecast later next week, surf not too big head high to overhead
in the Nicoya and 1 to 2 feet bigger on the southern facing
beachbreaks.

Caribbean - The surf is quite flat for now, but the tropical season
has started with Adrian, and systems forming in the Caribbean will
be sending short period swell soon. No surf over waist high all
week, possibly some relief by next Saturday.

AREA REPORTS

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

The surf right now in Tamarindo is like a giant washing machine. The
south swell is here and it's breaking all over the bay. Boats
anchored in the bay appear and disappear at mid tide as the swells
roll in. The surf is big but not very rideable as the waves are
accompanied by a stiff south wind.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It's supposed to be very big and
very rainy as this system passes by. Perhaps mornings will be clean
enough to surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: If any spot can handle this
combination it will be Capitan Suizo. Si hay lugar que aguante estas
condiciones, sera el Capitan Suizo.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

We have plenty of swell. In spite of the early on-shores from the
hurricane, the clean swell is enticing a few surfers out at high
tide and some good rides have been had up to yesterday when it was
pretty bumpy even when the rains came in.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Hopefully the hurricane will
dissapate when it makes landfall and we can get back to our usual
off-shore in the morning pattern. We have a nice swell running.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Duck down
into Tamarindo for smoother conditions if it's bumpy or too big out
front.

** From Samara Surf Camp on the Nicoya Peninsula -

Around high tide some 4 foot waves rolling in, nice form. Choppy and
mushy conditions.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
to 5 foot, due to Full Moon coming. Weather conditions to be rainy
and windy, choppy conditions until after rain hits, then waves
become glassy and nice.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar para
has nice uncrowded conditions and not to close to the shore at high
tide.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y días especiales: Samara still
offers the best learning conditions for beginners and intermediate.
Winter time is here so plan on getting wet while you're surfing!
Pura Vida www.samarasurfschool.com.
Pura
Vida www.samarasurfschool.com.

** From Tommy at Rancho Coral in Esterillos -
Local Climate: Partly Sunny, Air Temp: 91F. Water Temp 87F,
Direction & Height: Southwest 8-10ft, Sea Surface: Strong Currents
inside Glass out at Cloudbreaks, Wind: South 0-5 MPH, Sunrise: 5:22
AM, Sunset: 5:50 PM, Current Conditions: We have big condiditons
getting bigger we should see it smooth out better for the mid day
high tide, Guanacaste is choppy with the Central Pacific Spots
firing. West reef East Peak all the long lefts they are on. For
people that can paddle into a 20 foot verticle drop with a thick

Low Tide: 2.0 ft at 12:50 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - This Sunday will show the start of a 1-3 foot overhead
South swell with a 17 second period that lasts through Monday.
Tuesday it drops 1-2 feet by the afternoon, but on Wednesday a
tropical system will push storms and rain on to the Nicoya
peninsula, bringing huge surf with it, 2-3 foot overhead with a
shorter 9 second period. The southern zone will stay way overhead
throughout the week, with another pulse of South swell arriving next
Saturday. Great dawn patrol potentials and lots of evening
thunderstorms.

Caribbean - Surf in the waist to chest high range starts to diminish
by Sunday, as the sets get fewer and farther between. By Monday
afternoon it's waist high, and by Thursday down to knee to waist
which sticks like that through to next weekend. Lot's of sunshine
though.

AREA REPORTS

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

Right now the surf in Tamarindo is around waist high at best, but it
looks like there's supposed to be a miracle over night because
tomorow is predicted to be shoulder to head high. Winds are on shore
most of the day with the exception of early morning and late
evening. It's going to start raining in a few days or weeks because
it feels like a sauna 24/7.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Looks like we should have waves!
Sometimes the swells that come sharply from the south like this one
pass by the Tamarindo Bay, but it's going to be hitting somewhere
for sure! Tendremos olas!
parte!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The Capitan Suizo will
probably be the best for mellow surf, longboarders and beginners. If
it comes in like it shows, Langosta should be epic and Grande too.
tranquilas, longboards y aprendizes. Si viene come esta
pronosticado, Langosta sera como nunca y Grande tambien.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

We've had several days of excellent early morning surf in the just
overhead range. A clean swell, glassy to light offshores, and
crystal clear water have added to the magic. Lots of open space with
only a smattering of daily invaders from Tamarindo.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
conditions should be favorable for good surf. Hopefully it won't get
much bigger and max out the fragile peaks that are working perfectly
at this size with light wind.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: All the peaks are working in
the north end of the bay - Slip down the service road to Tamarindo
if if it gets too big.

