NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The run of good swell may have ended for a bit, with surf
this weekend dropping to shoulder to headhigh range and a long wait
between sets. Monday through Wednesday stays steady with overhead
sets from the SW, while Thursday the surf will get up to head high in
the north Guanacaste region. There is a long range WSW swell coming
from east of New Zealand bringing 2 foot overhead surf by May 5th.
There will also be some south swell mixed in, delivering more
consistency.

Caribbean - This coast will be flat until Tuesday morning, then waves
will pick up to knee to waist from the ESE. Thursday the surf picks
up to deliver a few chest high sets, but won't hold through next
weekend. Bring your dive gear.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

Friday morning we woke to cloudy
skies and some light rain here in Playa Grande. The surf was onshore
and chest to very occassionally head high at the main peak. The water
is warm and beautiful but the onshores killed the conditions early
on. Thursday, it was light offshore until late morning and the surf
was clean and very fun.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather andwaves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): With the high tide moving towards noon,
it will be harder to catch a surf before the onshores kick in. It may
even be onshore early on. Try less exposed breaks.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Negra early in the morning, though that's a tricky call as the wind
could mess things up early on.

** From Diana, the best surf maestra in Tamarindo -

The beautiful swell we've had all week is passing. We had overhead
waves all over the place early in the week, but now most waves are in
the 4-5 foot range with only a few overheads left. The wind has been
amazingly cooperative, being light off shore in the morning and
staying that way until nearly noon. What more could we want? The
first rain of the season fell last night.
amaneciendo off shore y quedandose asi hasta casi mediodia. Que mas
podemos querer? La primera lluvia cayo anoche.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The high tide is moving toward noon, so expect to get out there in
the morning for the best conditions. Hopefully the swell won't fade
out compeletely and the off-shores will continue to hold out as the
water level fills in.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: If the swell holds out, the
Tamarindo River mouth will still be a good place, but if it passes
and leaves us flat, Avellanas or Playa Grande would be my next
choice.
Avellanas o Playa Grande.

** From Marco at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa -

It was
unusual,20 minuts glassy and calm, but when the set were coming..wow!
vida!

JACO & HERMOSA

** From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

Local Climate: Overcast/ Rain, Air Temp: 97f. Water Temp: 87f, Wave
Height & Direction: Solid SW 4-6 ft. (back of the wave) Sea Surface:
Glassy. Wind: South, 0-8 mph Sunrise: 5:24AM Sunset: 5:50 PM High
Tide: 10:24 AM / 7.36 ft Low Tide: 04:36 PM / 1.87 ft Current
Conditions: We should see some morning sun, so....Look for a good
dawn patrol spot like Bejuco or Tulin and dial into some screaming
barrels. PURA VIDA!!!! Costa Rica Extended Forecast. Six Foot Sets
out of the South for the Next Week or, So, You love that!

** From Chuck at Chosita del Surf Shop in Jaco -

Waves today Fri. a.m. were pretty fun at 3-4 ft with a bit bigger set
too , has dropped over the last few days ! We have plenty of weather
in the area so the waves are a bit peaky and somewhat stormy at times
as well , beach breaks are key and if the swell drops more the best
wave in the hood is definitely Hermosa and with the new direction its
been less closed out and the tree is starting to do its thing !!!
