TIDES *for Friday - add 50 min. each day after

High Tide - 8.51 ft at 4:50 AM
Low Tide - .13 ft at 10:54 AM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - This weekend waves from the WSW will be in the head high to 2
foot
overhead range with a 14 second period until Sunday, when it drops
quickly back
to chest high+ by nightfall. Monday looks small, but expect the next SW
swell
to show up Tuesday afternoon, increasing the size back up to head high.
Signs
look good for a strong SW to fill in the later part of the week and the
weekend. Dawn patrols sound like the call for all beachbreaks.

Caribbean - Surf is expected to slowly drop from overhead to about
headhigh by
Saturday, chest high by Sunday, and waist to chest Monday morning. The
next
swell is expected to show up Tuesday afternoon, and by Wed. condition
will be
in the chest to head range with a short period. Swell will build for
the next
weekend to overhead.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Carrie at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande-

Two more words: Overhead barrels! One last word:
Offshore!!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

Let's hope the swell sticks around and the offshores continue to blow
all day!
We'll be looking at doublesessions at Grande with high tide hitting in
the
morning and the evening.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear

All up and down the beach at Grande, especially at the main peak and
just
south!

** From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

We've had a lot of variety in Tamarindo in the last week! It started
out very
small throughout the weekend with winds that strangely shifted on shore
in the
afternoons. A swell rolled in here Monday afternoon that gave us
beautiful
waves head high and over at the rivermouth but did a pretty good
close-out
number on the beach break beside. The "Swiss Pipe" has been breaking at
3 or 4
feet.
"Swiss
Pipe" ha estado quebrando a 3 o 4 pies.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

The swell seems to be diminishing and I don't know that we're expecting
anything big. It will be a great time for a morning/evening double
session no
matter what.
pase.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

Depending on the swell direction, the rivermouth may still be good.
Capitan
Suizo will probably quit when the swell dies down, but the other
direction,
across the estuary on the way to Grande I've spied some nice peaks.
camino a
Playa Grande he notado unos buenos puntos.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS - Noticias y dias especiales:

Happy ninth birthday to Hotel Pasatiempo! Gran fiesta con Los
Leatherbacks!!!
el sabado.

** From Steve at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa (Mal Pais) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:

Consistent swell at last this week with bigger sets well overhead and
barrels
at Sta Teresa. Swell has started to swing round and now has more W. Not
much
offshore later in the morning so it's been best early.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:

More of the same - with the possibility of some bigger waves

BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA:

Beachbreaks should all be working well if swell continues to come out
of the W.

** From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp out of Playa del Coco and
Tamarindo:

to surf
4 days of epic Ollie's/Witch's with the WRSC crew- every day from
Saturday

barrels-
the whole 9-yards.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -

Uhhhh- am I like the only one whos watching this giant South pull
together of
S.America or what? This weekend will see fun chest-shoulder high surf
at both
Witchs and Ollies- as mid-week next week comes around we will in for a
sick
south swell- at least head-high to double overhead- should be firing at
Ollie's.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

The waves are smaller today, but still chest high in Playa Hermosa.
Around
Tulin and Bejuco is bigger (head high). Low tide is around 11:00AM, so
the
earlier the better. Esterillos is also fun for the higher tide around
dawn. The
surf camp crew has been enjoying a pumping northwest swell the last few
days.

Surfed from 7 to 8 a.m. with offshores, waves from chest high to 1-2
foot
overhead on the sets. Fast, barreling, lots of closeouts. Last night
was great
for the high tide session, same size but with good form.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

By Sunday the size should start to drop, but high tide at around 6-7
a.m. will
make for some great 2 session surfs.

TIDES *for Friday - add 50 min. each day after

High Tide - 9.83 ft at 5:11 AM
Low Tide - (-1.09) ft at 11:19 AM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - This weekend, surf will be in the chest to head high range,
with a
few big sets rolling through, announcing swells arriving from the NW
and SW.
Those swell show with the incoming tide Monday morning, when surf grows
to a
foot overhead with a 13-14 second period. Tuesday and Wednesday expect
surf to
increase to 2+ overhead with a shorter 11 second period and lots of set
waves.
This should last into the weekend, but diminish back to head high by
next
Sunday. Dawn patrol at Negra sounds like a good plan.

Caribbean - Waves will be chest to head high for Saturday, with a short
8
second period. A new swell from the ENE files in head high + surf for
Sunday
afternoon and will stay in that range until next Tuesday. Lots of
showers
expected throughout the day.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Carrie at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande-

We had chest to head high waves today with bigger sets coming through
just
south of the main peak at Grande, where, unfortunately the crowd was
particularly diligent. The wind has been offshore all morning the last
two
days, with a switch to north or onshore by noon or one o'clock, ruining
the
surf.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

Let's hope the wind doesn't continue it's latest trend of switching to
onshore
by noon, since high tide is around noon tomorrow and we're not complete
without
that outgoing tide session!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

The main peak at Grande or just to the south of the main peak.

