AREA REPORTS -

NICOYA (N)
(1) Patti at Best Western, Tamarindo Vista Villas - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Gunacaste is showing 2-4 feet at most breaks. Lite offshores and switching to onshore early in the afternoon. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): a slight south swell is slowly coming up from South America. By Sunday, we should have 4-6' waves rolling in at south facing breaks. Weather, switching out of Indian summer breaking possible rain and onshores by Monday. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: It's coming from the south, Mal Pais, Playa Negra and Playa Avellannes may pick up the swell by Sunday. NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS: It's a 150 day countdown to the year 2000 at the Monkey Bar Best Western Tamarindo. Robert August and the boys are in town and heading the the "Rabbit" contest.

(2) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Today the swell dropped to just overhead and the constant off shores that have made the surf so good this week stopped blowing by noon and came on shore. We still got about an hour of glassy waves before it blew out. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): Daybreak sessions will begin to be possible by Sat., thus giving us the possibility of two high tide surf sessions every day. The morning sessions should be off shore and possible showers in the afternoon will help the shape in the afternoon. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: As long as the swell stays small, the area around the hotel are the best possibility. As it gets larger, the cleaner waves move towards the Tamarindo end of the bay.

(3) Steve from Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa - WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS. A powerful SW swell over the weekend with sets at 6' at Sta Teresa, not big or clean enough for reefs. Dropped to head high by Wednesday evening with occasional 4' sets. Squally weather has prevented surf cleaning up for the a.m. sesh a couple of times. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND: Looks like more of the same, hoping that the weather stabilises to bring us a few days of fun, clean surf. BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA THIS WEEKEND: Playa Carmen still has too much new sand in the line up to hold shape for the bigger stuff. Santa Teresa is the spot that's still working best round the tides. Best call is Teresa a.m. and Carmen if it glasses off in the evening and isn't too big.

(4) Hola, desde Hotel Fuego del Sol, Playa Hermosa. http://fuegodelsol.com We are under medium conditions right now around (4ft.(backs)<--That's how we do it from now on, OK, Thanks!) My reports are calling for a Zlander to hit us sometime late today or, tomorrow. We have been fortunate enough to recieve a blunt of the summer from the Southwest. Expect, the ALLSTAR spots on your "westie" beaches to be GOING OFF! Looks like another 6-8 ft. of sparkling Southwest at those spots mentioned. Islands Born of Fire Pura Vida!!!!!

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO (QMA)
(5) From Todd at Alacran Surf Tours - The condtions this week in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area have been a bit slow. Area wave heights have not exceeded anything over chest high. This weekend everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for the southwest swell that is supposed to moving today, Thursday, July 22. If this swell report is accurate, we can expect the masses in 5-8+ range as top spots hit 12'+. This swell is supposed to continue through the weekend, slowing down a bit on Sunday and into the early part of next week. As far as weather this weekend, based on how it has been this week, you can expect nice sunny mornings with a good chance of afternoon showers. Although, we could get lucky and have starry skies with a beautiful almost 3/4 moon. The best surf areas this weekend would be Playitas in Manuel Antonio, Damas rivermouth, Del Rey, and some of the beach breaks north of Quepos such as Esterillos and Bejuco. *Don't forget about your local surf shop in Quepos, Burro Surf Shop. Here your are able to buy all surf accessories, surf clothing, etc..Also, for ding repairs and customized made surf boards, visit TULE aprox five minutes south of Quepos on the road to the Quepos hospital and airport.

AREA REPORTS -

NICOYA (N)
(1) Patti at Best Western, Tamarindo Vista Villas - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Steady stream of SW swells coming through the weekend. Waves should be 4-7 on SW breaks. A SW shows on Thursday and another comes in on Saturday. Glassy and clean as the offshores are catching up to the am high tide. High tide on Friday 5:00am WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): Similar SW swell that has been holding all week, bringing fun board wave conditions on SW breaks. Should hold through the weekend, when a new line of souths start building mid week. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Clean surf "T Bay", Playa Grande mid day. Little Hawaii & Avellannes rivermouth low tide. NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS: It's another weekend of music at Best WEstern Vista Villas - Whiskey for Indians this Saturday night.

