AREA REPORTS (sent in on 12/16 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: We are enjoying a fabulous Westerly swell with amazing surf all over the bay. The well over head swell is hitting Tamarindo perfectly and with good form, although smaller, up and down the beach. The off shores are holding into the afternoon.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell is losing strength but conditions are good for some great smaller surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Every spot looked good today and the crowd was well spread out for fun conditions. It's actually larger at the Tamarindo Estuary for a change.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Ask at the hotel about the student's quarters and apartments for unbelievable bargains during the high season in Playa Grande right in front of the main breaks.

** From Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo (12/17)-

Keith has dengue and has been in bed for the last four days, so I'm writing the report to get everyone caught up. We've had tons of swell now, today is day 9 and it is currently 6-8 foot face waves in front of the camp, maybe even bigger on the biggest sets. The wind has been blowing offshore until about 1pm or so. We've got a big surf contest in town and it has been great to have swell for it, Cedric, Carlos and Luis have all made it to the final round. Hopefully Keith gets better soon as I suck at taking photos. If you read Wednesday's report, its a little smaller than Wednesday but there is still tons of swell in the water. It seems like we should continue to have waves for a few more days. Click here to see the new webcam and pics from today's forecast.

** From Harry at Coconut Harrys Surf Shop in Playa Guiones -

We're getting that north swell, but not ALL of it, so waves are fun - not big - but pretty good shape. Best times are, as always, dawn to 10:00 or 11:00 am and then the last hour at sunset - clean & light offshore winds. "Felix Navi-daddy-o", amigos! Coconut Harry www.coconutharrys.com

** From John at Lyman Photos in Playa Negra/Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: We have had unseasonal rain the last few days. The storms have made the surf sloppy and unorganized. Waist to head high with hard onshores in the afternoons.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The surf will be staying in the head high range through the first part of the upcoming week. Mid week will see an increase in SW swell and is forecast to get even bigger for next weekend.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: We have a pretty low low tide running through the mornings this week. Negra will be very good if swell is hitting the reef from the right direction. Could be a real rock dance though. Check out Langosta or the Avellanas rivermouth. It will be fun there with less crowd.

** From Erik, with the Nosara surf report -

Fun surf again today! Sets overhead, clean. Most folks blew it by surfing too far south, as the N. Side of the bay was firing...

The Nosara Surf Team, a local surf team that rewards young surfers who stay in school and help their community needs donations! On your next trip down please help us by bringing any old baggies, leashes, lycras, boards, ect... to help our surf team. Surf supplies are hard to get and expensive in Costa Rica, and your junk would make some local groms super stoked! You can drop off supplies at Wanderlust Realty or email me for details here . Thanks, Erik.
