AREA REPORTS (sent in on 5/12 or posted)

** From Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -(5/10)

The swell has finally dropped. Since we've had early morning and late afternoon high tides, the beach breaks have been best with waist to chest high surf at best. Yesterday (Wednesday) the swell picked up slightly but today its back down again. The wind has been nice in the mornings, even blowing offshore and opening up clean little barrels. Marbella through Negra has seen the most swell. Tamarindo has been pretty small but still fun. The forecast for the next few days is that the surf stays exactly the same size, so early morning and late afternoon surf sessions will be best until the offshore winds start picking up again. aloha..

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The waves have been in the fun head high range for the last couple days. Glassy sunny mornings with onshore winds coming up early. High clouds in the afternoons with rain showers in the early evenings.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Expect more of the same. Fun head high surf with glassy conditions.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: It will be medium tide going high for these next few mornings so that will be the best time for Playa Negra. Get there early and beat the crowd and onshore wind.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Check out the surf at Playa Negra today. www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (5/13)

Small fun surf this morning... waves in the waist to chest range with some fun sets pushing through, clean conditions...

Gabe Kling surfs against Kelly Slater in the Billabong Chopes contest today... Go Gabe!!!

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: The waves are small but peaky...shoulder to head high. To small for high tide but they seem to be working at mid-tide. I've not been out in about 5 days but it looks like fun from the beach. There is rumor of a red tide, I was feeling sick, so I've stayed out of the water. I'm not sure how to know if a red tide is happening or not so I can't really confirm this.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): It might get a bump on Sunday but it looks pretty much like the same waves for a week or so.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Anyplace but the point should be working. I'm not sure how big a red tide is and how far you have to travel to avoid it.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Surf headhigh to overhead at the best spots up north, and a foot bigger farther south. Swell from the SSW fades on Tuesday, waves down to chest high in the Guanacaste area. Wednesday and Thursday have some overhead surf from the Southern Pacific from a short period swell, but doesn't last to the weekend. More chest to head high surf with an occasional overhead set with the tidal push. Smaller up north. The next BIG swell won't arrive until the 20th, so get your work done now.

Caribbean - Dropping swell - down from chest high Monday morning to waist high by the evening. Stays waist high all week, with a rare bigger set in the hours just before high tide. Weak swell to push in Thursday evening, but only bringing a few more chest high sets.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 5/5 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Sloppy, fairly large, surf.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): We will need some rain and off shores in the afternoon to straighten this up. The early morning high tides starting on Monday look promising for over head conditions and maybe a smooth ocean.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Anywhere on the north end of the bay.

** From Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

With my crappy dial up internet I log in and give you all this report. In a nutshell, there is still a ton of swell. You'll find very fun waves at Playa Grande, Casitas, Tamarindo, Langosta, Avellanas, Negra, Junquial, and Marbella. Thats a lot of options, so hopefully you're reading this and setting your alarm clock instead of raging at the Mambo Bar or whatever.

Saturday Cinco de May was the peak of the swell. Little Hawaii was a spot to be, just ask Matt the restaurant manager who was getting shacked there all morning before huevos rancheros at mono congo. I surfed the Rivermouth here in Avellanas and it sucked, so don't bother surfing it during this swell. Its too west. Or north. Or south. Whatever, it sucked. In the afternoon I surfed the reefs in front of the parking lot and it was fun, but not epic.

Sunday, I surfed Negra in the pm. It was fun, still plenty of size with the head high set coming in very often. The wind hasn't been laying down much so theres a bit of chop until the last hour of light.