(2) From Louis Wilson at Hotel Las Tortugas at Playa Grande - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: The waves have been running head, to slightly overhead, the last few days with increasingly cleaner swell conditions. Today we surfed at daybreak as the tide dropped. It was glassy and very hollow. There was an occassional perfect wave, both rights and lefts. Even though the wind is slightly onshore in the afternoon, conditions are still good for the 4 PM high tides. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): We are hoping for the traditional "Indian Summer" off shores and expect good conditions as the high tides move into the morning. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: As long as the swell runs small, the break in front of Las Tortugas hotel and Chicken Head rock should be good. If it picks up, we'll move down toward the Tamarindo end of the bay.

(3) From Thierry at Café del Paris in Nosara - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: WE HAVE AN INCREDIBLE SWELL THAT HITS NOSARA 3 DAYS AGO. WE HAVE WAVES 6 TO 10 FEET HIGH. THE BEST TIME IS 10 AM WITH A MIDDLE TIDE FOR GUIONES. PELADA BEACH HAS BARRELS AT HIGH TIDE, 5-7' HIGH. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): SWELL WILL STAY , PERHAPS A LITTLE BIT SMALLER. 5-7' WITH NICE SHAPE. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: PELADA BEACH AT HIGH TIDE

(4) Steve from Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS & CONDITIONS: After an 8' SW swell over the weekend which walled out beachbreaks and had points & reefs working, the surf has dropped gradually through the week and is now 2 - 4'. Mornings have been glassy until 11.00, surfable in the evening. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND: SSW swell forecast on this site last week, weather should continue fine, a.m. glassy. BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA THIS WEEKEND: If swell is big, point or SW facing reefs should be best. SE reefs may get surf. If swell continues as now, Santa Teresa should have fun waves a.m., Playa Carmen p.m..

JACO & HERMOSA (JH)
(5) From Hotel Fuego del Sol- http://fuegodelsol.com - BIG Hello from Playa Hermosa de Jaco! We have a SW that is giving us overhead conditions. The Camp surfed Hermosa and some other points. We will have high tide Friday at 4 p.m. Get out and get some. Pura Vida!!!!!

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO (QMA)
(6) From Jota at Alacran Surf Tours in Manuel Antonio - Swell enters Friday. Good waves in Playitas, not much wind, clean rights and lefts. Shoulder to head high with overhead sets rollin through. Overall, long clean rides. Saturday, surf plagued by wind. Cleaner in morning at Playitas and afternoon chop avails. Reports of good waves at Soda Langosta, however smaller in size. Sunday biggest day of swell. High tide around 12:30. Once again on-shore wind is present but good size waves rollin through. Biggest waves in Playitas, 6ft. in size. Smaller but much cleaner waves in front of Mar & Sombra. Good waves in Quepos, long three to four foot lefts. Watch out for floating logs. Monday thru Wednesday size of waves reduces still producing good waves however in Bajos and Playitas, not overhead but solid three foot waves. Would love to see another swell as surf is shifting to aftertoon to early evening to morning surf this week.

(7) From David at Escuela D'Amore in Quepos - ¿Cuánto miden las olas y cómo son sus condiciones?

