High Tide - 7.36 ft at 10:24 am
Low Tide - 1.87 ft. at 4:36 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The run of good swell may have ended for a bit, with surf
this weekend dropping to shoulder to headhigh range and a long wait
between sets. Monday through Wednesday stays steady with overhead
sets from the SW, while Thursday the surf will get up to head high in
the north Guanacaste region. There is a long range WSW swell coming
from east of New Zealand bringing 2 foot overhead surf by May 5th.
There will also be some south swell mixed in, delivering more
consistency.

Caribbean - This coast will be flat until Tuesday morning, then waves
will pick up to knee to waist from the ESE. Thursday the surf picks
up to deliver a few chest high sets, but won't hold through next
weekend. Bring your dive gear.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

Friday morning we woke to cloudy
skies and some light rain here in Playa Grande. The surf was onshore
and chest to very occassionally head high at the main peak. The water
is warm and beautiful but the onshores killed the conditions early
on. Thursday, it was light offshore until late morning and the surf
was clean and very fun.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather andwaves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): With the high tide moving towards noon,
it will be harder to catch a surf before the onshores kick in. It may
even be onshore early on. Try less exposed breaks.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Negra early in the morning, though that's a tricky call as the wind
could mess things up early on.

** From Diana, the best surf maestra in Tamarindo -

The beautiful swell we've had all week is passing. We had overhead
waves all over the place early in the week, but now most waves are in
the 4-5 foot range with only a few overheads left. The wind has been
amazingly cooperative, being light off shore in the morning and
staying that way until nearly noon. What more could we want? The
first rain of the season fell last night.
amaneciendo off shore y quedandose asi hasta casi mediodia. Que mas
podemos querer? La primera lluvia cayo anoche.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The high tide is moving toward noon, so expect to get out there in
the morning for the best conditions. Hopefully the swell won't fade
out compeletely and the off-shores will continue to hold out as the
water level fills in.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: If the swell holds out, the
Tamarindo River mouth will still be a good place, but if it passes
and leaves us flat, Avellanas or Playa Grande would be my next
choice.
Avellanas o Playa Grande.

** From Marco at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa -

It was
unusual,20 minuts glassy and calm, but when the set were coming..wow!
vida!

JACO & HERMOSA

** From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

Local Climate: Overcast/ Rain, Air Temp: 97f. Water Temp: 87f, Wave
Height & Direction: Solid SW 4-6 ft. (back of the wave) Sea Surface:
Glassy. Wind: South, 0-8 mph Sunrise: 5:24AM Sunset: 5:50 PM High
Tide: 10:24 AM / 7.36 ft Low Tide: 04:36 PM / 1.87 ft Current
Conditions: We should see some morning sun, so....Look for a good
dawn patrol spot like Bejuco or Tulin and dial into some screaming
barrels. PURA VIDA!!!! Costa Rica Extended Forecast. Six Foot Sets
out of the South for the Next Week or, So, You love that!

** From Chuck at Chosita del Surf Shop in Jaco -

Waves today Fri. a.m. were pretty fun at 3-4 ft with a bit bigger set
too , has dropped over the last few days ! We have plenty of weather
in the area so the waves are a bit peaky and somewhat stormy at times
as well , beach breaks are key and if the swell drops more the best
wave in the hood is definitely Hermosa and with the new direction its
been less closed out and the tree is starting to do its thing !!!

TIDES *for Friday
(add 50 min. each day after)

Full Moon - was April 16th

Low Tide -1.09 ft. at 9:40 am
High Tide: 10.51 ft. at 3:58 pm

Pacific - For the weekend, expect surf in the headhigh to 1 foot
overhead range for the south facing beaches. Will drop a foot on
Sunday afternoon, and then Monday another SW swell files in with some
2-3 foot overhead sets until Wednesday p.m. It diminishes down to
head high for next weekend, but lots of juice and consistency for
everyone.

Caribbean - The right coast is wrong for surfing this week, but great
for snorkeling or scuba. Maybe some knee to waist high mushers by
next Wednesday but don't expect anything better.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

We continue to have an ideal swell in the just overhead range,
however the onshores during the afternoon high tides have been
blowing it out these last few days. Thursday's dawn patrol was fun
for an hour and totally neglected by the hoards of Easter vacation
surfers standing by.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): The dawn patrol window will expand each
day and should bring us descent conditions for the first part of the
week after all the revelers have left.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - The southern direction
of swells we are getting now are hitting the northern end of the bay
near the hotel. Chicken head rock has been receiving some notoriety.

** From Diana, the best surf maestra in Tamarindo -

The change of seasons is upon us and the winds have been switching
around crazily all week--sometime on-shore all day, sometimes off-
shore all day, sometimes one and then the other. Surf is waist to
shoulder high, bigger when the wind turns on-shore. Watch out for the
extra-high and low tides this weekend. The Semana Santa crowds are
here and the beach is about crammed to capacity.
capacidad.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The waves will be here, it's the wind and it's changes that we will
wait to find out about. It's scalding hot and honestly the beach is
too full of people to be worthwile trying to surf much this weekend.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: If you know any secret spots,
lie about where you're going and go there! All the places people know
about are crammed with families on Semana Santa holidays and you
don't want to run over anybody's children or grandmother!
nadie!

JACO & HERMOSA

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

BIG SURF, BIG OFF SHORES. It is somewhat raw and squared off, with an
occassional beauty for the patient.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
We are hoping that it will drop down to a more manageable size and
clean up. The tides are excellent for the up coming week and will set
the stage for possible great surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Although the experienced, and pro surfers, are killing it out front,
we have been slipping down to the Tamarindo Estero for medium to high
tide for a more organized situation.

** From Diana, the best surf maestra in Tamarindo -

Incredible off-shore winds like we usually see only in January and
February blew in on Monday, the same day as we began to see signs of
the swell. Finally, the wind is calming to a managable pace and we
still have lots of south swell. Waves are head high and over all
throughout Tamarindo and Langosta.
y Langosta.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
We should have good waves at least going into the weekend, expecially
in the morning when we can generally count on the wind to be
friendly. Even as the swell passes, we should have 4-5 foot surf for
a few days.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
You can't go wrong. Any place in the bay is great, but watch for
currents, especially on the outgoing tide! No te puedes equivocar.

** From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -
In case you hadn't heard, the NW coast has been SLAMMED with the
biggest swell this year to date. Wave faces maxed out at 18-20ft at
Witch's Rock on Tuesday April 2nd, now it has dropped to 10-14ft face
waves with nice offshores. No, you probably wouldn't have been
surfing Witch's this week, Ollie's yes, Witch's insane.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -
As this swell subsides, a new one starts to build Sunday/Monday with
double overhead + potential. I am so freaking glad the south swell
season is back...

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -
Witch's and Ollie's, with your spring suit as the offshores have just
made it freezing (upper 60s)

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-
Tamarindo lifeguards no longer have any financial support and are
forced to quit! Wouldn't it be nice if many of the local Tamarindo
businesses would kick in to help support our lifeguards (as they save
tourists' lives, which equals more tourists alive and supporting your
businesses) In an attempt to stop this, WRSC is offering to pay IN
FULL FOR ALL LIFEGUARDS TO WORK TAMARINDO BEACH. If any other
businesseswant to join, please do. If not, well, I guess you can do
this too.

PS- greg, our photographer shot this one tuesday. a little closed on
this set, definitely shows up aaron chang you think? This was triple
overhead, thats probably why.joe

** From Marco at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa (Mal Pais)

Ahora me voy a