** From Samara Surf Camp on the Nicoya Peninsula -

The New moon brought a nice swell, around high tide there are nice 4
foot waves. Good shape and soft peaks. After a little rain the
conditions get glassy.
cristalinas.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Qué va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The prediction is for the waves
to get smaller and back off to their normal size of 3 feet. Maybe
some sets of 4 feet.
4 pies.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar para
surfear este fin de semana en tu área: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right infront of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds and a cleaner wave.

way.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Hermosa & Esterillos if not
to big. If it is big head to barranca y escondida.

** From Tommy at Rancho Coral in Esterillos -

Local Climate: Partly Sunny, Air Temp: 91F. Water Temp 87F,
Direction & Height: South 2-3ft, Sea Surface: Glassy, Wind: South 0-
5 MPH, Sunrise: 5:22 AM. Sunset: 5:50 PM, Current Conditions: Boo
Hoo it's Friday the 13th try to stay alive, we have small surf until
Sunday when we should see the arrival of this season's largest south
so far, PURA VIDA!!!!

** From Brice at Land Assurance Reforestation Services in Playa
Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Waves are shoulder to head high
and were closed out or waist high and peaky. That is, the inside was
happening but small and the outside was long and square. I just got
a look at high tide (really mushy), so it may have been happening at
a lower tide.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): Looks like a great
southern event is on its way. Should be well overhead by Sunday and
being truly from the south should have nice form. Bigger yet on
Monday.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Right now, the beach
is it. Anywhere along the beach is fine. When the swell arrives, the
point should be working really well. The beach may close out or it
may be really happening at high tide.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS I'm off to the states for the week so you
won't get a Dominical report next week.

through next Tuesday with a 17 second period. Drops two feet by
Wednesday afternoon and by Thursday is managable at overhead with a
2 foot overhead sets every 30 minutes. Next weekend looks smaller,
headhigh plus, but another macking South swell is due to arrive a
week from Tuesday.

Caribbean - Small surf through the weekend, knee to waist high with
a chest high set every 45 minutes. Gets more consistent between
Tuesday and Thursday with great weather. But the surf disappears
going into next weekend, back down to knee to waist.

AREA REPORTS

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
Today the wind has been off-shore all day which is luckier than
we've been for a while, but the surf is really small. It's supposed
to pick up in a day or two, but right now waves in Tamarindo are
about knee to waist high all up and down the beach.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Let's hope we see some of that
swell this weekend! The wind may or may not stay off shore into the
afternoons, but if we get the south swell that we're looking for, it
will be fun no matter what.
semana.
sea.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Pico Grande was looking good
the other day, so if we get the swell, that should be the spot. As
alwasys, The Capitan Suizo is the spot if the south swell brings in
a south wind.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
The swell has been running around shoulder to head high with
occassional over head sets. The shape is excellent, but the wind
fickle, and coming on shore around 10 AM completely blowing it out
as the tide fills in and drops.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The tides are moving into the
afternoon and good wind conditions are a long shot. It has been
trying to rain for the last few days which could make for
interesting surf conditions. The crowds have been light and friendly
except maybe for a jerk or two.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The main peak in front of the
hotel is receiving most of the focus.

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Nosara -
A building swell showing headhigh set waves here with more
consistent overhead stuff expected over the weekend. Winds are
cooperating with only light onshore breezes not really affecting
conditions. Pura Vida, Coconut Harry at www.coconutharrys.com

** From Brice at Land Assurance Reforestation Services in Playa
Dominical -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: If you like head high, long, soft
runs, then you should be happy at Dominical today. High tide is mid-
day which is usually too windy, but it is glassy out there right
now. The waves are small enough to work even within a couple of
hours from low tide.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - : Looks like we'll
have a swell in by Sunday. It is supposed to hit the beach from the
southwest (which would be best), but looks like a wide storm and
could come from just about any direction to the west. In any case,
we should have big waves (well overhead).

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: When the swell arrives
the beach will be questionable. It could be closed out or it could
be working at high tide. The point should be working near low tide.