Monday, I'm expecting the surf to be about the same size. You'll find waves everywhere you go, so if you get on it early and start at Grande and work your way south, you'll score some waves somewhere (probably Grande). If you're surfing down south I'll see you there. Get out early before the wind kills it.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Playa Negra had some fun headhigh waves with light onshores all day. With only a few people around under partly cloudy skies, the locals got it all today. Look for bigger surf this weekend as a new SW pushes in with well overhead waves with good to great shape. Glassy or light offshores in the mornings and onshore in the afternoons with a chance of some rain later in the day.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:
Killer surfing photos of Playa Negra at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Steve at Coconut Harrys Surf Shop in Playa Guiones -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Waves have been fun all week. Chest to overhead on the sets with some power. Some really good late morning early afternoon sessions. Sometimes a little onshore wind is not such a bad thing especially for the late sleepers or people that have jobs...Waves now are 3-5 ft with power but a little sloppy with all the storms we've had the past couple of days. There are quite a few close-outs but the occasional nice set will come in and hold the section.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): We're expecting 3-5 ft for the weekend and decreasing some during the week. Hopefully the swell will clean up a bit on the way down.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: I've heard some great things about Camaronal the last week. I sent some clients on a surf/fish trip there on Tuesday and they caught 6-8 ft clean waves with power and tubes. They also caught 4 fish on the way back including a nice yellowtail and a 50lb Rooster. Not a bad trip. Needless to say they were pretty stoked when they got back. Too bad I did not go with them..

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:
We've had lights the past couple of nights. I hear with the increase in rain we've had the power situation is looking better. I just wish Direct T.V. had the NBA playoffs so I coould make good use of the electricity.. Adios for now..

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: SOME FUN IF INTERESTING WAVES TONITE HERE, AROUND 4-6 FT FACES WITH A BIG ONE HERE AND THERE , A BIT CLOSED OUT BUT GOT A COUPLE OF DECENT WAVES OUT THERE ! Rains stayed in the mountains so we missed out on offshores but I think tomorrow will be the session ! See Ya there !

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: Incredibly nice waves!!! They are almost all head high to slightly overhead with occasional head-and-a-half slammers coming through. Very peaky form creating lots of shoulders. Often two waves from two angles collide giving either a perfect peak (if convex) or one of those traps that send a tunnel from the wrong direction right at your ride (if concave). In any case, I've been doubling up on my sessions. I can't get enough of it.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): Looks like the size should hold through Sunday/Monday and we should be down to a smaller wave by Tuesday. The tide is perfect for double sessions!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: The beach is working for strong surfers but is a bit much for occasional/beginner surfers. The point is working but just barely. Only the big sets break on the boil and these sets are only coming in every 15 minutes or so. I would think Hermosa would be a good choice for an easier ride than the beach but I haven't been there to check it out.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The combo NW swinging around to WSW swell pegs the coasts with surf a foot overhead for Monday and Tuesday, fading to overhead Wednesday and Thursday. Check out the reefs and point since low tide is early morning, and the wind is switching onshore due to the rainy season kicking in. Friday the first 2-3 foot overhead sets file in from a SSSW swell brewing by Peru. Saturday it strikes - 1-2 foot overhead surf for the south, overhead surf up north - sticking around through at least Thursday of the following week since it's backed by another fetch from the SW.

Caribbean - Wake up Monday to clean chest high surf with a few sneaker head high sets. The sets fade out by Tuesday afternoon, leaving waist to chest surf Wednesday. Waist to stomach high for Thursday and Friday and Saturday it's back to chest high from another East swell.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 4/29 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The off shores and steady swell combined this week for great surf in the perfect, just overhead, Playa Grande range. There are mackers working very well in the one and a half to double overhead size here and there. The sand has been shifting lately and is curently less than perfect.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The new swell is a little raw and tricky. If the wind holds into the afternoon it should be well overhead and good.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The whole bay is lighting up with good reports from Tamarindo . The rock at the north end of the bay has been perfect for long boarders.

** From Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (4/29)

My face is so sunburned that it feels like its about to peel off. Translation: surf is firing. Yesterday the swell hit as expected, and we are blessed with raging offshore winds that are making waves absolutely perfect. When I was walking down to the rivermouth here in Avellanas I thought it was already blown out, but instead was offshore and perfect. Then the tide filled in and Palo Seco was throwing out little barrels and clean, fast lefts and rights. The wind switched about 1230pm so we took off for Tamarindo to eat.
The surf in front of the camp was even bigger than Avellanas and even better, with hollow barrels everywhere as the wind was again howling offshore. Its a west swell and just firing. I was driving by Pico Grande with Rich and caught a perfect barreling wave breaking across the bay. I looked at Rich to point it out, saying "holy crap what a nice wave" and then some guy pulls out of the barrel! I couldn't believe it, that guy must have had a two second tube ride. As I sat at the camp totally sunburned and unable to paddle back out the surf was just going off all afternoon.
This morning I checked it at about 8am and its even bigger. The wind is howling offshore. I'm burned but can't help myself, its better than its been for a few weeks. Get out there and get some of these waves!