And now in ENGLISH -

Good, if the conditions stay the same, but next weekend we'll have better surf and weather than this month. WHICH IS THE BEST PLACE FOR SURF IN YOUR AREA THIS WEEKEND? Playa Negra will be a good option or the Ranch in Junquillal or more to the south in Ostional. 4. Today the swell has risen and sets are overhead. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND: Swell looks like it is building and moving round to the SW, weather should continue fine. Should be an excellent weekend. WHERE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA THIS WEEKEND: With the high tide moving round to late morning, the incoming tide at Playa Carmen is the best bet. Another SW pulls in behind the wed. swell and Friday surf should stay in the 4-7 range along the Pacific exposed SW breaks. Stormy conditions Wed, should improve by Thursday. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): Passing late afternoon showers will come in Thur-Sun. Winds variable throughout the weekend. More swell coming in Monday. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Playa Grande is picking up and should have some swell by Thursday. Ollie's and Witch's onshore, but may switch with the incoming swell on Thur. Playa Avellanes and Playa Negra usually the best bet on the SW swell. NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS: 4th of july bash at Best Western Tamarindo - Horsehorse Tournament, Texas Barbecue, fun and games and rock & roll to the Leatherbacks.

(2) From Pukas at Hotel Antumalal in Junquillal - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Las olas estan entre los 6 y 8 pies fuertes y muy rapidas.

**In ENGLISH** 1. The waves are between 6-8 feet, fast and strong. Avellanas is the same. Junquillal, in front of our hotel is breaking with a good left. Negra is marvelous, but has a lot of surfers on it. The weather is typical rainy season. 2. Conditions are very unstable since the morning winds are good offshores, but usually changing in the afternoon making the ocean choppy. This weekend the waves should be a little larger. The Ranch is personally the best for gaping holes for tube lovers. I recommend Negra, Avellanas, and the Ranch since it isn't that secret of a spot. We are on a strategic point where you can get to whichever great surf break to surf. (Nosara - 1 hour south, Negra/Avellanas - 40 minutes north)

(3) Thierry from Café de Paris in Nosara - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: 3-4 feet, nice shape at low tide, kind of bumpy at high tide. Off shore and glassy WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): A nice swell is expecting tuesday night to be the best on friday/saturday. We have sunny day with some rain at night, nice off shore breeze BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Guiones cementery, check at Pelada if the swell is big

(4) Steve from Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Swell dropped considerably this week, head high with some overhead sets. More to the point it has cleaned up considerably with some good mornings at Santa Teresa. Weather continues wet with night and some morning rains. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND: SW swell predicted, hopefully it will be clean this time. Weather should clear up - it has been unusually wet for this time of year. BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA THIS WEEKEND With high tide moving into the early morning, Playa Carmen should be best for dawn patrol, hopefully the sandbars in front of the lodge will have sorted themselves out. Santa Teresa as the tide starts to go out.

JACO & HERMOSA (JH)
(5) From Hotel Fuego del Sol- http://fuegodelsol.com - Hello, we have a southwest that is giving us overhead conditions. The camp surfed an overhead Tulin this morning; but it's doubled in size since then. So, now the only bet is Da Reefs. We will have high tide around 4 p.m. Get out and get some. It's getting BIG!!!!

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO (QMA)
(6) From David at Escuela D'Amore in Quepos - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Esta semana las olas han estado midiendo 2.16 pies en marea baja y 8.08 con marea alta.

**In ENGLISH** 1. This week the tides ranged from 2.16 to 8.08 feet. The wave conditions have been smooth and glassy, but not too consistent. 2. For the weekend, it will probably rain during the evening, at least as it has done for the last few days, but I believe the waves will still be nice. 3. For the last two weeks, the rumors have it that Damas Island at the rivermouth, has been the best with large and strong surf, "board breakers" 4. No events now, but some advice, if you want to visit us, here you can have fun - learn spanish - and get to know tons of surfing friends. This is the best advice that I can give.

DOMINICAL & SOUTHERN PACIFIC (D)
(7) From Hotel Rio Lindo in Dominical - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Waves have been coming in at the beachbreak at 8 to 10 feet with a lot of closeouts. Rain most afternoons into the early evening. Rumor has it that Pavones is crowded, but worth it. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND: The swell will drop to around head high until the next swell arrives by Monday. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Stay at the beachbreak until next Tuesday, then drive south. Paddle out early and before dark.
