AREA REPORTS (sent in on 2/3 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Our beautiful head high surf degenerated into on shore, inconsistent, sloppy fun as the tides moved into the late afternoon this week. Today (Sat.) was the first day of dawn patrol and starts us off on another cycle of positive surf forecasts and dual sessions.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The wind is ideal for the up coming week and the water is still warm. A bump in the swell would be ideal for both morning and evening high tides.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The smaller waves are all up and down the beach with the rare, larger waves coming in at the main peak just south of the hotel. A good session or two was reported from the rock at the north end of the beach.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Waves here at Playa Negra are knee to waist high. Nice warm offshores in the mornings and a cool onshore breeze in the afternoons.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): A bump. That's what they are calling it. A bit of a increase from the NW should bring the surf to waist to shoulder high sets. Backs down by mid week with another bump for next weekend.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: We have high tide running through the mornings this week and with almost no swell out there, longboards are the call at either Playa Negra or Playa Avellanas.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: If you would like to see what Playa Negra used to look like back when we had waves, check out www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Harry at Coconut Harrys Surf Shop in Playa Guiones -

Take last week's report and just COPY it! Waist to chest - occasionally bigger around the in-coming tide. Lots of fun if you need to practice on that longboard. Pura Vida, Coconut Harry

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Boy oh Boy do I hate flat spells ¡ But its not flat here ¡ 3/5 ft faces and kind of fun at Tulin today , tide changes give you an hour either way of low tide and I even got a bit of a tube in the a.m. ! Jacos okay for the log but no shortie riders out there for sure ! Come surfing , the weathers fine and the waters warm ! Pura Vida, Chuck and the CREW !

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Finally, we got some head high waves today. Mid-tide seems to make the best wave.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): Looks like we might even get bigger waves through Monday, but don't count on too much more. At best, I think the head high sets will come in more frequently.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Be aware that the fisherman are going nuts at the river mouth. Be careful surfing here at the lower tides (when the fishermen like to fish). We had 40 lines in the water this morning (yes, I counted them as I've never seen so many fishing here before) and although I've never known anyone to get tangled up in a fishing line, I'd hate to be the first.

** From Marco at Hotel Resort Totem in Playa Cocles -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: 5 - 7 pies, NE swell

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): sol y ola

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: salsa brava