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:The last couple days have been great. Head high with light offshores and the swell direction is perfect for Playa Negra. Lucky for those who got up early. Look for smaller surf for the next few days. With mid tide going high happening early for the next few days, the early bird might get the waves.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:
Killer surfing photos of Playa Negra at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Steve at Coconut Harrys Surf Shop in Playa Guiones - (4/28)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The waves have been 2-4 ft with overhead sets. It's been real fun in the mornings before 10:00 a.m when the wind usually turns. The evenings have been glassing off for some pura vida sunset surf sessions.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): This weekend we should see the waves building today and peaking tomorrow to the 5-6 ft range. The swell is coming off the coast of South America and should give Playa Guiones some juice over the next couple of days. We hope!!
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Most of the main breaks in the area ( Guiones, Camaronal, Marbella , andOstional) will benefit from this swell.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales:
There is a big end of the high season party tonight at the Tierra Magnifica on the hills of Playa Nosara. The whole town should be there so if your in the area and need directions stop at Coconut Harry's and ask for Steve. Adios for now...

** From Devad at Devad Productions Photography in Playa Hermosa - (4/29)

UP IN SIZE AND POWER FROM YESTERDAY. STRONGER S/W ,LONG UNDULATED AND BUMPED UP MORNING SICKNESS. STILL GOOD SECTIONS TO BE HAD UNTIL THE ARRIVAL OF AN EARLY ONSHORE BREEZE. CHEST,HEAD AND + SETS. INTERNET FORECAST- SHOULD BE UP ANOTHER LEVEL OF SIZE AND POWER SUNDAY, 4-6 FT S/W + SETS. DO IT EARLY FOR BEST CONDITIONS

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical - (4/29)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Shoulder high and peaky. Better at mid-tide. They are coming from the far south so the shape is good.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): By Tuesday we should have some overhead waves of the same basic characteristics.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: It looks like the best rides are being picked up in front of Coco's. However, it could be one of those "grass is greener" thingys as I'm always up by the river mouth.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Get on it early since the swell is leaving town. Dropping down to chest high by Wednesday, with the only head high to overhead sets showing south of Jaco. GET UP for some KIND DAWN PATROLS! More of it Thursday and Friday, but on Saturday afternoon a combo WNW and SSW arrive to push the surf up to overhead. Nothing amazing, consistent overhead surf through Monday before it fades for another week.

Caribbean - East North East winds are creating waves waist to chest high on Tuesday, and growing two feet Wednesday to head high, with occasional overhead sets. Thursday and Friday look the same, dropping down Saturday back to chest high+ and sticking around Sunday with a longer wait between the sets.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 4/21 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The overhead conditions are dropping down to just overhead. The daybreak sessions are glassy and good, and the afternoon sessions are fun and a little blown out.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Daybreak is the call for good head high, well formed, surf.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Anywhere in the bay that has peaks with the main focus at the main peak just south of the hotel.

