High Tide - 8.26 ft at 5:53 AM
Low Tide - .56 ft at 11:56 AM
NATIONAL FORECAST
Pacific - This week is consistent with surf chest high, with head high
sets. A
little bigger around Grande and Tulin, and smaller in T-Bay. High tide
in the
a.m. makes all the beach breaks look good 2 hours before to about 30
minutes
before peak high, when things mush out. The swell direction is a mixto,
nothing
big coming from either direction for another 10 days at least.
Caribbean - GO NOW !!!! Surf is overhead at Black Beach and Cocles,
with waves
3+ overhead at Salsa and la isla! Watch out for flooded roads. Swell
sticks
around all week, with more to come for next weekend's National Circuit
Contest.

still
pushing through on the bigger sets.

Another great week of surf in Tamarindo. The weekend saw all breaks

beautiful

estaban
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -
Well as everyone knows, the NW swell picked up Fri afternoon and

Swell has slowly dropped off to shoulder-head high sets as of today
(Wed.,7
pm).
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -

some
bigger sets if we're lucky. Our next swell is going to be a South this
time,
the charts are seeming to tell us Mon-Tue of next week. Thats when you
want to
be at OLLIES...

High Tide - 7.85 ft at 1:25 PM
NATIONAL FORECAST
Pacific - NW swell direction is still sending chest high surf to the
main
beachbreaks. It will stay like this until Sunday, when it gets about a
foot
bigger with a period of 13-14 seconds. By Monday expect sets in the
foot
overhead range with a 11-12 second period. Tuesday it will drop back a
foot but
the sets come in more frequently, and by Wed. p.m. a SSW swell pushes
up sets
that fill in the gaps and set up some nice peaky surf and a two session
day
with high tides in the a.m. and p.m.
Caribbean - Swell is hitting head high to overhead sets with some
bigger bombs
dropping around hot spots like Salsa and Isla Uvita. Waves should drop
by
Sunday back to chest high and stay fun like that until Tuesday when it
picks up
another foot again. So basically great surf all week.

1) From Carrie at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande-
The swell that brought Playa Grande beautiful chest to head high waves
for most

officially
offshore and here to stay, the swell was clean all week, but today was
TINY!
The sand is right, and let's just hope another swell rolls in because
everything is working!
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

it should be a great weekend!

2) From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
It appears that summer is here for real now, the off-shores having
unleashed
this past weekend and continuing day and night. We've had really nice
surf in
Tamarindo this week--something for everyone: nice 3-4 foot in front of
the
hotel, 4-5 at Pico Pequeno and Langosta. A very nice right is still
working at
Henry's Point but study the rocks at low tide first! Parece que el

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

3) From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp out of Playa del Coco and
Tamarindo:
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS -
Currently Witch's isn't doing too much, staying in about the waist to
chest
high area. Last Saturday's NW swell never really materialized, and this
week
we're still waiting...Lately we have been seeing some REALLY strong
offshore
winds which are making it difficult to get in the waves. If the surf
picks up,
conditions are perfect- its just that right now its not big enough for
how
windy it is.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) -
From what the charts are saying, tomorrow (fri jan.11) should start to
build a
nice WNW swell towards the shoulder/head high range by late afternoon,
which
will definately be nice. Looks like Saturday will be the best, at about
head
high. Some creeper sets coming through a little overhead if we're
lucky...Sunday will see the start of a new SW swell the same direction
as our
EPIC OLLIES SWELL from last month. The sand bar is just right, Sunday
could see
all-time surf if the swell materializes.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA -
Witch's Rock is the best call. Ollie's on Sunday if this south ever
shows up.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-
You can now buy your own Witch's Rock Surf Camp official t-shirt at

4) From Steve at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa (Mal Pais):
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
First significant W swell of the summer with classic conditions at the
beachbreaks from mon to Wed. Swell has dropped back into shoulder to
head high
range this morning with the occasional set still lurking around.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:
Swell should continue to drop over the next couple of days but may feel

6) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -
The waves are still showing size, but there are not as many sets,
today.
Esterillos should be really clean this morning for the in-coming tide.
Then
later, for dead high tide (1:10PM), Hermosa will not be closing out so
bad Jaco
is a good call as well, and there are still overhead sets with very
light wind.
The waves will be fun again for the in-coming tide this afternoon.

