TIDES (for Puntarenas) – Mareas ** New Moon - March 4th, Full Moon - March 19th **
High tide (Friday) – Marea alta (viernes)
6:51 a.m. @ 8.2 ft. – 250 cm.

Low tide – Marea baja
12:51 p.m. @ .4 ft. – 12 cm.

SWELL DIRECTION -- DIRECIÓN DEL SWELL

Pacific – The large swell from the Northwest should drop off a little throughout the weekend, but still provide overhead surf until Tuesday. Morning high tides make it a perfect morning offshore surf session. Smaller conditions (chest to overhead) will prevail from Thursday until the following weekend. Go to the Caribbean!Caribbean – This weekend expect rising surf: from chest high on Saturday to 2-3 feet overhead at Isla Uvita by Tuesday afternoon. Of course - Salsa or Bonita will have powerful surf as well.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

(1) From Patti at Best Western Vista Villas in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
Waves 4'- 7' at most breaks all weekend. Glassy conditions am and sunset surf sessions. Playa Negra walling up at double overhead.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
Waves continue to roll in with a mix of WSW swell. Offshores, cranking midday, but glassy conditions dawn patrol and sunset. Swell to start breaking off a little by Sunday. Lots of pacific wave movement coming up next week.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
Playa Grande - Dawn Patrol - headhigh and glassy.
Playa Langosta - am - 4' + all most sets.
Playa Negra - walling out with some double overhead sets.
Witch's Rock - 6' and clean with occassional gusty offshore winds. (Water temperature a cool 63 degrees at Oli's and Witch's)....

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
Wingnut, Robert August and Mark Martinson surfing, golfing and drinking around Tamarindo all weekend.....Look for them at the Best Western Tamarindo VistaVillas.

(2) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
The waves have been well overhead with off shores all day for almost a week now. Some set waves have been in the double overhead range. The shape has generally been fair to excellent at medium to three/quarter tides with all the peaks working and Chicken Head Rock coming on at high tide. Due to the constant off shores the water is now cold and a spring suit is not out of place.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
The wind seems to be holding and with the high tides moving into the morning for the weekend, conditions are excellant for more of the same excellent surf we've been having. Bring a wet suit - vest or spring especially for Witches or Ollies.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
All the breaks are working with Chicken Head as good as it gets at high tide. Tamarindo River mouth is worth checking at incoming. Avoid Witches and Ollies while the wind is howling.

(3) From Steve at Tropico Latinos in Santa Teresa (near Mal Pais):
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS & CONDITIONS:

The NW swell - which has brought us the best waves of the year, 12' faces, barrels, long walls etc.- has now started to drop a bit. However sets this morning were still well overhead and coming in at short intervals. Conditions have been superclean with afternoon offshores.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:

Would expect the swell to continue to drop slowly - there should still be head high surf and expect the perfect winds to continue.

BEST PLACE TO SURF NEAR YOU THIS WEEKEND:

Playa Carmen has been epic on this swell - with the high tide moving into the morning, it should be the best spot at the weekend.

(4) From Kristian at Witches Rock - (Sunday - Feb. 20th)
The water was about 70 degrees. The winds are off shore at both points but very strong, for the waves. The waves were between 2ft to 3ft at potrero with sets of 4 waves every 15 minutes. At witch´s the waves was the same but the sets took forever, and the water there was much colder. Not a cloud in the sky.

JACO & HERMOSA
(5) From Tommy at Hotel Fuego del Sol in Hermosa -
We have a southwest swell running about Six feet on Hermosa beaches. Low tide is at around noon today. The tide has mellowed out and it looks like another great day in Costa Rica. More Pictures of the beaches with our crew at: www.fuegodelsol.com/page3.html

** New Moon - February 5th, Full Moon - Febraury 19 **

High tide (Friday) – Marea alta (viernes)
12:53 p.m. @ 8.1 ft. – 247 cm.

Low tide – Marea baja
6:32 a.m. @ .5 ft. – 15 cm.