** From Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (4/23)

The swell has dropped, but its still in the chest to head high range. The wind has been funky though, offshore in the mornings and fun, but blowing onshore early. Today it actually went back offshore, it seems like a new system is blowing through.
Saturday a group of us drove in to Witch's Rock. It was shoulder to head high, the sandbars were really nice and working well despite the onshore winds that didn't let up until it was almost dark.
The swell models show that it should continue to drop slightly throughout this week until Thursday/Friday when it starts to increase. This next weekend should have fun waves, hopefully with a new weather system that has some more offshores. This wind is getting on my nerves.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The waves have been in the headhigh range now as this last swell was just too south for Playa Negra. Skies are sunny and it is hot during the day.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Expect even smaller surf for the beginning of this upcoming week. Look for continued hot and sunny for the first half of this week. A new SW 220 swell moves into our area by Wednesday with headhigh and overhead waves. High tide runs through the mornings this week.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: With that high tide in the mornings, Playa Negra will be the place to be.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Small surf to start the week, chest to head high at the southern beachbreaks, a foot smaller up north. Picking up a foot Wednesday, and then Thursday bumping up to 1-2 foot overhead from a sizable SSW swell set to hit midday. Friday it maxes at 2-3 foot overhead at top spots, a foot overhead at the point breaks. By Saturday it fades a foot by sundown and shrinks to overhead Sunday and chest to head high next Monday.

Caribbean - The swell season for the Caribbean is fading fast as the waves drop down to waist high with a few chest high sets each hour for Monday. By Tuesday, waist high at best. Wednesday will be waist to chest from a small NNE swell. By Friday it's down to knee to waist high, with a rare long period chest high set. Saturday, just knee high.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 4/14 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The dropping swell and light off shores have brought some good head high conditions for the last few days. The wind has been switching just before high tide leaving out going a little sloppy.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): These conditions are perfect for Playa Grande, however the wind will become more of an issue as we move into afternoon high tides.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: It's pretty much focusing in out front and the crowds have been light and spread out.

** From Keith at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (4/11)

Today we went to witch's rock and ollie's point. The wind was never perfect, but both places were very fun anyway. the waves were amywhere from chest high to a decent amount overhead. very fun stuff. I also heard that playa negra was very fun, with overhead barrels.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The waves have been small with waisthigh to the occasional shoulder high set. Partly cloudy skies with a bit of rain here and there.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Expect more small surf with the bit of a NW bump in the beginning of the week. More rain as we head into the rainy season.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: With the extreme low tides running through the mornings this week, take the longboard and head to Avellanas.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: You can see what the surf looks like right now at Playa Negra. www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Jesse at the Samara Surf School -

Good surf in playa samara these days.. perfect for intermediate to advanced.. Great chance to surf bigger waves with an easy paddle out....

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: The waves have sized down after the great swell we had. We now have shoulder high, peaky waves that are great at everything but dead low tide.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves): The weather appears to be full-on rainy season, but this often happens for a month or so before we get the on-again-off-again rains of June and July. The waves look like there going to lie low until Wednesday. Then it looks as if there might be our first swell from the south.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA: Anywhere from Roca Verde to the river mouth. Small waves don't seem to work to well north of the river.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 4/7 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Big and semi out of control. This morning, Saturday, the swell relaxed and the wind cooperated for dawn patrol and some good large surf. Anything bigger than overhead and a half is a little much for Playa Grande unless the swell direction and wind are perfect.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Some excellent waves out front andTamarindo Estero looks good. The off shores are lasting a little longer for good surf until it gets too big again.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Tuck into the bay toward Tamarindo as the swell increases.

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The main word to describe the Tamarindo conditions this week is "crowded." The beach is packed if not with surfers. There are waves for sure--nice chest high rollers when the wind is off shore. La palabra clave para describir las condiciones de la playa in Tamarindo este semana es "muchedumbre." La playa esta llenisima aun si no de surfistas. Hay olas--lindas olas de a la cintura cuando el viento esta off shore.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The surf will continue through the weekend and so will the crowd. Looks like a swell coming in next week so don't dispair. Las olas seguiran todo el fin de semana pero tambien la muchedumbre. Parece que viene otro swell la semana proxima asi que no vaya en depresion.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: If you know a secret spot, go there but don't tell anyone! Si conoces un lugar secreto vaya sin decirle a nadie.

