NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Surf stays fun for the weekend, with waves chest to head
high from the NW. The next swell springs up from the NW on Monday,
pushing surf up to 1 foot overhead, with some infrequent bigger sets.
The size drops for Tuesday a foot, but should be consistently head
high + for both the northern and southern coasts throughout the week,
with a bump from a SSW that is sneaking up from Peru. The first pulse
from another SW should arrive a week from Monday.

Caribbean - Salsa will be smaller for this weekend's contest, waves
from head high to a foot overhead, maybe a two foot overhead set.
Sunday will be smaller, with surf chest to head high at the
beachbreaks. The next swell arrives Monday afternoon, from the ESE
and a surge from the NE bringing surf back up to 2-4' overhead by
Tuesday and Wednesday. This swell will slowly fade to head high surf
for next weekend.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

This fairly boxed off north swell has been hitting our area squarely
all week and diminishing from double overhead last week end to head
high on the sets on Thurs. Even with the smaller size, everyone is
enjoying the occasional perfection and deep tube rides are not
uncommon. The sand in Playa Grande is getting better and in the good
category. The off shore wind has been holding all day and backing off
to a feather during the better sessions.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The tide will be coming in at the Tamarindo Estero in the morning and
Grande will be high enough around noon for the three quarter push. If
the north swell continues to drop, it will probably turn into mini
barrel riding practice.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
If the northerly swell direction continues, try the Tamarindo end of
the bay for incoming tide and Grande at high and outgoing.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:
Ross Menking is recovering from a shark bite on the leg he received
in the remote San Juanillo area. Everybody wishes him a speedy
recovery and hopes to see him back in the water soon. For the rest of
us: No guts, no glory.

** From Diana, the best surf instructor in Tamarindo (according to
the editor):

Right now we haven't got much in the way of waves, but we sure have
wind! This week started out with huge waves and very strong south-
pulling currents. Ahorita no tenemos muchas olas pero si tenemos
viento!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
The Papagayo off-shores are too strong for mid-day session, but
things should look up for the weekend as the tide moves later into
the afternoon. Expect waist high surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
The sandbars we've got at present close out Tamarindo and a lot of
the beach over in Playa Grande when we get any size, so my suggestion
for the weekend is Langosta.
recomiendo Playa Langosta.

JACO & HERMOSA

** From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

Local Climate: Sunny, Air Temp: 95f, Water Temp: 85f, Wave Height &
Direction: SW 2-4ft. (back of the wave) Wind: Offshores, 0-5 mph
Sunrise: 6:00AM Sunset: 5:36 PM High Tide: 12:54 PM / 6.89 ft Low
Tide: 06:36 AM / 1.59 ft The swell seems to have dropped off a bit,
but we will see bigger sets in the high tide hours. We have a four
foot swell. There is little wind so, it looks like we are in for a
great afternoon session, PURA VIDA!!!! Costa Rica Extended Forecast:
2-4 ft. for the next week