2) From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

The south west swell was small here, about waist high at the beach
between the
lifeguard tower and the river mouth. A few nice waves rolled in at the
river
today at high tide, but lacking much push, they were very short rides.
Langosta
doesn't really do much on a south swell but the walk to Grande showed
some nice
little peaks. The wind has been hard and off shore except this
afternoon it
seems to have switched.
Langosta no
unas
olas buenas.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

A lot of sun, a lot of wind and hopefully a few more waves in the next
several
days.
vienen.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

Probably more of the same: the beach north of the lifeguard tower, the
rivermouth and spots along the way to Grande are what's good when waves
come
from the south.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:

pueblo a
terminar, se dicen, con Los Leatherbacks.

3) From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp out of Playa del Coco and
Tamarindo:

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -

This last week we saw consistent shoulder-head high surf at Ollie's,
which has
been better all week with the predominant south swells. Yesterday (Fri
2-08)
saw an increase in the afternoon to head-high surf, with good offshore
winds
that weren't TOO hard.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -

The surf is now officially up. Today (Friday) is head-high with
overhead sets
at Ollie's, head-high at the Rock. We should see more waves Saturday, a
slight
drop Sunday (but still really fun)

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -

Ollie's- on the south swell, is all-time right now. Get on it.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-

4) From Gregory at Hotel Cafe de Paris in Nosara -

From three days the waves are small to inexistant here in Nosara.

TIDES *for Friday - add 50 min. each day after

High Tide - 9.83 ft at 5:11 AM
Low Tide - (-1.09) ft at 11:19 AM

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - By Saturday, surf should be consistent in the waist to chest
range,
with an occasional head high set rolling in every 15 minutes. The swell
appears
to be coming from the SW, and should increase in size by Sunday and
into next
week, with waves in the head high range, with foot overhead peaks at
the better
southern beachbreaks. High tides in the early a.m. make it great for a
2
session day. A larger short period swell forms offshore of southern
Nicarauga
and might give the northen Nicoya some nice waves for Monday.

Caribbean - The surf was ON for last weekend's contest, and it stays in
the
headhigh + range all weekend. Then on Monday it starts fading out, with
chest
to head high surf into the midweek and then dropping to waist to chest
high +
for Thursday and Friday.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

1) From Carrie at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande-

Small, small, and small again, all week long! The water's been
beautiful and
the offshores have been blowing consistently, but no swell to be seen!!
Thursday afternoon and evening showed a bit of a bump in the water,
much
appreciated for wave-starved surfers.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

Let's hope there's a good swell on the way, because the tides are right
for
double sessions, and the offshore winds are blowing consistently.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

The main peak at Grande will have waves if there's anything to be
had!!!!

2) From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

We haven't really had any waves to speak of in Tamarindo this week--a
lot of
wind, but no waves. Pico Pequeno at high tide shows only the tiniest
wash of
whitewater.
alta.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

According to predictions we may see it pick up a little on Sunday, but
it seems
like it will be a good weekend to do a little work around the house or
dust off
the running shoes.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear
este
fin de semana en su area:

At best we'll have small rideable surf near the river in the early
mornings
while the tide is high and the wind is calm. I predict a good weekend
for road
trips south!
buen fin
de semana para viajes al sur.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:

New boards in our surf shop: 7'6"Corkey Carroll fun board and 6'1"
Ratboy short
board, both in tuff-lite! Gracias, Alejandro!

3) From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp out of Playa del Coco and
Tamarindo:

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -

This WEEK has been WEAK. Not much surf for a few days, waist-to-chest
high at
Ollies on the good sets, the same at Witch's Rock.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -

Finally today (Thursday 1-31) the surf picked up to shoulder high!
Friday-Sunday should be back to solid shoulder to head high, and with
these
offshore winds we're going to get some epic surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -

The new swell that will start to fill in tomorrow and saturday is
south,
meaning Ollie's will of course rule. Witch's as well, in front of the
rivermouth/estuary seeing solid shoulder-head high rights and lefts.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-

WRSC has a large schoolbus that has been transformed into a motorhome,
and is

JACO & HERMOSA

6) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -

The waves are glassy again this morning, but not much swell is showing
at all.
Tulin or Bejuco will be showing the biggest waves today, around waist
to chest
high. Hopefully the wind will stay off of it. High tide this afternoon
is
around 5:00PM. Since the waves are flat and the moon is full, fishing
has been
on the menu. Good Luck. Dennis Christopher and Tobit McLean, are doing

5) From Greg at the Adventure Education Center in Dominical-

It's a repeat from last week - "Surf has been as small as waist high,
but fun
with consistent sets up to head high out in front. Great weather with
little
rain, and nice early offshore winds." Perfect sunsets!!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):

Swell should fill in from the SW by Sunday, sending up some 1 foot
overhead
waves. Check it early since high tides are in the morning :)
