AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)
(1) Patti at Best Western, Tamarindo Vista Villas - she is stuck in San Jose since the weather has kept SANSA from flying to Tamarindo.
(2) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: The surf is running around head high andstormy. Some surfable conditions in the afternoon in glassy conditions, but bumpy and disorganized. Yesterday there was an occasional barreling, just overhead, left in the afternoon as the winds shifted to north-offshore and blew into the lefts. Today the weather got worse. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): The chances for a decent session increase as we move into the weekend with the high tides in the morning. Watch the weather disturbance in the Carribean and don't expect much if it holds. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: In front of the hotel NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS: The leatherback turtles are beginning to arrive at Playa Grande for their nesting ritual in the evening.
(3) From Steve at Tropicos Latino at Santa Teresa - WAVE HEIGHTS & CONDITIONS: Once again a 4 day temporal blew out the SW swell over the weekend. Weather cleared up on Tuesday with the swell dropping to a clean 4-5'. This morning is sideshore with chest high waves out of the West. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:Everything depends on the weather - suggest you check forecast for the Central Pacific region, if you're planning on coming down here. Roads are holding up well.BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND:Tide will be high a.m., Playa Carmen or Sta Teresa early in the morning to avoid the onshores

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO (QMA)
(8) From Alacran Tours in Manuel Antonio - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: This past week's swell brought in strong surf in the Manuel Antonio region from Friday to Sunday. Waves were shoulder high to overhead in Playitas. Rain and wind created choppy conditions at times. Monday we had good waves futher south towards Mar y Sombra with head high waves and offshore winds w/ clean lefts and rights with narrow tubes WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): With no signs of a big swell for the upcoming week, we are expecting shoulder high at high tide in Playitas and waist high further south. BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: As this swell dimishes, check out nearby El Rey or Bejuco for challenging waves (and a little of a paddle!); Playitas should be solid with favorable winds; just before tide, head into Quepos for a slow, left (nice longboard ride) NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS: Alacran Surf Tours is organizing Spring Break trips to Costa Rica through over 20 universities in the States along with a student travel agency.
