CR Surf Report for 11-13-06

Costa Rica's Weekly Surf Report
Volume 8, Issue 357
November 13th, 2006

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The week starts small, chest high for most of the coast with the rarest head high set. Then Tuesday a few overhead sets come in and by Wednesday overhead is the call, headhigh up north. Thursday the swell peaks in the morning with the rising tide - 1 foot overhead sets arriving every 15 minutes from a double SW and SSW swell. Friday the SW drops off but it's still overhead. By Saturday it's back down to head high, once again a foot smaller up north of Nosara.

Caribbean - The brief punch of head high swell dies quickly on Monday down to waist high by sunset. Then it's knee high for the rest of the week. Break out that snorkeling gear through Saturday.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 11/11 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The waves have been running head high to just over head with occasional decent shape (unusually good for this time of the year). The afternoon showers are helping to glass it off. There have been a few days this week that never cleaned up at all. There was some run off silt in the water on Thurs., but we haven't been hit by "chocolate milk" surf yet.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Now that high tide is moving into the morning hours, conditions should improve. We are not encouraging people to come out here right now, but you can take your chances with the light crowds.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The swells are coming straight in and anywhere in the bay that's smooth is a possibility.

** From Keith at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo (11/10)-

Today, the surf school went to La finca for their graduation trip. the waves were about chest high on the sets, which was bigger than here in tamarindo today. When we first got there, it was glassy, but after a couple hours or so, the wind turned onshore and chopped it up some. It was fun overall though. There may not be surf reports for about the next week, as I am going to peru with a bunch of the guys. Someone may take over for me while i'm gone...but maybe not..

** From John at Lyman Photos in Playa Negra/Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf has been small. Robbie says flat. Sunny mornings though with clouds in the afternoon. You can just feel the end of the rainy season that wasn't, just around the corner.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The surf is going to pick up out of the SW. Look for it to start showing Saturday and should be well overhead by this coming Tuesday. It should stay that way into next weekend.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: We have high tide running through the morning this week so wait for the swell to start showing and head to Langosta. If it is too crowded for you there, try a few of the spots just south of there. Very uncrowded.

Come on in and see the new TUFLITE 2s we just got in 100% waterproof and high memory blanks and feel so good in the hands ! Anyways alls good here and we would love to see you ! ** From Rancho Coral in Playa Esterillos -

Local Climate: Nice, Air Temp: 94F. Water Temp 87F, Direction & Height: South Southwest 2 to4 feet, Sea Surface: Glassy, Winds: South 3 MPH. Current Conditions: We have good swell for this weekend's Reef Classic Latin Pro. The Ticos are all advancing against some real hot surfers from all over Latin America. All Rancho Coral Groms passed through to the semi finals and we are hoping for a big finish from our Juniors. Also we had big performances and the day's highest wave score from Gilbert Brown (Men's) and our very own Carlos Munoz (Juniors) great job guys. The Miss Reef contest is tonight along with some concerts on the beach if you are out already you will have a great time. Competitors we will see you bright and early for the Finals bueno noche y Pura Vida!
