NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - copy and pasted from last week - Friday it's head high to
overhead with a foot overhead sets - staying that way through next
Tuesday afternoon (5/31) when the first 2 foot overhead sets roll in
from the South. To forecast later next week, surf not too big head
high to overhead in the Nicoya and 1 to 2 feet bigger on the
southern facing beachbreaks. Wednesday will be the best morning for
a dawn patrol at a beach break, with high tide at 9 a.m..

Caribbean - A small ESE swell picks up on Sunday, pushing in some
waist to chest high surf by the late afternoon. Monday and Tuesday
should be fun chest to head high sets and very consistent. By
Wednesday it starts to fade out, with infrequent head high sets,
dropping to waist high by Thursday. Check the tropical forecasts for
wind swell generators.

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
We finally had some decent off shore surf after a week of afternoon
on shore, bumpy waves and rainy weather. Picture summertime Florida
on a medium to big day in the afternoon.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The high tide has moved to the
morning window so we are crossing our fingers.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The swell has been hitting
more on our end of the bay although it's been smoother in Tamarindo.

** From Mike at Witch's Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS – The surf has been in the waist to
chest high range this week and we are looking at a nice size south
well building this weekend. Tamarindo Rivermouth has seen clean
conditions every morning. As we continue into the rainy season our
mornings have seen light offshore winds that have given us almost
perfect early conditions. The early week surf was extremely choppy
due to hurricane Adrian that rolled ashore in El Salvador. The early
week saw the biggest surf in Tamarindo this year. However, it was
quite choppy, but big and really fun. The surf has settled down as
well as the chop. Nevertheless, we are all looking forward to this
weekend and early next week. We have continued south swell activity,
so the surf is only going to get better this weekend and the swell
will stick around all the way through Thursday or Friday of next
week.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) – All this direct
South swell activity early on in the season only means one thing. We
are going to have a great south swell season. We have a fresh band
of S-SW swell activity coming almost directly south at 206 degrees.
The swell will level out at a 6-9 feet on Tuesday and we should see
waves from this swell all the way until next weekend. Hopefully
another one will be right behind it like we experienced this past
weekend. The swell will start building early Monday morning and will
last well into Thursday. The surf should be in the head high range
all weekend long with the swell building early next week. The wind
forecast is calling for offshore winds late this weekend and early
next week, so this swell should produce a ton of fun waves to all
the south facing beaches. My call is to take Mon. and Tues. off from
work and surf all day, cause the swell is going to be building this
weekend and firing early next week.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA – All the beaches in
Northern Costa Rica should have epic surf with glassy conditions in
the morning. If the wind treats us right we should have building
surf all weekend long. Look for Tamarindo, Avellanas, Witch's Rock,
Ollies Point, Playa Negra, Play Grande, and Nosara to all have
glassy surf in the chest to head high range. All the breaks should
have some fun waves to be had. Nevertheless, this almost direct
south swell should peak next Wednesday.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Witch's Rock Surf Camp is very proud to
tell you that we will soon be offering online DVD creation. That is
right, whether you are coming to WRSC for the first time or you have
already visited, you can create a DVD of your surf vacation at WRSC
directly on our website. Pura Vida, Mike Alto

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -
Must say pretty FLAT!!!, with some 3 foot sets rolling in. Great
beginner conditions. With the rain the conditions are pretty
glassy.¡¡¡Debemos admitir que están bastante planas!!! Aunque entran
algunas de 1 m. Condiciones magníficas para los principiantes. Con
la lluvia las condiciones son bastante cristalinas.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): A swell is expected to be coming
in from the South, if so nice 4 to 6 foot waves, good shape and
glassy conditions after rainstorms. Choppy when it is windy.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su área: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds and a cleaner wave.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y días especiales: The conditions
in Samara are perfect for beginners right now, so if you've always
wanted to learn surfing come on down or over! Pura Vida.

* From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -
Thursday evening conditions in Jaco waist to chest high semi glassy
and a bit too full tide for me ¡ If we had a bit more size it would
have been good ,expect the tides to be later in the afternoon this
weekend so should be better . Hermosa is the call for the a.m. surf
at least until next week with the tide maybe going to be too high
there for the early one and thats when Jaco is better ! The CIRCUS
is in town this weekend so lots of "surfos" and also be a good time
to either watch the best competitors we have rip it up or go for a
drive to someplace else for less crowded conditions ! Watch for a
young guy named Juan Carlos Naranjo [ Diegos little bro] in both the
Juniors and Open division , he has been surfing really well on
boards By ERIE surfboards and sponsored by W.O.W. surf and is one of
the clean drug free hard surfing local kids and is a threat to the
Open champs as well as his own age group . Anyways happy surfing and
see ya soon ! Chuck and the crew at W.O.W. surf whom are "WALKING ON
WATER " !

** Remember to check the Rover Cam for daily pics of the Central
Pacific coast!