4-5 a
Pico Pequeno y Langosta.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

Expect hard off-shore wind and cooler water. The swell seems to be
dropping, so
the surf will be small this weekend. Espere vientos fuertes off-shore y

Ollie's on Sunday if this south ever
shows up.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-
You can now buy your own Witch's Rock Surf Camp official t-shirt at
both WRSC
locations. If you don't live in Costa Rica, and would like to have one
mailed
to you, email WRSC at witchsrock@hotmail.com for info.
Swell should continue to drop over the next couple of days but may feel
the
effects of another before the weekend is out.
BEST PLACE TO SURF IN YOUR AREA:
Sta Teresa a.m., Carmen p.m..
5) From John at Pura Vida Surf Camp in Playa Grande:
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
Waves have been fun in the chest to head high range all week!
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de

Look out for a big bomb swell hitting this weekend from the NW.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:

Super fun spot, but bring
a book cause there isn't much going on. It's like a time warp to the

JACO & HERMOSA
6) From Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -
The waves are still showing size, but there are not as many sets,
today.
Esterillos should be really clean this morning for the in-coming tide.
Then
later, for dead high tide (1:10PM), Hermosa will not be closing out so
bad Jaco
is a good call as well, and there are still overhead sets with very
light wind.
The waves will be fun again for the in-coming tide this afternoon.

AREA REPORTS
NICOYA (N)
1) From Carrie at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (Welcome back!!)
Today saw chest to head high waves and a calm to slightly offshore wind
at
Playa Grande. An hour or so after
high tide saw some nice waves with the crowd dissipating a bit. The
Christmas
crowds are definitely in full effect, but at Grande you can always find
either
a brief window or a relatively unmolested peak, if you're diligent.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):
With high tide moving further and further into the afternoon, we'll be
at the
mercy of the wind. The weather is typical for this particular time of
year with
the sky crying for baby Jesus, as the local expression go. So we're
left with
lots of clowds, some sprinkles, and a fickle wind. But this time of
year, it
can always all come together for a great session, so stay on it!
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear

fin de semana en su area:
Grande will have some decent size waves, similar to what we've had all
week,
with chest to head high, to maybe a bit overhead on the sets. Pray for
the
right wind and a partied-out crowd!!
2) From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
We've seen typical Tamarindo 3-4 foot waves this week between Pico
Pequeno and
the rivermouth. Langosta is breaking on the outside in the mornings,
but
somewhat sluggishly. Unseasonable on-shore winds accompany these cloudy
days
and have blown out our midday high tides. Hemos visto olas tipicas de
Tamarindo
aplastado
las mareas altas de mediodia.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de
semana (clima y olas):
If and when the predicted swell arrives, we should see the surf grow a
few
feet, but the main variable right now is whether or not we get our
summer winds
back for the weekend.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear

fin de semana en su area:
Look for low or mid tide breaks where you can surf in the morning
before it
gets blown out. Langosta rivermouth or beach break will probably be the
best
rides in town.
3) From Steve at Tropico Latino Lodge in Mal Pais -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS & CONDITIONS:
Surf finally appeared this morning after a lousy month. Swell has been
building
this a.m. and it is 4' on sets SW and super clean at 1 p.m.

much bigger.

Pacific - Nice weekend with mid morning high tides and surf
in the head high range at southern beachbreaks. On the
Nicoya, waist to chest high with an occasional bigger set.
Summer offshore winds are here, and the next swell will
glance off the Guanacaste breaks, pushing them up to head

and the whole coast mellows out to chest high fun surf
until the weekend.
Caribbean - Swell from the NE drops off for the weekend,
down to chest high by Sunday and stays that way until
Tuesday when it drops another foot. Beautiful weather and
blue water make for a great session.

