NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The smaller chest to head high surf Saturday will pick up
a foot on Sunday, with a great dawn patrol planned with swells
running a 15 second period. By Monday south swell surf will be be a
foot overhead on the north coast, and some 2 foot overhead sets show
up along the southern beaches. Tuesday it starts to fade, and by
Wednesday it's down to headhigh at best. Thursday and Friday look
chest high and another south swell pulse pushes it back up to
headhigh next Saturday. Not to be too big the following week, only
headhigh to overhead but clean conditions.

Caribbean - Flat all weekend and through next week, with some knee
high relief Friday morning, but nothing to brag about. Great
snorkeling and diving conditions! (www.cashewhilllodge.co.cr)

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 8/26)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
Today (Fri.) we had some of the prettiest head high surf I've seen
in
awhile. The wind was decidedly off shore, clear water, and a few
polite surfers to share it with.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este
fin de semana (clima y olas): High tides are in the morning and late
afternoon so conditions look pretty good for at least one session.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: All the peaks out front are
working in spite of the marginal sand.

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
There's not much in the way of waves today, but we're between two
south swells. Waves this morning were waist high and tomorrow it's
supposed to start picking up again. The mornings and afternoons have
been off-shore this week with a few late-afternoon or evening rain
storms.
empezara a crecer otra vez.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): By tomorrow evening we should see
the swell picking up and Sunday is predicted to be great. The tide
is in the morning so even the wind should be perfect.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
swells and if you want really big waves check Langosta on Saturday
evening and Sunday morning.

** From Travis at WItchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Last weekend was beautiful for
surfers in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Offshore winds and chest high
waves made for a lot of fun around here. We are "between swells" at
the moment, with the next one set to arrive this Saturday. Morning
and Sunset sessions have been perfect over the last several days
with a rainstorm coming through, almost everyday, at 4pm; just to
calm down the wind for the perfect, glassy sunset.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - This weekend's
swell is likely to produce head-high waves. Expect more rain storms
in the afternoons, as rainy season is well underway. As usual at
this time of year, early mornings and around sunset, the wind will
be at its glassy best.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - All the beaches in
Northern Costa Rica should have chest to head high waves this
weekend. The new SW swell is arriving on Saturday and will be
picking up throughout the weekend. Once again, look for Avellanas,
Witch's Rock, Ollie's Point, Playa Negra, Play Grande, and Nosara to
have glassy surf in the chest to head high range. While all the
breaks should boast good waves this weekend, the direction of the
swell set to arrive on Sunday/Monday should make for great surfing,
especially at Playa Avellana, Playa Grande and Witch's Rock.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Witch's Rock Surf Camp has just added a
TV "AS BIG AS YOUR A**" behind the bar. You can now watch our home-
made surf videos while eating a ridiculous amount of nachos and
sipping on your favorite libation. Pura Vida, Travis Call - Witch's
Rock Surf Camp

** From John Lyman Photos at Pablo's Picasso with the Playa Negra
surf report:
The surf for the last few days has been on the small gutless size.
Super high tides in the mornings haven't helped. After the afternoon
rains stop there have been some nice glassoffs at some of the more
secluded spots. Great for longboards.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Looks like more of the same. We
still have the high tides in the mornings for the next few days but
not as high as the last few days. That will help to keep the waves
in the chest to headhigh range. Look for those afternoon glassoffs
as the tide will be perfect for fun surf with no crowds.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The left south of the main
peak in the mornings has been fun with the sandbar set up perfectly.
The main peak in the afternoon with the incoming tide.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Lyman is
shooting insane photos at Playa Negra. If you are coming, e-mail him
to arrange a killer photo session. lymanphoto@...

** From Harry at Coconut Harry's in Playa Guiones (Nosara) -
It's chest high in Nosara (Playa Guiones) now, but still fun. We'll
wait for your report. Take a look at this pic below -
Christian 'taking off'! Pura Vida ...... Coconut Harry

** From Samara Surf School on the Nicoya Peninsula -
There is still some swell, 4 to 5 foot waves during high tide. Nice
sunset sesh's, glassy after the rain, choppy and windy with the rain.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar
este fin de semana (clima y olas): Swell expected to back off, maybe
3 to 4 foot waves, soft peaks, great for intermediate surfers.
Perfect conditions for beginners for whitewater. Choppy conditions
with rain.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The best surfing spot in
Samara is right in front of the Las Brisas Del Pacifico hotel. No
crowds or localism, with a nice clean perfect wave.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: The conditions
in Samara are perfect for beginners right now, so if you've always
wanted to learn surfing come on down or over! Pura Vida

** From Chuck at Wow Surf Shop in Jaco -

W.O.W. surf is too nice right now , fun headhigh peaks in Jaco and
some overhead [slightly] at Hermosa , winds been favorable in
variable and not too much rain in our area , the water was super
nice out front yesterday afternoon with plenty of waves and my
morning session at Hermosa was good too if a bit lumpy but the sets
were just fine ! Dont know whats going to come by for the next
couple of days but expect some fun beachbreak surf at least ! Juan
Carlos Naranjo just got a new board delivered by Craig Cronin one of
the shapers of ERIE surfboards www.eriesurfboards.com and he's just
killing it ! Watch out for more of these guys boards and riders in
the water , its all good ! Oh speaking of good [or not] our town
just got inundated by a container of CHINA made cheap surfboards and
are even being peddled by one of our amatuer surf directors ?
Imagine that , hey if we don't sell more of the REAL SURFERS boards
then who is going to sponsor the young hot rippers ? Will MIKE
DOLSEY surf designs be an official sponsor of the Natl Circuit or
would he or his distributors ever ride one ? ? Would anybody even
ride em [maybe one]? Come on man , surf lessons on BZs is one thing
and dont ask Mike Hubbard [ BODYBOARD CHAMP] about BZs sponsorship
you would be shocked about how much they put back in to surf and
related sports[look at the rescue sleds for TOW-IN] . Lets keep our
boards surfer built and surfer sanded and surfer ridden or maybe we
better buy stock in WALMART ! LOOK OUT CARTON and BANZAII and
FISCHER BRO'S here comes the CHINA JUNK ! Anyways I dont care who
you buy your boards from but make sure they are "surfer built"
and "SOULFILLED" and let the Chinese guys make cheap bicycles and
toys and ladies underwear , no real surfer would ride one of these
anyways ! Thanks and keep the soulfire burning , Chuck and the Crew
at W.O.W. surf !