SWELL DIRECTION -- DIRECIÓN DEL SWELL

Pacific – I stick with my call last week "and by the weekend a stronger push from a larger NW swell (I'd go to Ollie's or Matapalo on the 22nd!)" North Nicoya is the spot this next week, from Negra north it should be offshore and perfect - easily overhead by MondayCaribbean – The "east-side" is a toss up this week. One day, it could be overhead, the next flat. I would hang out in Cahuita until something starts to show, and then to Salsa or Bonita.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

(1) From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
We just had a week of perfect small surf. Shoulder to head high with
offshore winds and mysto shape. The day before yesterday, the swell came up and was well overhead on the bigger sets, and was perfect with offshores all morning in 4-6 hour sessions due to the mellow tides. The swell is now dropping slightly, but maintaning perfect shape with light crowds.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
With the good sand and offshores, expect good surf if there is a swell and the wind stays typically offshore in the afternoon.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
All the spots have been working except Tamarindo Rivermouth.

JACO & HERMOSA

(2) From Chuck at Chosita del Surf in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
small (swell dropped off)1-3' ft, morning tend to be
glassy! with onshore / sideshore winds kicking around late morning!!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves):
sunny, with small surf!! it's not looking to big!!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
Tulin is good early morning, until tides too high!! then try Jaco's beach break in the afternoon!

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
Randy Weir from Revelation Surfboards came by with a new batch of Ventura born and proven hot shapes ! Come on by and check em out ! Thanks Chuck !

(3) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol Hotel in Hermosa -
We have small conditions along Hermosa beaches today.
We seem to be getting a building swell; but, we will see. The high tide is around noon time, Pura Vida!!! Check the video at www.fuegodelsol.com/page3.html

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO

(4) From Alacran Tours in Manuel Antonio – NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:
TORNEO DE SURF PLAYITAS, 2000
18,19, 20 DE FEBRERO
PLAYITAS, MANUEL ANTONIO

(5) From David at Escuela D'Amore en Manuel Antonio -

Pura Vida!!

TIDES (for Puntarenas) – Mareas

** New Moon - February 5th, Full Moon - Febraury 19

**High tide (Friday) – Marea alta (viernes)6:40 a.m. @ 8.3 ft. – 253 cm.

Low tide – Marea baja 12:41 p.m. @ .3 ft. – 9 cm.

SWELL DIRECTION -- DIRECIÓN DEL SWELL

Pacific – The WSW swell that was showing on this coast will diminish through the weekend, but you can enjoy the morning high tides and offshore winds with surf in the chest with overhead sets range. Then by next Wednesday see the first push from the SW swell and by the weekend a stronger push from a larger NW swell (I'd go to Ollie's or Matapalo on the 22nd!)

Caribbean – THIS IS THE TIME OF THE YEAR TO SURF HERE! It is at least chest high everywhere and will continue for the week. Unfortunately, this could be it, as the swell drops here as quickly as it develops. Isla Uvita is the call this time.

(5) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol Hotel in Hermosa -
It's absolutly going off here today!!!!! We just got what seems to be a medium to large southwest but it's got a weird mix in it. There are some six footers rolling in so, we are stoked. It's been flat for a few days and no one really was expecting to see much today. It's still glassy out there so, get out and get some. We have sunny skies so, get on the block. The water is calm there is only a light breeze coming from the south so, enjoy. We have our crew out back all morniing getting major barrels. Check the video at www.fuegodelsol.com/page3.html

QUEPOS & MANUEL ANTONIO

(6) From Alacran Tours in Manuel Antonio – AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
Last weekend, the Alacran crew took a trip up to Esterillos and were blessed
with overhead + sets all morning...only ones in the water. Slight onshore
winds, however not really affecting the surf. Morning sessions at Playitas
and Bajos have been glassy and afternoon sessions this week have been fairly
choppy (a lot of backwash)

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND
If things stay as they have been, we are expecting sunny skies with
scattered clouds in the early afternoon. With no swell showing, we are
expecting a slow weekend of surf around here (waist high +)

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA:
The best place to go this weekend will be Playitas or Bajos at incoming tide
2 hrs before. For bigger waves, head to one of the more exposed beach
breaks in the nearby area (El Rey or Esterillos).

Pacific – A fairly strong NW is developing this weekend around El Salvador and should push nice surf to the West and NW facing beaches. It should amplify any remnants of a swell from Argentina, bring bigger afternoon conditions.
