AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

(1) Patti at Best Western, Tamarindo Vista Villas - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Friday we should have 4-6 hitting sw facing breaks. Winds are causing mushy surf. Hopefully will clean up with the incoming SW swell on Friday. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): Weekend surf should be 4-6 thru Monday. Weather - rainy season pattern, afternoon showers with offshore winds. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Playa Grande should pick up on swell. Best two hours before and after high tide. Witch's may be an option on Sunday. Playa Avellanes if you dare to chance the roads. Playa Negra, use the Santa Cruz entrance....Beach access a long haul. (2) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: the swell has been running at about headhigh, with morning offshores, for the last few days. It's slightly junky with occassionally good sections and makeable waves. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): the tides are moving into the afternoon so we'll be dependent on a fluky afternoon glass off BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: The Tamarndo river mouth for incoming and in front of the hoyel for outgoing tide if it glasses off. NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS: The turtles are nesting on Playa Grande.

(3) From Steve at Tropicos Latino at Santa Teresa - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS & CONDITIONS: Weather cleared up this week and there have been clean chest high conditions on the beachbreaks with the onshores starting relatively late in the morning and some days with decent conditions in the afternoons. Sand bars at Playa Carmen improving. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND: No sign of any groundswell around here - the SW swells should start to drop off a little now that summer is only 6 weeks away. Check weather before coming down! BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA THIS WEEKEND: Low tide in the morning makes Sta Teresa the best bet *****UPDATE - Swell has come up in the morning with the tide. Sets are overhead. (10-7)*****
