NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Extreme tide shifts this week so expect so major drift and
current. 1-2 foot overhead surf Monday and Tuesday from the SSW with
a 14 second period. Then on Wednesday a combo SW and West swell
smack the Guanacaste coast, pushing surf up to 3-5 foot overhead on
the sets. This lasts through Friday morning, before dropping slowly
down to a foot overhead by Sunday. Next Monday through Wednesday
look small, head high to overhead at best.

Caribbean - Getting smaller - from waist high down to flat by
Wednesday. Nothing expected all the way to the weekend. Some more
waist high surf expected by next Monday. The forecast can change
quickly as tropical storms can form off the coast or cross over from
the Pacific.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 9/18)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
The week started off with perfect overhead surf for several days.
Even though the offshore wind has held all week to everyones
surprise, the swell has been too large and tricky to surf
comfortably for the last few days.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
High tide is now
moving into the afternoon and the wind will become a major factor.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: We have been slipping down
into the bay toward Tamarindo and sending our guests to Avellanas
river mouth for low tide barrels in the early morning.

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
It's pretty crazy out there today! A big south swell is peaking out
and unfortunately closing out at a lot of places too. Pico Pequeno
was breaking right this morning half way to Zullymar. Wave height is
between chest to a foot overhead and the wind is off shore.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell is supposed to be
peaking out today, but the waves should linger around through the
weekend. If the wind keeps up this pattern, you'll be able to surf
in Tamarindo all day long and that's unusual!
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Pico Pequeno is great right
now, the rivermouth works at mid tides and Langosta has got to be
gigantic.

** From Travis at Witch Rick Surf Camp in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: It was another weekend full of
chest to head high waves in Guanacaste. Off-shore winds have
continued to bless our beaches, though not as frequently as last
week. It was another epic day at Witch's and Ollie's on Friday and
the SW swell that arrived Tuesday night has
continued to pound the coast with overhead waves. The tides haves
shifted so that high tide is in the middle of the day making the low
tide breaks better for early morning & sunset sessions. The "green"
season has however, reared its rainy head once again creating some
afternoon glass-offs at the high tide spots.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) We are getting hit
pretty hard right now with more of the same on the horizon. Thursday
and Friday are featuring a new swell which should give way to an
even larger swell, due to arrive Wednesday morning.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - All the beaches in
Northern Costa Rica should have, at least, head high waves this
weekend. The direction of the swell(s) should allow for bigger waves
at all of the following breaks: Playa Grande – GRANDE Avellanas –
River Mouth in the morning, reef in the afternoon. Negra - likely to
be very big. Witch's Rock & Ollie's Point won't be for the faint of
heart with 10 feet of swell. Plan your boat trip according to your
confidence level, and your ability to replace your board!
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- WRSC has recently added a TV "AS BIG AS
YOUR ASS" behind the bar. You can now watch our homemade surf videos
and special features while eating a ridiculous amount of nachos and
sipping on your favorite libation. We are also featuring the musical
stylings of Navil Rodriguez on Friday nights. WRSC is the best place
in town to cap off a great day of surfing or to start your night off
right. We'll see you here! Pura Vida y Buenas Olas! Travis Call -
Positive Vibe Technician - Witch's Rock Surf Camp

** From John Lyman Photos at Pablo's Picasso with the Playa Negra
surf report:
The surf has been big and mixed up. Onshore winds most of the day
with victory at sea conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The surf will be coming down a
bit and if the wind cooperates it could be really good.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: I'm going to Little Hawaii
for the low tide bombs with just a few of my friends.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: John Lyman
Photos will be shooting all this week at Playa Negra and Playa
Avellanas. Get a cool surfing photo of you. Check it out.

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -
The swell is back! Big 5 to 6 foot waves, good form.7 foot close
outs rolling in on the outside. Nice sunset sesh for beginners,
perfect whitewater to practice on. Choppy and windy with the rain.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell expected to hold over
the weekend, but will back down to the normal 4 to 5 foot waves
during high tides, and nice whitewater during low tides. Lots of
double waves rolling in, pretty choppy but glassy after the
rainstorms.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds or localism, with a nice clean perfect wave. LONG RIDES THIS
WEEK!
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: The conditions
in Samara are bigger now, great for intermediate and advanced
surfers, so all surfers can come enjoy Samara. Waves are perfect for
beginners right now, so if you've always wanted to learn surfing
come on down or over! Pura Vida

** From Rancho Coral in Playa Esterillos -
Local Climate: Rainny, Air Temp: 91F. Water Temp 87F, Direction &
Height: South 6 ft., Sea Surface: Glass, Wind: South 0-3 MPH,
Sunrise: 5:31 AM, Sunset: 6:12 PM, Current Condition: We have a big
south on the way again this week, Pura Vida!

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -
The waves are big but not as big as we were expecting. They are
about double overhead on average but closing out and sloppy. I
haven't been down to the point but imagine that is where all the
surfers are (or at Pavones).
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): I imagine that every day this
swell goes by the waves will get better. They need to be a bit
smaller for the beach to work and I think that will happen Saturday.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
but have been to busy to get down there.