** From Keith at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (4/6)

Today, the surf school went to la finca. the waves were solid, with the sets a couple feet overhead. it was an adventure for the few students who tried for those sets, as you can see in the photo.

the smaller waves were more manageable at wasit to chest high. it was pretty clean overall, but a little bit closed out.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf here at Playa Negra has been good with overhead and bigger sets. Offshore wind in the mornings and onshore sea breeze in the afternoons. Plenty of people to keep you company here this week.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The waves will stay in the headhigh range until the beginning of the week when a major swell event happens for most of Costa Rica . Look for Playa Negra to be 3 to 4 times overhead and probably too big and too walled to surf. The SSW swell will be a little too south for any of the breaks around here.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: With the big waves arriving on Monday, check out Playa Negra and if it's too big go to Little Hawaii . It might be the hot tip with the medium tide in the morning.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: To see the big surf at Playa Negra today and eveyday, check out www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com

** From Erik at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones - (4/4)

Good big surf again today... Surf running solid overhead, with bomb sets. I got some real good ones early, and then the tide started backing off, and it started shutting down. This whole swell has been pretty hollow for guiones... saw a few good barrles this morning... OK, a word of note today... it is super annoying when you are in position and for-sure going to catch a wave, and you call someone off, on the shoulder and they keep paddling, and mush your barrel... Andrew pushed a dropper-inner off his wave yesterday, it was great.

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -

WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND , LOTS OF 3/5 FT FACES WITH SOME BIG STUFF ON THE WAY , SOME WIND AND SOME GLASS TOO¡ TOURISTS GALOR AND NOT TOO MANY PROBLEMS, POLICE OUT IN FORCE AND LIFEGAUARDS ON JETSKIES WITH RESCUE SLEDS DONATED BY OUR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS . Chuck Herwig owner/surfer, "RIDING THE JACO WAVE " Since 1988

** From Andrea at Waves CR Surf Camp in Playa Hermosa -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Dropped down a little bit compare to the first days of this week...overcast -tipical winter conditions, already.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Fun glasssy waves, till the swell picks up again next week. Looks like Early winter this year.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Hermosa-Fuego del Sol - terrazas.

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Get the guns out! Not for this week, although starting Monday surf will be 1-2 foot overhead, with sets every 30 minutes. Tuesday the sets come in bigger at 2-4 foot overhead every 20 minutes, Wednesday is the same way. Thursday the swell drops a foot, and Friday it's down to a foot overhead. This is all from the SSW so it's 1-2 feet smaller if the beach doesn't face south. Saturday and Sunday have overhead surf and then Monday a whammy of a SSW arrives, pushing surf back up to 2-3 foot overhead with BIGGER sets for next Tuesday and Wednesday. Disfrutelo!

Caribbean - Surf is head high with a few overhead sets each hour. Will pick up to 2-4 foot overhead on Monday, with more consistency on Tuesday. Wednesday it starts to drop, but there still be a lot of 1-2 foot overhead waves to be caught. By Thursday though, the swell disappears leaving surf chest high with some head high sets. Friday and Saturday are a foot smaller.

AREA REPORTS (sent in on 3/31 or posted)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Although we have a nice little swell running, the wind is switching early and blowing out the afternoon high tides. The wave saturated crowds from the beginning of the week are not showing up. The Florida surfers are saying it's just like home and having a great time.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Sloppy

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The main peak to the south of the hotel is the focus of this swell.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf has been in the fun zone with shoulder to headhigh sets. The strong offshore wind has given way to no wind glassy mornings and onshore breezes in the afternoons.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Look for the waves to pick way up out of the SW with overhead surf this weekend and up to double overhead for the first part of the week. Sunny and warm mornings and cloudy afternoons as the rainy season is just around the corner.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: As the swell increases, Playa Negra will be the biggest and less crowded during this swell. Low tide runs through the mornings this week so bring your reef walkers.

Maybe one of the best days that I have seen at Guiones, and a top ten day overall today! Surf up to double overhead and grinding at low tide. Barrels and Broken Boards... Matt from Soul Arch shot real early today, and it got bigger throughout the morning. Wind switched at 10. It was somewhat funny today, as it didn't look real solid early and the lineup was crowded... then some sets started pushing in, and by 9 it was just the usuals out. Folks don't like good waves.

** From Chuck at Walking on Water Surf Shop in Jaco -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: We got surf ¡ Its not real big but its going to be fun for the ETERNAL CROWN contest put on by Christian Surfers out front today.
