The Caribbean starts out big, then gets fickle by Monday afternoon and fades out completely by Tuesday. Wednesday is the waist high wait day, then Thurday a ESE swell appears with head high sets. Friday is back to well overhead, but it doesn't last past dusk, for the weekend doesn't bring more waves. For the Pacific side, a nice SW swell brings overhead surf for Monday, but by Tuesday gets inconsistent, and by Wednesday your wanting more. But no other major swell will arrive this weekend or early next week, leaving some weak chest to head high leftovers. (a foot smaller up north)

AREA REPORTS

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (1/26) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The head high + surf here has great shape and all day off shores. The sand is not as good as it could be and the high tides are a little fat and throwing some bounce in it.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The potential for great surf increases as the high tide moves into mid-morning sessions and decreases in height.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Pick your peak.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (1/26)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf here at Playa Negra has been in the really fun zone at head high plus with good shape. Offshore wind and sunny skies everyday. Water temp is 80 degrees.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): More of the same. It will back off a little and then pick right back up the first part of this week to head high plus as a fresh SW swell moves into this part of the coast. More perfect beach weather in store for the foreseeable future.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Playa Negra has been fun but a fair crowd out there. Try Playa Avellanas early for a session with less people and big time fun waves.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Check out the Playa Negra slide shows at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (1/26)

the surf is looking fun this morning, but it could have some more power... the form is good and sets are shoulder high. Magic is actually saying that a good direction 5ft swell is headed our way today, so you should start seeing that if you haven't already...
