CR Surf Report for 12-6-05

Costa Rica's Weekly Surf Report
Volume 8, Issue 311
December 6th, 2005

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The small surf continues all week, waist to chest high -
fun for longboarding with the dropping tides. The 'toes on the nose'
surf does not pick up until next Wed., with a far reaching SW swell
pushing it up to head high. Then next Thursday a NW swell shoots a
few overhead sets every half hour, and that swell keeps it head high
through next weekend.

Caribbean - The first strong East swell winds up in the Caribbean
Sea, growing from waist high surf on Monday to headhigh on
Wednesday. It hits fully on Thursday, with surf 1-2 foot overhead
but drops down a foot Friday. Saturday and Sunday will have more 1-2
foot overhead waves.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 12/3)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
Exactly as predicted, the slightly weird Westerly swell hit on
Thurs. Fun, head high and off shore, surf in spite of the annoying
ripple. Light crowds - very little Tamarindo spill over due to the
nasty road conditions and some swell getting in inside the bay.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): If the wind doesn't swing to a
slightly less northerly direction, the cross chop will continue to
blemish otherwise excellent head high sets.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The focus areas are markedly
skewed with the most consistent peak on Thurs. just north of Las
Tortugas Hotel and the smoother waves at the north end of Playa
Grande arouind Chicken Head Rock. Dual sessiones will begin on Sun.
with the daybreak go out.

** From Travis's blog at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

Waist high waves and off shore breezes today made for the long
boarders smile and the short boarders yawn. The current SW swell is
definitely waning and is expected to continue to do so.
Hopefully, there is something on the horizon. Right now, it doesn't
look like much... At least it isn't raining! Pura Vida, Travis Call -

** From John Lyman at Pablos Picasso in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
The surf has been on the small side the past few days. Waist to
chest high with head high sets coming every once in a while.
Absolutely gorgeous mornings with offshore wind and super low tides.
Great for tide pooling.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The surf here at Playa Negra will
be best on the incoming tides. This week will see high tides in the
early morning so dawn patrol for small perfect longboard waves.
Where are the crowds? Must be in Tamarindo.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Playa Negra in front of the
hotel on the higher tides and maybe Avellanas Rivermouth on the
lower tides if there is enough swell. Should be at least chest high.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Now available!
2006 Costa Rica Surfing Calendars. Also available, The Waves Of
Costa Rica and Sunsets Of Costa Rica. Check them out and order yours
before the Christmas rush.

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Playa Nosara -

Surf is about head-high here with a mix of both NW and SW waves, so
a bit inconsistent at times. Best times are mid to rising high and
NOT around the low tides. Check out the new DVD on Pavones:
http://www.junglejuicefilm.com/

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
The swell has backed down. The small 4 foot waves rolling in, soft
peaks, good form. Best conditions are right after high tide, the
waves clean up a bit and aren't as full. Easier to catch. Choppy and
windy with the rain. Occasional off shore winds, for perfect wave
conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell expected to hold over
the weekend, but will back down to the normal 4 to 5 foot waves
during high tides, and nice whitewater during low tides. Lots of
waves to catch, good inside and outside break., Some chop but nice
and glassy after the rainstorms.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds or localism, with a nice clean perfect wave. LONG RIDES THIS
WEEK!
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: The conditions
in Samara are bigger now, great for intermediate and advanced
surfers, so all surfers can come enjoy Samara.!! Also if you've
always wanted to learn surfing come on down or over! Always great
whitewater for beginner lessons! Pura Vida

** From Tommy at Rancho Coral in Playa Esterillos - (11/29)

Local Climate: Drizzle/Partly Sunny, Air Temp: 91F. Water Temp 85F,
Direction & Height: South 4-6ft., Sea Surface: Glass, Wind: Offshore
0-5 MPH, Sunrise: 5:31 AM, Sunset: 5:36 PM; Current Condition:
Congratulations to our Groms for winning their divisions and Cali
second in Juniors. We have a boost today giving us surf up to six
feet. It's going off at Rancho Coral today, Pura Vida!

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
Shoulder high waves coming mixed from the south and straight in.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): It looks like what little we have
will be shrinking to nothing. I've rarely seen such calm from LOLA.
Get your long boards ready.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Looks like it would be best
to go to Tahiti.