AREA REPORTS
NICOYA (N)
1) From Carrie at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande
(Welcome back!!)
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y
condiciones:
The last few days have been chest high with fair conditions
and the offshores blowing consistently all day. Yesterday
and this morning saw the weakest swell of the week with
head high waves at best at the main peak of Grande with
smaller waves to the north and south. This morning was
small, with the main peak of Grande the
only spot up and down the beach offering the occasional
decent wave. The tides have been offering double sessions,
with early morning and afternoon go-outs. This afternoon's
session saw perhaps the first signs of a new swell; the
waves were solid head high on the sets, and the shape was
excellent, hollow and peeling, with the offshores blowing
with particular force at dusk. The crowd was obnoxious,
however.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a
pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The word on the
street is that a new SW swell is arriving and we've seen
it's first impressions this evening. If so, then this
weekend should be great, with a decent swell and plenty of
offshores, as well as propitious tides for two lengthy
doublesessions.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor

area:
The main peak at Grande and the next peak to the north have
been catching this week's swell the best, and it looks like
more of the same for the weekend. Beware of the wolf pack,
however!!
2) From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y
condiciones:
No sign of the much-talked-about swell. The winds have been
a bit shifty, but mostly off-shore on waves an average of
waist high. Langosta broke a bit bigger as always. Really
high high tides made the estuaries a hefty paddle.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a
This weekend I expect Tamarindo to continue with small
waves and favorable winds. Este fin de semana espero que
Tamarindo seguira con olas pequenas y vientos favorables.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor

This weekend would be a great time to surf Playa Grande,
Langosta at sunrise on the incoming tide, points on either
end of Avellanas or anywhere that has a fun little break on
a small swell.
pequena.

with particular force at dusk.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor
area:
This weekend would be a great time to surf Playa Grande,
Langosta at sunrise on the incoming tide, points on either
end of Avellanas or anywhere that has a fun little break on
a small swell.
pequena.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:

The waves have been running head high to a few feet

Unfortunately, the wind hasn't been in sync with the tides
at Playa Grande, with the onshores coming on by the time
the tide gets right. However, early morning incoming tide
sessions at the Tamarindo Rivermouth seemed to have been
the call, with the winds still light offshore and the swell
hitting well overhead on the sets, especially earlier in
the week. The swell definitetly seemed to die off today and
the wind was onshore as early as 9 am in Playa Grande.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a

With the weather starting to clear and the sun returning
after the early week doldrums, let's hope that the
offshores start kicking in as the dry season starts hitting

AREA REPORTS
NICOYA (N)
1) From Diana at Robert August Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y
condiciones:
Summer mornings and winter afternoons have made for small
off-shore sessions early in the day if you like to
longboard. Waves are tiny: maybe waist or chest high if
you're lucky.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a
More of the same! The afternoon low tides mean that in
Tamarindo the time to surf is morning. If we get rainy
mornings this weekend, fix your board or learn to sew...
aprenda cocer...
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor
My fingers are crossed for Langosta, an incoming mid-tide
break that should be prime although small) for dawn patrol.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:
Two Halloween parties this week! Begin at Best Western's
Monkey Bar at sunset and continue to Pasatiempo's anual
bash.
2) From Steve at Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
Lots of rain this week; however weather has been improving
since yesterday evening though surf is still untidy with
early onshores. Not much swell around either with sets a
mushy chest high.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:
Not much swell, but hopefully cleaner conditions.
BEST PLACE TO SURF:
Playa Carmen usually works best in small conditions on the
incoming tide; pack a longboard.
JACO & HERMOSA
3)Tommy at Fuego del Sol in Playa Hermosa -
The waves are smaller today, but glassy with no wind.
Corners is probably the best bet to find a head high wave.
High tide is around 11:30AM. Hopefully soon we will be
seeing some more swell. Our in house pros are Dennis
Christopher and Tobit McLean. They are doing their Endless
Summer Surf Clinics so, call Tobit for details and info 506
